Transcript of College Basketball players deserve to be paid
STATUS QUO: CHANGE IS NEEDED
OUR GOAL/PURPOSE
Our goal is to spread awareness about how college basketball
(NCAA) players do not get paid in anyway despite how much
money the NCAA brings in and how much the coaches are paid.
We believe this is unfair to the players and it needs to be changed
BUSINESS TELEVISION:
CONFERENCES:
• T.V. companies such as CBS and turner broadcasting generate over a billion dollars annually from broadcasting only college basketball games.
• The NCAA, in 2010, signed a $10.8 billion deal to broadcast the men’s NCAA basketball tournament
• The NCAA also charges a price of $700,000 for only a 30 second ad in the Final Four of NCAA March Madness tournament.
• The NCAA gives the athletic conferences millions of dollars when a team from said conference advances deep into the March Madness tournament.
• The executives of these conferences also are paid close to a million dollars annually
SO MUCH BUSINESS… YET NO MONEY?
The NCAA has great amounts of money coming in from broadcasting and athletic conferences alone and is continually booming with business, yet, they claim to be a non-profitable organization. CLEARLY, this is not true.
Without the help of the players attracting a huge audience, T.V. companies would lose a lot of money, athletic conferences would make almost slim to none, while executives would be left jobless.
Why is it that all this money is coming in to the organization yet they claim they cant pay the athletes (who are the ones responsible for the revenue being produced) because they are a non-profitable organization.
…..Do you think that's fair?
COACHES• College coaches are paid huge amounts by their
Universities.• EXAMPLES: 2015-coach John Calipari was paid $6,356,756 2014-coach Mike Krzyzewski was paid $9,682,032 2014-coach Rick Pitino was paid $5,758,338
2014-coach Bill Self was paid $4,960,763• Its clear from these examples that college coaches get paid
huge amounts
If coaches are making this kind of money, why aren't the players? After all, without the players these coaches wouldn’t even have a job in the first place.
So why shouldn’t the players get paid too?
MERCHANDISE/SALES• Today, NCAA College Basketball players are recognised all
around the world.• The NCAA uses the players big names to produce revenue
for themselves.• Jerseys, advertisements and even video games use the
players big names to attract customers and sell products to bring in money
All this merchandise is sold to people all around the world bringing in big amounts of money. Yet, the players are not being compensated for any of this, no matter how much money is made. How is it fair to these players that their names and fame are being used to make so much money for the NCAA but are not getting paid for anything?
PLAYERS CALCULATED VALUE

After some research we found this chart that shows what the players are arguably
worth and how much they should be getting paid.
TO CONCLUDE…
After doing further research on the economics of NCAA Basketball, it is clear that with all this money coming into the association, the NCAA basketball players should be paid. The players’ calculated value is very high, yet they don’t get paid anything. Furthermore, if the coaches are being paid huge amounts, why shouldn’t the players? Also, the players’ names are used by the NCAA to generate money, Is it right for the players to not be compensated for this? They say it’s a privilege to play in the NCAA for the players… but then couldn’t you say it’s a privilege to coach in the NCAA as well…?
