Congratulations to the 2018-19 CGA Educational Foundation College Scholarship recipients. This year, 378 scholarships totaling $678,750 were awarded to deserving students attending college this fall.
Beginning with a single scholarship in 1992, the Foundation has grown exponentially over the last 26 years to bestow more than 4,300 worthy college students with awards totaling in excess of $5.8 million – ensuring that California’s grocery employees and their dependents have the resources necessary to start or complete their higher education.
CGA Educational Foundation college scholarships are open to high school seniors, college undergraduates and graduate students who are dependents of employees or are themselves employed by a California Grocers Association member company.
Additionally, CGAEF and California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly San Luis Obispo) Agribusiness Department embarked on a partnership designed to help shape future generations of grocery industry professionals in a wide range of disciplines through support of Cal Poly’s Food Retail Management (CPFRM) Program.
As part of its commitment to recruit the next generation of grocery industry executives, the Foundation awarded scholarships to students that have completed a set of core classes in the CPFRM Program. CGAEF is pleased to introduce this year’s students who benefit from the partnership.

CGA Educational Foundation created the CGAEF Scholarship Endowment honoring their 25th anniversary of supporting the industry with financial assistance and educational opportunities. The endowment will perpetually award scholarships to grocery industry employees through an initial investment totaling $250,000 from Founders Circle Members: Acosta Sales & Marketing/Clorox, The Albertsons Companies Foundation, Alta Dena/Got Milk, Anheuser Busch, Coca-Cola, Frito-Lay, The Kellogg Company, Raley’s, Stater Bros. Markets Charities, Southern Glazers Wine & Spirits, and Unilever.
In honor of the CGAEF’s past and future Hall of Achievement inductees, the CGA Educational Foundation established the Legends of the Industry Scholarship as part of the Scholarship Endowment. This scholarship is an annual $10,000 scholarship awarded to one applicant who is pursuing a career in the grocery and/or grocery-related manufacturing industries.

IN HER WORDSI obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, emphasis in Management and Human Resources from Cal Poly Pomona in 2014. While in my studies, I took a deep interest in understanding and managing people, especially within the context of leadership. While at Food 4 Less, I completed the Retail Management Certificate and learned to apply what I had learned at Cal Poly Pomona in a more detailed and practical manner.
I have always been an advocate for higher education and will continue expanding my own education by starting a Master’s degree this Fall. The emphasis of my Master’s degree will be in academic counseling while also taking courses to begin a Master’s in Business Administration. My long-term goal is to continue with Food 4 Less as a trainer and afterwards move into a positon within human resources. I feel that I will be able to make a significant impact in employee retention by utilizing my counseling and business education to create business career goals for employees.
