Hello Everyone,
Hope y'all enjoyed the Christmas Party as much as I
did. Thank you to those who helped set up and take down
the tables. Bea, thank you for picking up the ham and
cooking it for us. Everything was yummy! I thought we
had a great selection of food.
Another thank you to Betty and Jerry for the
program. It looks like we have a nice line-up for
programs next year. It was nice to be able to sign up
ahead and see what we will be doing.
Don't forget that our board meeting will be on
Thursday the 2nd of January! I won't even have my tree
down yet!
Love to all,
Marsha

Colorado West Quilters Guild
Minutes of the General Meeting
November 13, 2019
The meeting was called to order at 7:09 PM by
President Marsha Root. There will be no regular meeting
and no committee reports; we are having a Christmas
party.
Thank you to everyone for bringing donations for the
Community Food Bank.
The minutes of the board meeting and members
meeting were approved as published in the newsletter.
The BOM blocks drawing was won by Linda Widstrand,
and she took home 34 Snowball blocks.
Jenni Stansbury gave a report on the Barnes and
Noble Book Fair held on December 7. The guild earned
$91 in cash donations, along with our percentage of sales
totaling $744.28, for a total of $835.28. Thank you to all
who participated to make this event successful.
A drawing was held for all the members who made
items to sell at the venues we participated in. Sheila
Symanski won the $25 gift certificate from the Owls
Nest.
A drawing was held for all of the members who
participated in the UFO challenge and completed UFOs
from their lists. Judy Moeny won a $25 gift certificate
from the Owls Nest.
The 2020 Challenge was presented by Brenda
Bloemke and Sharon Samuel. Packets are available in
three colors for $8 each. The Challenge Reveal will be at
the April Meeting. Rules and specifications are included
with each packet. The theme this year is: Dresses; past,
present, and future. Please cover your label with tape
when you enter your finished design.
Jerry DeBoer and Betty Reed presented the programs
for 2020.
January will be a schoolhouse sampler taught by four
of our members. February program will be Barn Quilt
Blocks, and a workshop will be held the day after the
regular meeting. You will make a 2’x2’ painted block on
wood. All materials are provided; class cost is $75 and
includes lunch.
Kathy Rhoades reported that there were sales of $33
tonight. We have made $596.25. That is $82.25 more
than we made in 2018.
Veterans Quilts: Gina Gust reported that they need
more Veterans quilts. There were six turned in tonight.
Thank you for making quilts to honor our Veterans.
Door prizes were won by Susan Alderman, Tammy
Dahl, Linda Widstrand, Gina Gust, and Jenni Stansbury.
Respectfully submitted, Sheila Symanski, Secretary

Betty Reed
Happy 2020 quilters! We’re starting the year with
School House, learning new techniques from each other.
How lucky we are to have talented quilters among us
who are willing to share their knowledge. Gini Bright
will share her quick table runner, Gina Gust will show us
how to make a vinyl project bag, Bea Root has the cutest,
quickest, hexi pot holder, and Sheila Symanski will
demonstrate quilt as you go (for those of us who missed
Marguerita’s class). Thank you, ladies. It’s sure to be a
fun evening.
If you’re thinking about taking the Barn Quilt Block
class, contact Jerri or Betty for information and
registration. The $75 fee covers everything you’ll need
for your beautiful block: 2’x2’ piece of wood, paint, even
lunch. Come join the fun! The workshop will be
Thursday, February 13, 9 am to 4 pm at the Grand Vista.

Book and Magazine Clearance Sale
Kathy Rhoades
As we did last year, we’ll be holding a Quilters’
Bargain Clearance Sale in January.
For this sale only, all books, both fiction and quilt
books, will be going for the bargain price of 50 cents
apiece, and magazines will be selling for 2 for 25 cents. I
hope you’ll find something to appeal to your frugality
and tempt your quilter’s heart.
It’s hard to believe (at least for me) that we’re
starting our fourth year of rotating monthly sales. For
2019, we saw an income of $596 which is $82 more than
we made in 2018. I’m truly impressed! Thank you all so
much!
This endeavor would not succeed without your
participation in donating and buying. I hope you’re still
enjoying the sales – there needs to be a happy factor to it.
I am looking forward to another year.
As we move forward, however, I would like you to
consider splitting the three sales, Books, Magazines, and
Fabric, into three different chairs. Each chair would only
present her sale four times a year. It would lighten my
load and give two more people a chance to engage more
with the guild and become more familiar with our really
great members. I would like to continue with the Scrap
Fabric (my first love) and have Books and Magazines
move on to new custodians. Right now, it’s just a
suggestion, but I hope you’ll give it some thought.
I wish you a Happy New Year, and as always, you
can reach me, Kathy Rhoades, at 970-241-2773.
Veteran's Lap Robes Gina Gust
Hope West called and said they need more quilts. If
you have time after the holidays, please consider making
one or more. They are quick and easy at only 44" square
and can be pieced in any way you like. Use patriotic
fabrics and or colors and please include a label that says,
"Thank you for your Service," CWQG, and your name
and year if you like. If you would like a kit to put
together, please call or email Gina Gust, 970-683-9121,
or [email protected], and she will bring them to the
January Guild meeting.

Quilted Comforts
Janet Smith
At the December meeting, we received 6 quilts, 4
tops, 62 doll quilts, and a variety of 9 patch squares.
Also 19 quilts were received from the Barnes & Noble
bookfair. We really appreciate the participation from all
our members, as all benefit the charities we serve.
This month 13 quilts were delivered to Strive, 9 to
the Center for Children, 3 to the Pregnancy Center, and
63 doll quilts to Golden K. Our charity organizations are
truly grateful for our donations, as our quilts help provide
comfort and healing for their clients.
We have approximately 200 piecing kits. We hope
that everyone will take a piecing kit as all piecing kits
have a pattern and all pieces are cut. You just have to
sew it together! We really wish to thank the members
that have stepped up and taken quilting kits to complete.
The more turnover we have, the more quilts we can
deliver to our charities.
So far this year (June - December) we have received
and delivered 74 quilts and 113 doll quilts. We have
received 19 tops and numerous 9 patch squares and
various cuts of material.
The Quilted Comforts Committee has divided up the
duties so that each of us has a small portion of the job.
You may contact Judy Moeny, Janet Smith, or Terry
Tusberg for more information.
The committee usually has workdays the 4th
Wednesday of each month, but we will not have a
workday in December. Join us again on January.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
