July 2019 Ira Sanders

“The Little Old Lady From Pasadena (Go Granny, go, Granny, go, Granny, go) Has a pretty little flowerbed of white garde-nias; (Go Granny, go, Granny, go, Granny, go) But parked in a rickety old garage, There's a brand new shiny red super stock Dodge. And ev'rybody's sayin' that there's nobody meaner than The Little Old Lady From Pasadena. She drives real fast and she drives real hard, She's the terror of Colorado Boulevard.

It's The Little Old Lady From Pasadena! If you see her on the strip, don't try to choose her, (Go Granny, go, Granny, go, Granny, go) You might have a go-er, but you'll never lose her; (Go Granny, go, Granny, go, Granny, go) She's gonna get a ticket now, sooner or later, 'Cause she can't keep her foot off the accelerator.” The Beach Boys

I don’t think we have too many “Little Old Lady” members in the club that have “a brand new shiny red super stock Dodge” in their garage but I do know of one that has a modi-fied 350Z in her garage, another with a magma red 370Z Roadster and yet another that has a yellow 350Z, but then again none of them is an “Old Lady”. That is part of the di-versity that the club enjoys but I would like to see more diversity in the club, starting with the area of age. We do have a number of younger members that I have been endeavor-ing to get more involved in the club and I think that I have had some qualified success in accomplishing that. Before I let you in as to how I have succeeded in doing this, I want to mention something that came up in a conversation with one of our younger members. This person perceives that there is an age bias or even discrimination in our club in regards to our younger members who are trying to drag the older members into the 21

st

century, even if it is kicking and screaming all the way. I understand the crux of this as some, or even many of us old farts are overwhelmed by the technical advances in “social media”. Yeah I know that all of you know what that is and some of you may be resistant to the club becoming involved in the “social media” advances that has swept the world. I understand that as I am also resistant to learning this technology but I believe that the only way the club is going to remain strong and viable as the 21

st century cont. pg. 3

President’s Corner Continued

Cont. from pg 2 advances is to adapt to and accept these “new fangled” ideas. So, the bottom line here is that I am asking everyone, both older and younger included, to be open to these new ideas in “marketing the club” and to not be discouraging when new ideas and technology is proposed to the club. If you have a concern or disagreement with these ideas which is bound to happen, please present them in a constructive manner and in the form of healthy debate.

So, now here is how I believe I have succeeded in getting younger members more involved in the club and to guide us into the future. Here is the proposed slate of officers for club for the coming new fiscal year:

President: Travis Scott

Vice-President: Tiffany Gordon

Membership: Andy Mortenson

Treasurer: Bill Lohringel

Secretary: Cheryl McKenney

Public Relations: Don Gordon

Inter-club Liaison:

Odometer Editor: Tammy Sanders

As you can see, we will have two younger members taking places in guiding positions and fortunately, we also have experienced officers staying on the Board who will be instrumental in helping the new Board members. Also, I have agreed to stick around and help Travis with his new position and Don will be available to help Tiffany with her new duties. I think this is a great step forward for the club as we need an infusion of new ideas which have escaped me during my second term as President. Please give the new Board the opportunity to air their ideas and listen to them as well as providing constructive input during any ensuing discussions.

I am sure you have noticed that there is a blank for Inter-club Liaison. We need someone to fill that slot as it was previously held by Travis Scott, but as you can see, he is running for President. So, I am asking for someone who is enthusiastic about contact with ZCCA as they will be responsible to be our primary contact with ZCCA, including voting in ZCCA elections and decisions on various issues, and promote and coordinate joint events with other car clubs and groups. Travis has all the information as he has already set up a line of communication with ZCCA so all the legwork is done. We need someone, so please step up.

I was contacted by Bill Miller of the Shelby Club about track days at HPR. I told him the same thing the club decided, that we can’t afford to do HPR. He of course understood and then told me that his club actually made $600.00 on their last track event at HPR. They had 42 cars and were successful despite the $8000.00 spent to run there. They were charging $210.00 per car. He did invite the club to participate in their next track day which is October 5, 2019. The cost will be the same $210.00. You can reach Bill at wemarv at gmail.com. If you want his phone number, contact me and I’ll give it to you.

Cont. from pg 3 “It's summertime summertime sum sum summertime Summertime summertime sum sum summertime Summertime summertime sum sum summertime Summertime summertime sum sum summertime summertime... Well shut them books and throw 'em away And say goodbye to dull school days Look alive and change your ways It's summertime... Well no more studying history And no more reading geography And no more dull geometry Because it's summertime It's time to head straight for them hills It's time to live and have some thrills Come along and have a ball A regular free-for-all Well are you comin' or are you ain't You slow poke are my one complaint Hurry up before I faint It's summertime” The Jamies Sorry, I just couldn’t resist another song since it is now actually summer. It’s supposed to be in the 90’s this week and if that ain’t summer then I don’t know what is. As it is summer, I’m in the process of setting up a car show at Spartan College in Broomfield. Most of the details are in an article elsewhere in the Odometer. Since I got this set just today, 6/26, not all the details have been worked out. This is a new event we’ve never done before nor has anyone else as this the 1

st annual ZCCC Car Show at Spartan

College. We can really use a BIG turnout for this one. Don Gordon and I have been in touch with Jodie Cordova, Service Manager at Larry H Miller Nissan in Highlands Ranch to get them back on our discount list. She told us she is very enthusiastic about renewing the relationship between ZCCC and LHM Nissan. Nothing has been etched in stone yet but Don and I have more meetings coming up with Jodie to work out the details. Stay tuned and we’ll let you know how it works out.

And on a final note, I believe the Board will be considering a suggestion that each member who facilitates and/or arranges for a speaker for our meetings will be awarded at least 1 active member point. I’m hoping this will be discussed at the upcoming Board meeting. Stay tuned on this also.

Ira

Tweet Tweet-ZCCC Has A Twitter Page

In a world surrounded by social media, our club has joined the social media platform with our Facebook page and Facebook group. Now, we are joining the Twitter platform, as well. Twitter is a social platform that allows people to search for virtually any topic and find out trending information. All messages (tweets) have to use 280 or less characters, so it’s a great way to get a short message out to the universe. Twitter will allow us to reach a broader audience, to find pictures our club has been “tagged” in, and to communicate with members and potential members about great events. If you would like more information, please read this article that explains what Twitter is, Lifewire. You can see our Twitter page WITHOUT even being a TWITTER member. Just go to https://twitter.com/zcarclub to view new messages (tweets) or if you are a Twitter member, you can follow our page. Please contact Tiffany Gordon if you need any assistance.

under the Upcoming Event section http://www.zccc.org/event/national-museum-of-world-war-ii-aviation-tour/ ) Cost: $14.00 adult, $12.00 senior The National Museum of World War II Aviation https://www.worldwariiaviation.org/ in Colorado Springs documents the role that military aviation played in the emergence of our nation as a world power during the Second World War. Through a combination of its aircraft collection, exhibits, interactive displays, and docent led tours, the museum tells the story of our nation's tremendous technological advancements during the war, and de-scribes the lasting social and economic changes that were essential to the success of the Allied war effort. Through close relationships with collectors around the country, the museum displays a wide array of fully restored aircraft that represent all aspects of America's involvement in World War II. Most of the aircraft are meticulously restored to flying condition, and many are flown at the museum on public demonstration days. The tour will include a visit to the WestPac Restorations facility which is adjacent to the museum. WestPac Restorations, a premier World War II aircraft restoration and maintenance facility, is located on the north side of the museum campus. Housed in a state-of-the-art 65,000 square foot facility, WestPac Restorations is a highly specialized FAA-certified repair station that includes paint facilities, a prop shop, and a full service metal forming shop. WestPac has been closely affiliated with the museum since its inception, and allows public access to its facility through the museum’s docent-led tour program. We are scheduled for the 12:00 noon tour which includes WestPac Restorations. We’ll meet at Cabela’s Sporting Goods located on the southwest side of the intersection of I-25 and Ridgegate Parkway in Lone Tree. We’ll leave at 10:00 AM and convoy down to the museum which is located on the south side of Colorado Springs. Please note that there is an admission fee of $14.00 for adults and $12.00 for seniors. Contact Andy Mortenson if you have any questions.

Bike Ride

We met at 9:30 AM on the east side of Cherry Creek State Park and rode along the South Cherry Creek Trail 13 miles to Parker and the Hickory House restaurant. Due to an unfortunate scheduling conflict with Phil Taylor’s Birthday party, there were only three of us, Steve Robertson, Don Gordon and me who made the ride. However, Judy Gordon joined us at the restaurant for an enjoyable lunch. We made it back to the cars just as it started to rain. I think everyone enjoyed the event and I want to thank those who turned out.

A 1971 Datsun 240Z with a 2.8 liter straight 6 with three Weber Side Draft 40 DCOE Carbs, a Cannon intake and a 2 Piece header. Only about 2,000 miles on the engine and transmission since rebuild. The body is in good shape but could use paint. The suspension has been rebuilt with heavy duty Sway Bars front and rear with Tokico adjustable shocks all around. The suspension, carb jetting and new clutch were all done by Jeff Winter of Winter Motor-

sports. The car is solid mechanically and is at the point to take it to full race or make a really nice street car. Asking $10,500, Call Tom at 303-549-0556
