Rockin RobotsChildren learn about the uses of robots in our world, how they sense and move, and spend time programming robots and participating in robot relays. They discover the science of circuits and how robots use sensors to explore things around them. They build their very own working robot to take home with them!

Rockin Robots PlusCampers explore, use and program robots that do a variety of jobs as they learn about the history of robot design, how sensors work, and simple programming. They participate in robot relays, mazes, alternative energy sources (solar, wind, hydrogen), and have lots of hands on time with robots. Eureka! The Inventor’s CampCreative Contraption Warning! This is a camp designed by you-the Inventor! Each day you’ll be given a series of challenges which must be overcome using basic materials, simple machines, tips from world famous inventors and the most important thing of all your mind. With a little bit of ingenuity you’ll construct catapults and forts and then lay siege, fabricate a winning Egg Drop design, construct a dancing robot and assemble a working light saber to take home. While Thomas Edison said invention is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration, this camp is 100% fun! 3,2,1 BlastoffThis action packed week will focus on rockets and the physics of rocket flight. After learning the model rocket safety code, campers will build several different types of rockets and participate in the launching of multiple different rockets during the week long program. Children will be divided into three groups; altitude trackers, launch preparation and launchers for all rocket launches and will get the opportunity to try all three roles. Claws, Codes and ComosSpend the week with Mad Science exploring the “awesomeness” that is science! Discover how to send secret messages to your friends using special codes. Become a young astronaut for a day while exploring the mysteries of the solar system. The Wright StuffFrom the earliest flying machines to the first rocket flights, hands-on program will give children a bird’s eye view of the history and science of flight. Your child will build many different flying devices and explore the science of aerodynamics and flight with the help of Newton’s laws. Then we’re heading out of the atmosphere with a look at rockets and our galactic neighborhood!

Minecraft® ModdersUse your favorite game to learn the basics of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods! Kids Photoshop Learn to use the powerful tools and capabilities of Photoshop Elements. Create cool effects including skin smoothing, eye color changes and filter effects (think Instagram) and, overall, make your snapshots look professional! Video Game AnimationDive into making sprites move around and animate in a video game! Take your game design to the next level by creating and animating your own character sprites, objects, and backgrounds. Students do not need any prior experience in game design, animation, or sketching.

Pet First Aid and Pet CareYou love your pets and want to keep them happy – providing a healthy lifestyle and being prepared to deliver first aid care for your pet is the best way to do that! Students will learn the basics in caring for cats and dogs through a variety of topics – from understanding and checking your pet’s vital signs, to preventative care for cats and dogs, to caring for the most critical emergency situations - including breathing and cardiac emergencies, wounds, bleeding, and seizures. Maybe you don’t have a pet yet but are thinking about getting one, learn what you should look for and what makes a good pet over not such a good pet.

Kids Horseback Riding CampFor school age children 6-17. All skill levels welcome. Youth will be placed in groups depending on their skill set. Each morning will start with a continental breakfast and a film about horses. We will have a brief discussion about safety and education about horses. Youth will groom the horses that will be used for leading. We will learn how to groom, lead, lunge line, ride and drive a horse. This camp includes a craft, scavenger hunt, and games. Lunch will be served.

A WORD ABOUT WAITING TO ENROLL:Every class has a minimum required enrollment. If this minimum is not met prior to the starting date, the class will be canceled. If you find a class you like, encourage a friend to join, too. Sometimes two or three people make the difference between “go” and “cancel.”

ENROLLMENT VERIFICATIONWe will send an email confirmation of enrollment. We will notify you if a class which you are enrolled in has been canceled or is rescheduled.

REFUND POLICYOur instructors are paid from fees collected, so we must guarantee a minimum enrollment to schedule a class. If it becomes necessary for you to withdraw from a class, please contact the college at 814.604.3011 at least five business days prior to the class start date to request a refund, minus a $5.00 processing fee. No refunds will be made for withdrawals fewer than five business days prior to the start of the class.

CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENTS/PARKINGClassroom assignments will be provided at check in. You may park in any area on campus designated as student parking.

SCHEDULE CHANGESThe information in this brochure is based on conditions at the time of printing and is subject to change. Classes may be canceled, combined or added, and instructor assignments, dates, times and or/locations may be changed at the discretion of the Community Education administration.

CANCELLATIONS DUE TO WEATHERWhen Metropolitan Community College District cancels classes, your College for Kids class will not be held. Please be sure to listen to TV or radio announcements for cancellations. If you are unsure, you may call the college at 816.604.1000.
