A Message From COMMISSIONER OF AGRICULTURE

Welcome to the Collier County Fair Beyond the fun, food and fellowship, our local fairs reach more than five million people each year with opportunities to engage in agriculture. Florida fairs provide an excellent platform for us to show-case the finest Fresh from Florida produce, livestock and poultry our state has to offer, as well as how advancements in technology are being utilized to make Florida agriculture second to none.

Exhibits and livestock shows provide a tremendous opportunity for Florida’s youth to demonstrate their skills in agriculture and for others to learn about the industry’s impact as one of the state’s eco-nomic pillars and a chief supplier of our nation’s food. As Florida’s Commissioner of Agriculture, I am enthusiastic about the positive impact fairs and livestock shows have on the agriculture industry and the local community. While other industries have suffered during recent tough economic times, Florida agriculture continues to generate more than $100 billion in economic impact each year and em-ploy nearly one million people.

Continued momentum will likely depend on our youth and our fairs are a great way to cultivate the next generation of leaders. As we look forward to celebrating the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Florida, I hope you will find ways to make this a teachable moment about Florida’s rich history and its extraordinary agricultural heritage.

Sincerely,

Adam H Putnam Commissioner of Agriculture

DEPARTING SENIORS

Travis Hayden Travis has been in 4-H eleven (11) years and has showed hogs and steers. Travis played T-Ball and Little League growing up. He also enjoyed Pop Warner football and played basketball for two years in high school. He has been raised in the First Baptist Church in Immokalee where he cur-rently attends Youth Group and is an active member. Travis has always dreamed to become a firefighter, so he has plans to pursue that and attend Fire School. But if that for some reason does-n’t work out his back up plan would be to work at Florida Power and Light and be a line man like his dad.

Cheyenne Hunter Bechtol You are a beautiful, caring young lady (inside & out). I pray that you NEVER give up on your dreams and your passions. I want you to be able to do the things you LOVE and find joy and bless-ings in everything you seek. Enjoy the journey life brings your way. For me, being your mom has brought me so much joy and many blessings.

Love Mom

Celeste Dempsey This young lady is a senior at Estero High School, member of the cheerleading team, and also sec-retary of County Line 4-H. Helping people in any way she can has always been something she is known for. After she graduates she plans to go into the nursing field to pursue her medical dreams. We have seen her grow throughout 4H; keeping to her responsibilities, being a good role model and influence for the younger members in the group, going above and beyond to help the group with all activities, and doing a great job raising her pig Oreo. We can't express how proud we are of all her hard work and how excited we are to see what the future withholds for this Incredible girl. Never give up on your dreams! We love you

Mom, Jason, Chelsea, and David.

Travis Brown Travis Brown is a senior a Palmetto Ridge High School. Travis is a member of Family Traditions 4-H Club and has been showing at the Collier County Fair since the age of 5. Over the years Travis has set aside money from his hog projects to be able to open a pool cleaning business. In 2012, Travis with the help of his dad, uncle, and brother started Southern Pools Service, a pool cleaning business. Travis is also a member of Peace Lutheran Church and attends New Hope Ministries Youth Group. Upon graduation Travis is going continue with his pool business and current job at Palmera Golf and Country Club while he plans for his future.

THEM HAMILTON BOYS were officially formed June 2011. The band consists of Doug Meier (Drums), Joe Garita (Bass Guitar), Nick Hamilton (Rhythm Guitar & Vocals), and Hayden Hamilton (Lead Guitar & Vocals). This local band is based out of Naples, FL. Them HAMILTON BOYS are known for their south-ern rock, blues, country, and classic rock. They play both covers and original music. Check them out on Facebook for more information, and to listen to their music

THE SWEENEY BROTHERS BAND—A Country Comedy Revue is based out of Orlando, FL. They travel all over the USA bringing their downhome-backwoods comedy and music to fans everywhere. They are a 100% crowd pleaser at any event. Join Slim Sweeney and his identical twin brothers , Skeeter and Little Buck as they sing, play and keep everyone in stitches with a knee slappin', foot stompin' good time. They have been very popular over the United States with their simple minded, back to the roots coun-try fun! Audiences of ALL AGES and backgrounds enjoy this one-of-a-kind show! You don't have to be a country music fan to enjoy this show! Take a little Hee Haw, add a couple of pinches of The Smothers Brothers, sprinkle in a little Beverly Hillbillies, mix in with The Andy Griffith Show and The Grand Ole Opry, simmer over down home hu-mor.....and soon you'll have a banquet of fun!

Presented by the Sensational Murcia Family, PIRATES OF THE COLUMBIA CARIBBEAN is your typical "good" pirates against the "bad" pirates; however, this all takes place suspended on a thin wire cable 30 feet in the air over the top of a huge pirate ship! This is when you see over 30 years combined experience of the Sensational Murcias on the high wire. Watch as they execute various daring feats, acrobats and tricks on the ½ inch steel cable, such as sword fighting, the dangerous two man high, actually skipping rope and the finale trick you have to see to believe! Also included in the action is the Wheel of Destiny. As the giant wheel spins the pirates jump, somersault and sword fight all while it is rotating on its axis!

LADY HOUDINI aka Kristen Johnson, almost seems fearless even to the fault of flirting with death. She has a knack for taking an ordinary escape and putting her signature brand on it. Her mind bending es-capes will ensure that the Lady Houdini show will be the talk of the fair! Kristen, a real escapologist, has carved out a living performing her daredevil brand of escapes around the world, live and on TV. When first asked to perform the aerial straitjacket escape which Houdini so often used to promote his theater shows, she said, ”sure, but in its original form is boring and anticlimactic for today’s audience. After all, Houdini was able to escape the jacket but not the circumstances that had him still hanging upside down in mid-air, of which he would have to be lowered back to the ground and released”. Kristen says to com-pletely and successfully escape you not only have to remove the restraint but also escape from the cir-cumstance of being hung mid-air. In 2007, Kristen once again set out to ‘best’ Houdini’s escape and for over three years whether outside with a crane at 80 feet high or inside an arena at 40 feet above the stage and even in theaters, hung from battens, she would drop the jacket, remove her feet from the rope loops and repel down.

"Sea Lion Splash" is an exciting and one of a kind traveling sea lion exhibit. Squalus Inc. was first established when Marco Peters began adopting and providing a home for sea lions who were unable to survive in the wild because of sickness, age, or injuries. Marco's passion for sea lions led him to educate the public on the need to coexist with these special marine mammals in harmony. Thus, began the journey of the Sea Lion Splash

Feel the clash of metal, and hear the cries of battle. An array of authentic equestrian games. High energy real life battles, vivid, raw ground to horse take downs, and the sheer excitement of a full contact joust. An action packed, Hollywood worthy Tourna-ment, the Dark Knights are truly the heavy-weights of medieval warfare.

The Show-me Swine Racers are always a crowd pleaser! Pig racing includes three different species, each running a separate heat race during each show. Get ready to be entertained by the comedy of this world racing team as they race to the finish for a treat.

Combining the rare skills of excel-lent trainers and the incredible in-stincts of the wild as well as domes-tic animals with which they have become friends, Kevin and Martina will delight and amaze their audience with fun, education and great enter-tainment for the whole family. “Wild about Monkeys” is the only traveling animal exhibition that features trained baboons. The Mandrill ba-boon is the only one of his kind to be safely and humanely handled on stage today.

Knights For Christ, K4C did not even realize that it came into existence during the sum-mer of 2008. It first began as a youth project to create a song. Sammy Rigaud and Dawenn Dorgile were responsible for writing it and putting the music together. They asked Nixon Joseph to join them on this small project and wouldn't you know it?! The song, Shine My Light was a hit! Well, one masterpiece led to another, and eventually K4C started featur-ing for events and shows. It wasn't long after that the band started creating their first album, Electric Gospel, Today K4C has launched two English albums, Electric Gospel and The Proclamation. They also have two Creole albums, Lakay and the most recent, Nouveau Di-mension. Let's not forget about their annual White Out Concert. Every year, since 2008 the band has thrown this concert right before school starts to get the kids in the commu-nity pumped up about Jesus. This band is certainly defined by their dynamical efforts to get all people in tune with the gospel of Jesus, Our Savior.

LIFE’S NOT “FAIR” Fundraiser and Silent Auction

On Thursday, March 20, 2014 the Fair Board will be hosting the Fourth Annual Cancer Fundraising and Silent Auction event at the Collier County Fair to benefit people who are faced with circumstances This year “Salute to Heroes” will provide our dona-tors and sponsors with more exposure and larger crowds. We decided to host the event on the second Thursday which corresponds with the health and well-ness day at the fair. We will team up with other local charities such as the American Cancer Society and the Blood Mobile to maximize our fundraising poten-tial. The majority of our efforts will focus on raising money through silent auctions, donations, and spon-sorships. Contributions at last year’s event helped the Fair Board to raise approximately $2,400. With the support and generosity of our community we hope to achieve our goal of $5,000 for this year’s event. For information on the event or becoming a sponsor please contact the Fair office at 239-455-1444.
