COLNE RUGBY COLNE RUGBY ACADEMY ACADEMY 16 -19 year olds
Colne Sports College are delighted to be able to offer an outstanding educational programme combining academic and sporting develop-ment. Aimed at 16 year old rugby players who are completing their GCSEs in summer 2012 the course aims to give young players a taste
of life in an professional training environment.
Introduction Based at Church Road Campus in Brightlingsea, Colchester, the programme pro-vides aspiring young rugby players, serious about their sport, the opportunity to combine regular training with their academic studies. This is a fantastic opportuni-ty for student athletes to improve as players, learn more about the game and complete an academic course suitable to their interests and ability. In addition to the main academic & rugby programme, all learners will also be given the opportunity to study Leadership and Coaching courses which compli-ment the sports programme and further enhance their CVs. Elite players may also be nominated to County School f Rugby trials over the 2 year period. Student Athletes will be supported and managed by the college’s experienced coaching and teaching staff, alongside RFU accredited coach educators. Together they will supervise their academic learning, strength & conditioning, technical & tactical development and competitive programmes, and inspire players to live by our core values of Teamwork, Work Ethic, Discipline & Respect

Your Challenge The course is demanding both physically and mentally, so
only those with a real commitment to their rugby and
their academic studies need apply! Your coaches and
teachers will have high expectations of you and will push
you to achieve your potential. You need to be able to cope
with pressure and have good organisation and time man-
agement skills.

ber and January, or would like more information regarding the college please com-

Progression and success stories Following completion of the course the majority of gradu-
ating students choose to continue their education at Univer-
sity. Previous students have been accepted at institutions
such as Essex, Buckingham, Exeter, Brighton, Bath, and St
Mary's where they have continue d their academic studies
and rugby careers. There have also been elite players who
have passed through the course and now have semi - profes-
sional playing contracts with national league clubs. Other
students pursued opportunities which took them directly
into the world of work - some within the sports industry,
some in other areas.

Academic courses The programme offers the following academic courses which students can choose from: - A-Levels in Biology & Psychology, with Single L3 BTEC award in Sport - L3 BTEC Extended Dip/Diploma in Sport Development Coaching & Fitness - A - Levels of students choice; Maths, English, Sciences, Business, economics, Dra-ma, Sociology, Drama, Geography, Media, Graphic products, History, BTEC Sport, Travel and Tourism, Photography, Psychology, others where demand allows
Rugby Programme Players will study in the morning and train in the afternoons ensuring a healthy balance between academic achievement and athletic progress. Coaching sessions will look to develop players’ core skills and game understand-ing. The conditioning programme will consist of strength & power training, core stability, endurance and anaerobic development as well as speed and agility. In addition to training there is a competitive programme on Wednesday afternoons along side opportunities for players to represent their club sides at the week-ends.
