UseofthedemonstrationsoftwaredevelopedbySonyCorporationoruseofthesoftwarewithcustomerdevelopedapplicationsoftwaremaydamagehardware,theapplicationprogramorthecamera.SonyCorporationisnotliableforanydamagesundertheseconditions.

Operation

Startthecameracontrolsoftwareonyourcomputerafteryouturnonthecameraandtheimageisdisplayed.

Phenomena specific to CMOS image sensors

ThefollowingphenomenathatmayappearinimagesarespecifictoCMOS(complementarymetal-oxidesemiconductor)imagesensors.Theydonotindicatemalfunctions.

Rolling shutterAsCMOSimagesensorsuseshuttersthatcaptureimagesline-by-line,thereisaslighttimedifferencebetweenthetopandbottomofanimage.Asaresult,imagesmayappearskewedifthecameraismoved.

White flecksAlthoughtheCMOSimagesensorsareproducedwithhigh-precisiontechnologies,finewhiteflecksmaybegeneratedonthescreeninrarecases,causedbycosmicrays,etc.ThisisrelatedtotheprincipleofCMOSimagesensorsandisnotamalfunction.

Thewhiteflecksespeciallytendtobeseeninthefollowingcases:•whenoperatingatahighenvironmentaltemperature•whenyouhaveraisedthemastergain(sensitivity)•whenoperatinginSlow-Shuttermode

AliasingWhenfinepatterns,stripes,orlinesareshot,theymayappearjaggedorflicker.

TheFCBcameraemploysa20×opticalzoomlenscombinedwithadigitalzoomfunction;thiscameraallowsyoutozoomupto240×.

• Optical 20×, f = 4.7 mm to 94.0 mm (F 1.6 to F 3.5)

Thehorizontalangleofview(1080imode)isapproximately55.4degrees(wideend)to2.9degrees(teleend).DigitalZoomenlargesthecenterofthesubjectbyexpandingeachimageinboththeverticalandhorizontaldirections.When240×zoomisused,thenumberofeffectivepictureelementsineachdirectionreducesto1/12andtheoverallresolutiondeteriorates.

YoucanactivatethezoominthefollowingwayswithaVISCAcommand.

Focus

Focushasthefollowingmodes,allofwhichcanbesetusingVISCACommands.

• Auto Focus Mode Theminimumfocusdistanceis10mmattheoptical

wideendand1000mmattheopticalteleend,andisindependentofthedigitalzoom.

TheAutoFocus(AF)functionautomaticallyadjuststhefocuspositiontomaximisethehighfrequencycontentofthepictureinacentermeasurementarea,takingintoconsiderationthehighluminanceandstrongcontrastcomponents.

- Normal AF ModeThisisthenormalmodeforAFoperations.- Interval AF ModeThemodeusedforAFmovementscarriedoutatparticularintervals.ThetimeintervalsforAFmovementsandforthetimingofthestopscanbesetinone-secondincrementsusingtheSetTimeCommand.Theinitialvalueforbothissettofiveseconds.- Zoom Trigger ModeWhenthezoomischanged,thepre-setvalue(initiallysetat5seconds)becomesthatforAFMode.Then,itstops.

AFsensitivitycanbesettoeitherNormalorLOW.- NormalReachesthehighestfocusspeedquickly.Usethiswhenshootingasubjectthatmovesfrequently.Usually,thisisthemostappropriatemode.- LOWImprovesthestabilityofthefocus.Whenthelightinglevelislow,theAFfunctiondoesnottakeeffect,eventhoughthebrightnessvaries,contributingtoastableimage.

• Manual Focus Mode ManualFocushasbothaStandardSpeedModeanda

VariableSpeedMode.StandardSpeedModefocusesatafixedrateofspeed.VariableSpeedModehaseightspeedlevelsthatcanbesetusingaVISCACommand.

Spot Exposure ModeInFullAutoAE,thelevelfortheentirescreeniscomputedandtheoptimumAutoIrisandGainlevelsaredetermined.InSpotAE,aparticularsectionofthesubjectcanbedesignated,andthenthatportionoftheimagecanbeweightedandavaluecomputedsothatIrisandGaincanbeoptimizedtoobtainanimage.Forexample,inanimagewithalotofmovementandwithvaryinglevelsofbrightness,portionswithoutmuchchangecanbedesignatedassucha“spot,”andchangestothescreencanbeminimizedinthatarea.Asshowninthediagrambelow,arangeof16blocksverticallyand16blockshorizontallycanbedesignated.Inthecasewherethecenterisdesignated(showninblack),theleveliscomputedalongwithaweightedvalueforthesurroundingblock(shaded),includingthespecifiedportions;andthentheGainandIrisareset.Thevalueofthedesignatedportionsandthesurroundingareasshouldbecalculatedas100%,therestshouldbesetto20%.TherangeoftheSpotAEframeisfixedto5blocksverticallyand4blockshorizontally.

Slow AE (Automatic Exposure)

TheslowAEResponse(automaticexposure)functionallowsyoutoreducetheexposureresponsespeed.Usuallythecameraissetupsothattheoptimumexposurecanbeobtainedautomaticallywithinabout1second.However,usingtheslowAEresponsefunctionallowsyoutolengthentheautomaticexposureresponsespeedfromthefactorysetupspeed(01(hex)uptoapprox.10minutes(30(hex)).Forexample,withthenormalsetting(about1second),iftheheadlightsofacararecaughtbythecamera,thecameraautomaticallyadjuststheexposuresothatitcanshootahigh-intensitysubject(inthiscase,theheadlights).Asaresult,imagesaroundtheheadlights,thatis,therestofthesubject,excepttheheadlights,becomesrelativelydark,andpoorlydistinguished.However,usingtheslowAEfunctionmeanstheAEresponsespeedwillbeslower,andresponsetimewillbelonger.Asaresult,evenifthecameracatchesahigh-intensitysubject(e.g.,theheadlights)foramoment,youcanstilleasilydistinguishtheportionsoftheimagesurroundingtheheadlights.

High Resolution Mode

Thismodeenhancesedgesandproduceshigherdefinitionimages.

Aperture Control

Aperturecontrolisafunctionwhichadjuststheenhancementoftheedgesofobjectsinthepicture.Thereare16levelsofadjustment,startingfrom“noenhancement.”Whenshootingtext,thiscontrolmayhelpbymakingthemsharper.

Back Light Compensation

Whenthebackgroundofthesubjectistoobright,orwhenthesubjectistoodarkduetoshootingintheAEmode,backlightcompensationwillmakethesubjectappearclearer.

Wide Dynamic Range Mode (WD)

TheWideDynamicRangemodeisafunctionfordividinganimageintoseveralblocksandcorrectingblocked-upshadowsandblown-outhighlightsinaccordancewiththeintensitydifference.Itenablesyoutoobtainimagesinwhichportionsrangingfromdarktolightcanberecognized,evenwhencapturingasubjectwithalargeintensitydifferencethatisbacklitorincludesextremelylightportions.Imageswithwidedynamicrangeareproducedbycombininglong-exposuresignals(normalshutter)withthesignalsofthehigh-intensityportionsobtainedwithashortexposure(high-speedshutter).

Wide Dynamic Range Auto On/Off ModeThewidedynamicrangecanbesettobeautomaticallyswitchedON/OFFinaccordancewiththeintensitydifferenceobtainedbydividinganimageintoseveralblocksandthenaveragingtheintensityofeachblock.

Wide Dynamic Range Auto On/Off Mode

When the intensity difference between the dark portions and light portions of a subject becomes large because of back lighting or the like, the wide dynamic range mode is switched ON.

Auto On/Off

When the subject changes and the intensity difference between the dark portions and light portions becomes small, the wide dynamic range mode is switched OFF.

Noise Reduction

TheNR(NoiseReduction)functionremovesnoise(bothrandomandnon-random)toprovideclearerimages.Thisfunctionhassixsteps:levels1to5,plusoff.TheNReffectisappliedinlevelsbasedonthegain,andthissettingvaluedeterminesthelimitoftheeffect.Inbrightconditions,changingtheNRlevelwillnothaveaneffect.

High Sensitivity Mode

Inthismode,highersensitivitygainisappliedasstandardgainincreases,reachingagainlevelatMAXgainofupto4xthestandardgain.Insuchcases,however,therewillbeahighvolumenoiseintheimage.

Custom Gamma Mode

Gammacorrectioncanbechangedinthismode.Thefollowingfiveoptionsareavailable. 1:Standard 2:Straightgamma 3:S-curve-Low 4:S-curve-Mid 5:S-curve-High

Tip

Blocked-upshadowsinimageswillbemorenoticeablethanusual.

Color Enhancement

Acapturedcolorimageisconvertedto256levelsofgray,andyoucansetacolortoalllevelsbrighterthanthethresholdvalue,andanothercolortoalllevelsdarkerthanthethresholdvalue.

Color specifications•Youcanselectfromninecolorstospecifyforthe

high-intensityandlow-intensitycolors.Coloroptions:Yellow,cyan,green,white,magenta,red,blue,black,gray

•Thedefaultsettingsforcolorspecificationare“green”forhigh-intensityand“white”forlow-intensity.

Thewidedynamicrangemodeincludesthefollowingoperationmodes.
