Colors affect you in many ways. Look at theseimages:

They affect you in two different ways becauseOf the colors. Few people are aware of the power ofcolor. Color can help you present yourself in aparticular way, that is why it is important to

understandcolor when picking your clothing and designs.

Understanding Color Terms Hue: the name of a color Value: the lightness or darkness of a color Tint: light value of a color, made by adding white to a color Shade: dark value of a color, made by adding black to a color Tone: to change the intensity of a color add gray and you get a tone. The intensity of a color is how bright or dull it is. Neutrals are black, white, and gray. White is the absence of color and it reflects light. Black is the presence of all colors and it absorbs light. Gray is a blend of black and white.

The Color Wheel

The color wheel is a chart that shows the relationship among colors.

Primary colors are red, yellow, and blue and cannot be made by combining any other colors.

Secondary colors are two primary colors mixed together to make orange, green, and violet.

Tertiary/Intermediate colors are one primary color mixed with one secondary color to make a new color.

Warm & Cool Colors

Warm colors are reds, yellows, and oranges. Cool colors are greens, blues, and violets. Warm colors draw attention, and come out at you. Cool colors recede and are calming.

Complimentary colors are

opposite each other on the color wheel.

Split-Complimentary schemes include a color and the colors on both

sides of its compliment.

Triadic color schemes are the

colors that are equally spaced from each other

on the color wheel.

Analogous schemes are

schemes using colors that are

adjacent each other on the color wheel.

Color Schemes

Monochromatic color schemes are when

different shades, tints, and/or tones of one color

are used.

Accented Neutral schemes are schemes

using a neutral color combined with a bright

accent color.
