Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Series 2016 Background On the weekend of June 11th/12th 2016, Leeds will host a leg of the World Triathlon Series. The main event will be on Sunday 12th which will consist of an amateur/mass participation event (3 distances) in the morning and then Elite Women and Elite Men in the afternoon. On Saturday 11th a “GoTri” event will be centred in and around Roundhay Park The route has now been confirmed/ratified by the International Triathlon Union and so planning has moved forward and announcements are being made. Saturday – Overview Activities mainly contained in Roundhay Park, but with a cycle route on the highway. Only Princes Avenue & Park Avenue will directly impacted by this. It is hoped to attract in the region of 3,000 participants to this event. The Saturday event is part of a wider development over the year as part of the aspiration to become a ‘triathlon city’ Sunday – Overview The event will be start in Roundhay Park (swim) and finish in the City Centre (cycle and run), with the route between shown on the attached maps. In the morning there will be three Mass Participation events (Olympic/Sprint/Beginner distances) for approximately 5,500 athletes. In the afternoon there will be the women’s and then men’s Elite events. The elite events will have 75 competitors in each. The elite events will be shown live on BBC2. Road Closure times: On Saturday 11th June, there will be community events in Roundhay Park. This will

necessitate the closure of Princes Ave between 5am and 3pm. Old Park Road will have traffic management and restricted on- street parking. Park Avenue and West Avenue may also experience disruption.

The main event starts with the amateurs who will set off in small groups (‘waves’) into Roundhay Park Waterloo Lake from approximately 7.00am on Sunday 12th June. These waves will continue at regular intervals until around 12 noon. The female elite athletes will set off at 1pm with the men following at 3.45pm; with the whole event finishing in Millennium Square at approximately 5.30pm.

Roundhay Park: Princes Avenue closed to through traffic from 5am to 3pm. Old Park Road on-site traffic management and restricted on street parking. Park Avenue and West Avenue disruption to normal traffic.

Sunday 12 June: Roundhay Park to city centre (going through through Roundhay, Moortown,

Meanwood, Weetwood, Headingley, Woodhouse) : from 3.30am with a controlled reopening from 5pm

Within the city centre: from midnight on Saturday 11 June until midnight on Sunday 12 June

The route needs to be clear of vehicles so on-street parking on the city centre route will be suspended from Saturday 11 June. Residents and businesses will be asked to move cars and vehicles to a suitable place away from the route before road closures begin, especially if you need them during the event. Any vehicles on the route may be towed away.
