JOKE OF THE WEEK………

One night a police officer was staking out a particularly rowdy bar for possible DUI violations. At closing time, he saw a fellow tumble out of the bar, trip on the curb, and try his keys in five different cars before he found his. Then he sat in the front seat fumbling around with his keys for several minutes. Everyone else left the bar and drove off. Finally he started his engine and began to pull away. The police officer was waiting for him. He stopped the driver, read him his rights and administered the Breathalyzer test. The results showed a reading of 0.0. The puzzled officer demanded to know how that could be. The driver replied, "Tonight I'm the designated decoy.”

WORD OF THE WEEK…………

Logy \LOH-ghee\ adjective

- marked by sluggishness and lack of vitality : groggy

EXAMPLES I was feeling logy after eating such a big meal, so I decided to take a brief nap. "I often feel logy before putting on a record that I'm slated to review, like I'm getting up in the morning for work. But that dissipates. The music soon becomes a pool cue that gets mental billiards rolling, points clacking against counterpoints." — From an album review by Carl Wilson in Slate Magazine, November 1, 2013 DID YOU KNOW? Based on surface resemblance, you might guess that "logy" (also sometimes spelled "loggy") is related to "groggy," but that's not the case. "Groggy" ultimately comes from "Old Grog," the nickname of an English admiral who was notorious for his cloak made of a fabric called grogram—and for adding water to his crew's rum. The sailors called the rum mixture "grog" after the admiral. Because of the effect of grog, "groggy" came to mean "weak and unsteady on the feet or in action." No one is really sure about the origin of "logy," but experts speculate that it comes from the Dutch word "log," meaning "heavy." Its first recorded use in English, from an 1847 London newspaper, refers to a "loggy stroke" in rowing.

FROM THE SUGGESTION BOX

Four requests were received for cold water and/or ice dispensers on the third floor. With hydration being so important to our health this is a very good idea. A suggestion was made to ask if it would be possible fo ra Priest to come periodically to hear Confession. While I know that we are served by Eucharistic Ministers and that the Pastor does come by on a schedule – I do not have any of the details of timing etc.—but will check. Music was suggested for the Inn Dining Room during Meals. This one is a challenge --- not because providing music is difficult --- but because for some people with hearing aids the addition of music makes hearing conversation more difficult. I have found in other settings that the solution is remarkably low tech and involes having the music play from only one end of the Dining Room and with proper seating those who want music hqve it and those who do not want music don’t hear it. A few questions/observations about Inn/Garden Activities, pets, and hygiene were duly noted and have been passed along And there was a kind and much appreciated note thanking me for my newspaper column

CLOSING NOTES……………. Greetings All ------------ As I write the newsletter I get periodic updates about the Super Bowl --- It certainly did not turn out to be the closely matched contest that was predicted by many. It is as usual wonderful see Members find ways to get together as they did tonight for at least the first half! We just got back from New York State where we went to welcome our new Grandson - Thomas. Everything went well and he and my daughter Kellie are both doing great. With 4 grandchildren I feel very fortunate --- and just a little bit old. It is not too early to be thinking about Spring and I get the feeling that a little Cabin Fever Reliever (CFR) is needed. I’m expect that some of you have ideas of what will do the trick ---- and it might not be one big thing --- but maybe a series of small things……………….. How about something that has never been done before? Something that grabs your imagination……………….. Have a Great Week ---------

----- Howie
