Four Decades Occidental has been an active investor in Colombia for over 40 years. Occidental has operations in the Llanos Norte Basin and working interests in the Middle Magdalena Basin. Giant Field Operator Occidental operates the giant Caño Limón Field in the Llanos Norte Basin, which has produced more than 1.39 billion barrels of oil during 33 years of continuous operations. The 1983 field discovery by Occidental enabled Colombia to become a net oil exporter. One of the Largest Independent Producers In 2016, gross production from Occidental’s Colombia operations was approximately 84,000 barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) per day. Our share of production was approximately 33,000 BOE per day. Growing Colombia’s Oldest Oil Field Gross production in 2016 at the Middle Magdalena Basin’s La Cira-Infantas Field, Colombia’s oldest oil field, was more than 36,000 BOE per day. and working interests in the Middle Magdalena Basin.

Giant Field Operator Occidental operates the giant Caño Limón Field in the Llanos Norte

Thermal Innovation In 2016, Occidental launched a thermal recovery pilot in the

Teca-Cocorná Field in the Middle Magdalena Basin to more

easily extract heavy crude. The pilot is a collaborative effort with

Ecopetrol, and is producing with better-than-anticipated results.

Environmental Leadership Occidental’s Chipirón Field in the Llanos Norte Basin has been

recognized by Asociación Colombiana de Ingenieros de Petróleos

(Acipet) for innovative efforts to safely produce oil and gas in a

remote area of Colombia while preserving the environment.

$8.8 Bi l l ion in Royalt ies Occidental has contributed approximately $8.8 billion in total

royalties to Colombia over the past three decades. Nearly $8 billion

has come from Occidental’s operations in the Llanos Norte Basin,

with the remainder from the Middle Magdalena Basin.

$3.9 Bi l l ion in Taxes Occidental paid more than $3.9 billion in taxes from 1986

through 2016, making it Colombia’s third-largest corporate

taxpayer over the period.

Local Purchasing Occidental purchased over $337 million in goods and services

in Colombia in 2016.

Colombia Workforce Occidental’s 2016 workforce in Colombia included more than

3,900 employees and contractors. Our employees in Colombia

have worked for the company an average of 11 years.

98% Colombian Nationals Occidental places a priority on the hiring and career development

of local residents. More than 98 percent of our employees in

Colombia — including 74 percent of the senior managers —

are Colombian nationals.

Human Rights Commitment Occidental actively promotes respect for human rights among our

employees, contractors and neighboring communities through

training and awareness activities. All employees and security

contractors undergo training on human rights. In 2016, the

Colombian government honored Occidental as a “Reintegration Ally”

for its commitment to human rights and the protection of children.

Support ing Communit ies Occidental-funded El Alcaraván Foundation supports a microfinance

program that provides small entrepreneurs with development tools

and financial assistance. In 2016, the program distributed nearly

$3.7 million in microloans among communities in Arauca, benefitting

more than 2,600 local entrepreneurs from low-income areas.

Economic Development Through El Alcaraván Foundation, Occidental is supporting a new

chocolate factory that will help train and educate Llanos Norte Basin

residents in chocolate production, marketing and sales.

Safety Leader Occidental’s 2016 combined employee-and-contractor Injury and

Illness Incidence Rate (IIR) of 0.04 in Colombia is approximately

1 percent of the current U.S. private industry average IIR of 3.0

published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
