• COMPLEMENTARY COLORS : two colors that are the direct opposite of each other, such as red and green and blue-purple and yellow-orange. Complementary colors create the most contrast and balance in design.

THE COLOR WHEEL A color wheel helps organize the colors into their logical relationships. The largest

shapes are for the primary colors; the medium shapes between them are the secondary shapes and the smaller shapes are the intermediate colors. On the line beside each

color write the name of the color. With color pencil color each shape correctly. Label the primary colors first, then secondary colors, and lastly the intermediate colors.

Analogous colors are those colors nearest one another on the color wheel. Name one set of three analogous colors ______________________, _______________________, and _____________________________. Complementary colors are those directly across from each other on the color wheel. The contrast very strongly to each other, and when they are mixed they will create a neutral gray. Using just the primary and secondary, list the three common pairs of complementary colors. ____________________ and _____________________ _____________________ and ______________________ or _________________ and __________________
