A MAP for success Manyhighschoolstudentsdon’tconsidergoingtocollege.Thegoalseemstoodistant,theapplicationprocesstooconfusing,thecosttooexpensiveandtherewardstoounclear.AtEY,ourpeopleareworkingtoremovetheseobstacles.Wewanttoencouragestudentstoapplyforcollege,andhelpthemsucceedonce they get there.
ThroughCollegeMAP(MentoringforAccessandPersistence),wehelpdemystifytheprocessofapplyingto and affording college, encouraging students who might not have considered applying for college to do so.Thenweworkwithstudentstobuildtheskillsthatwillhelpthempersistincompletingtheirpost-secondary goals:
• ►Awarenessofthelifelongbenefitsofearningahighereducation
• ►Financialreadinessthathelpsstudentsapplyforaidandpayforcollege
• ►Persistenceskillstohelpstudentscompleteandsucceedincareers
Sinceitsstartin2009,CollegeMAPhashelpedcloseto800youngpeoplebyengaging560EYprofessionals as youth mentors in our communities.

The numbers don’t lie An education can mean the differencebetweenjustgetting byandsucceedinginlife.
• ►21%ofhighschoolseniorsfromthe lowest economic quintile are adequatelypreparedforcollege-levelwork(somewhat,veryorhighlyprepared)comparedwith54%ofgraduatesfrommiddleandupper levels.1
• ►30%ofstudentsinthebottomquarter of incomes enroll in a four-yearschool.Andamongthatgroup, fewer than half graduate.2
• ►26%oflow-income, high-performing students goontoearnbachelor’s degrees, compared with 30%ofhigh-income, low-performing students.3
• ►60%ofjobsintheUSwill requirepost-secondary educationby2018.4

How College MAP works Toimplementtheprogram,wecollaboratewithhighschoolsandanot-for-profitorganizationcalledCollegeForEveryStudent(CFES).Together,weidentifyyoungpeoplewhomostneedoursupportandbringCollegeMAPdirectlytothem.CFESbringsawealthofexperienceincurriculumdevelopmentandastrongnetworkofuniversityrelationshipstothetable.Weprovidevolunteermentorsinmorethan20majorcitiesacrosstheUS.
Mentoring in teams Volunteersworkinteams.TheprogrammatchessmallgroupsofEYprofessionalswithhighschooljuniorsandseniors.Theteam-mentoringmodelhasseveraladvantages:multiplementorsprovideinsightandguidancetothestudentsintheprogram,busyclient-servingprofessionalsareabletobalanceworkandalong-termmentoringcommitmentandthegroupofstudentsbecomesitsownsupportiveacademiccommunity.
Everybody wins CollegeMAPbenefitsthestudentsweserve,ourcommunitiesandourpeople:
Students. BeingapartofCollegeMAPoffersstudentsvaluableacademiccoachingandsupport.Overtheyears,we’veseen90%ofthestudentswhoparticipateinCollegeMAPgraduate high school and pursue higher education.
Communities. SchoolsreceiveEY’sprofessionalexperienceandsupport;thiscanbeacritical helping hand at a time when many school guidance counselors handle caseloads of morethan500students.Morebroadly,CollegeMAPlaysthefoundationforstudentstohavesuccessfulcareersaftercollege,whichultimatelywillbenefitourcommunities.
Our people.CollegeMAPletsourpeoplecreatepositivesocialchangewhiledevelopingandpracticingtheirprofessionalskills:demonstratingleadership,speakinginpublicandcollaboratingwithpeoplefromdiversebackgrounds.Eachmentoralsoreceivesintensivepre-mentoringtrainingandaccesstoarobustcurriculum,aswellasparticipatinginongoingmentoringwebcasts.EY’sannualGlobalPeopleSurveyfindsEYpeoplewhomentoraremoreengagedandtakegreaterprideinworkingatEYthantheirpeers.

College For Every StudentCollegeForEveryStudent(CFES)isanonprofitorganizationcommittedtoraisingtheacademicaspirations and performance of underserved youth so that they can prepare for, gain access to, and succeedincollege.Sinceitsfoundingin1991, CFEShashelped75,000underservedyouthin 700 schools nationwide, in partnership with regional colleges, strengthen academic performance, graduate from high school and go on to college.
