College and Career Readiness
High School GraduationReview over your Progress Toward Graduation (PTG):
● 24 credits are required to graduate from Granite Connection High School ● 14 or more credits are needed to be on track
○ Talk to your counselor if you are not on track to graduate
The Learning Lab will be open in the summer :

Utah CTE Career Pathways● Career and Technical Education
(CTE) creates Pathways for all secondary students by providing them with the technical skills and academic knowledge needed to prepare for future employment and/or a successful transition to postsecondary education.

○ Associates, Bachelors, Masters, and PhD Degrees○ E.g., University of Utah, Utah Valley University, Brigham

College Applications● College Applications are completed online● School Counselors will work with you to complete
application in the Fall and during Utah College Application Week (UCAW)
● Start researching colleges/universities that will be a good fit for you:○ Do they have the program you are interested in?○ Does the location work with your housing and
transportation plans?○ How much will it cost (e.g., tuition and fees)?○ What are the graduation rates?
Salt Lake Community College (SLCC)● If you plan on attending SLCC make sure to
start planning early● What do you need to apply to SLCC?
○ Driver’s License or State ID○ Social Security number○ $40 application fee○ Proof of Graduation (e.g., high school
diploma, official copy of high school transcript).

Paying for College● Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
○ Grants: money for education that does not need to be paid back○ Student Loans: money that you borrow and must be paid back with interest○ Work Study: work on campus to help pay for college costs
● We will start working on the FAFSA in October and throughout your senior year○ FAFSA Nights will be held during Parent Teacher Conferences

matched with scholarships● Utah Promise Scholarship
○ Covers tuition and fees for up to two years○ If you receive a Pell Grant, you qualify ○ At SLCC this scholarship covers full tuition
