We, at Colourtex Group of Companies, Surat, engaged in manufacturing & marketing of
Dyestuffs & related products, are committed to continually improve EHS performance

2. Colourtex Health & Safety standard
In order to uphold our commitment to the Health and Safety of our employees, our
contracting employees, our neighbors and our customers. Colourtex has established a
set of internal Health and Safety Standards.
These Standards provide the foundation for the Colourtex Health and Safety
management system in the areas of EHS Management, Process Safety, Employee Health
and Safety and Emergency Response.
Quality manual and seven numbers of SYS (System) procedure prepared as per the ISO
9001:2008 requirement. EHS manual and eight numbers of EHS procedure prepared as
per the ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 requirement.

4. Health & Safety Performance for 2011
As an indicator of EHS awareness and to display improvement Colourtex measures and
tracks specific Health and Safety indicators. This allows us to identify the specific EHS
performance of all of our operational sites.
The chart below shows the continuous improvement and raised awareness of our
employees since 2006 on reporting of Near Miss Incidents. The objective and the
importance of reporting a Near Miss Incident is that by reporting, this action could
prevent an injury incident occurring.
We also record Frequency Rates and Severity Rates, which are as shown below for all
sites (Unit-1, 2, 3 & 4), from 2006 to the end of 2011.

5. Audits and Inspections
Colourtex has a developed a mature program for EHS auditing. The audit program
ensures we audit and review all aspects of our Environment, Quality and Occupational
Health and Safety management system requirements, Regulatory compliance,
Housekeeping, Process Safety Management and also Colourtex’s own internal Health
and Safety standard conformance.
To meet our obligation the following audits were conducted during the Year 2011.
Internal Audits:
1. EQHSMS internal audits, 2 conducted
2. Housekeeping audits, 234 conducted, in 78 different plant/area locations.
3. System audits, 57 conducted, for Safety Work Permit Systems, Management of
Change activities and for Incident Reporting and Investigation systems.
4. Plant Safety Inspections, 96 conducted in different plant/areas, these inspections
identified a total of 777 observations requiring corrective actions.
External Audits:
1. ISO 14001:2004 and BS OHSAS 18001:2007 Re-certification Audit by RINA in all
Units.
2. ISO 9001:2008 Surveillance Audit by Intertek in all Units.
3. Audit conducted by DOW & BASF.
6. Process Safety
Colourtex Process Safety Management Standards have been established to ensure all
Colourtex facilities have been designed, are operated and maintained in a responsible
manner ensuring we comply with or exceed regulatory requirements. These Standards
include principles and requirements for process safety management and for effective
Emergency Response programs, and also they are aligned with best industry practices
and Responsible Care® Guiding Principles. Process Hazard Analysis (Hazop) has been
conducting for process & operation.

7. Externally generated Safety Promotional Activities To help encourage employee involvement in 2011 we conducted the following two
activities.
The National Safety Day/Week (NSD) Campaign was celebrated from 4th
March to 10th
March 2011. The Campaign is aimed at……. renewing the commitment of employees to
work safely throughout the year. The ultimate overall objective of the campaign is to
ensure integration of Health and Safety into the work culture and peoples life style.

Fire Service Day
Every year the Fire Service Day is observed, for 2011 it was held on the 14th
April, with
general, enthusiastic involvement throughout the country.
The objectives of fire safety campaign are as follows.
• Create an awareness of the fire safety in all spheres of human activity.
• Focus attention on fire prevention in work place.
• Check operability of fire protection equipment.
• Enable employees to control fire effectively.
The theme for Fire Service Day - 2011 was
“LET’S WORK TOGETHER FOR FIRE SAFE INDIA”
We arranged the following programme to observe the Fire Service Day, this included
both classroom training and live equipment demonstrations

Near Miss Incident reporting Rewards Program To help raise more awareness into incidence reporting, in June 2006 we introduced an
internal reward program for Near Miss Incident reporting
In year 2011, 172 near miss incidents were reported and all the 172 employees who
reported these near miss events were rewarded. BUT most important these reports may
have saved 172 injury incidents to people working within our facilities.
In June 2010, we introduced an internal reward for maximum numbers of near miss
reporting by any employees in plant section & other section. Below are the photographs

Housekeeping Rewards,
To raise more awareness for good housekeeping standards, in October 2001 we
developed and introduced a reward program, to identify the area with the highest
standard of Housekeeping and Good Housekeeping performance within a specific plant
section, Godown Section, Utility section and Laboratory section. Since the inception of
the program in 2001 we have continued to develop and to raise our standards of
expectation to ensure we continue to develop and improve.

12. Medical Services
As a company policy a pre-employee medical examination is conducted for all new
employees and periodically medical examination is conducted for our existing
employees.
During 2011,
• Awareness program on Tuberculosis arranged for our workman.
• Blood donation camp arranged on every month at deferent units.
13. Fire Safety
To ensure people are trained and equipment is available and ready to use, in 2011 we
conducted the following:-
5814 Fire extinguishers were serviced. (each of our fire extinguishers are serviced once
in every three months)
610 Fire extinguishers refilled and hydraulically tested. (Each DCP fire extinguisher
refilled and hydraulically tested once in every three years)
1926 Fire hydrant valve serviced and tested. (Each fire hydrant valve serviced and tested
once in every three month)
2244 Fire hose pipe checked and tested. (Each fire hose pipe serviced and tested once
in every three month)
107 SCBA sets checked and serviced. (Each SCBA sets serviced once in every three
month)
All fire hydrant pumps are also checked and tested on a weekly basis.
All sprinkles system are serviced on a six monthly basis.

14. BASIC Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
In December 2011 we again reviewed the basic PPE requirements for people entering
our sites and confirmed that to protect our employees. The following Basic PPE must be
worn by ALL staff when entering the site and remain in place at all times.

The following Basic PPE must be worn by ALL staff employees when entering the site and remain in place at all times.
Safety Helmet with chin belt in place
Safety Shoes or Gum boot or Shoes
Spectacles
Note: - The PPE detailed above is the basic requirements for all Colourtex staff employees for their protection on site, the only exemptions are as detailed below……. 1) Basic PPE must be worn by all staff employees prior to enter in Unit-2 manufacturing
area. 2) Basic PPE must be worn by all staff employees immediately prior to start shift and
during working hours in Unit-1, 3 & 4. 3) It is not compulsory to wear all BASIC PPE in plant/area offices, training room,
Amenity block, eating locations.
Additional PPE/RPE should be worn as per the task or the safety
permit requirements. The above requirements have been identified to ensure we protect all those peoples who are on our site, this is for your safety and people who do not comply with this requirement will be disciplined.

15. Contractor Safety
To help raise the Safety awareness of Contractor Companies and their employees who
work on our sites, we introduced a new role, a Colourtex Contractor Safety Officer.
During 2011, we conducted following activity to raise safety awareness among the
contractor employees.
• Develop Contractor Improvement Plan for 2011,
• Develop SOP for Safety of Contractor activities,
• Develop Two page Basic standard for contractor,
• Revised Contractor Induction system
• Prepared Safety orientation training module and deliver to all contractors
Supervisor, Gang leaders, Owners.
• Arranged Safety meeting with all contractors
• Develop an Improvement Plan for 2012.
To ensure continuous development of contractor activity, we have devplored an
Improvement Plan for the Year 2012 is detailed below.
