Fabula Living
Fabula Living has established itself as an international
design company deeply rooted in traditional tech-
niques, craftsmanship, uncompromising quality and
Danish design. We aim to tell stories with our modern
rugs by bringing together design, tradition and simp-
le style with the oriental techniques. It’s this behind
the scenes creative process that makes the designs
stand out. Fabula Living is much more than modern
interior design. The careful selection of wool, linen,
cotton and other raw materials and shades of colour,
the passion and patience, the thickness and the de-
tails in the weaving are present like invisible threads
in all our rugs.

Mogens Koch+ Fabula Living
In 1959, the Danish architect Mogens Koch (1898-1992) designed
a rug with a beautiful square pattern. It was one of many which his
wife Ea, a weaver, wove by hand in limited editions for individual
customers. From their living room she produced between 300
and 400 rugs, some of which are still in the family’s possession,
while others are sought-after vintage objects.
Flash forward to 2019, and this unique contribution to Danish
design history comes to life again, marking the beginning of a
collaboration between Mogens Koch and Fabula Living.
The designer Jens Landberg Schrøder browsed through old fol-
ders containing Mogens Koch’s sketches, and from among sixty
different designs he selected one from 1959. Together with Koch’s
son he chose the name Ea for the rug, after the designer’s wife.
Manufacturing this creation of an iconic architect and designer
from the golden era of Scandinavian design enhances the
heritage of Fabula Living’s own story.
Mogens Koch’s works have a wide scope: from design and
restoration of churches and other buildings, to silver, furniture
and textiles. Best known are his famous book cases and folding
chair, which define his legacy. His archives contain many other
works worthy of a revival; while Fabula Living launches the Ea
rug other manufacturers are re-introducing other old pieces,
among these a lamp.
With his meticulous attention to detail and mathematical focus
Mogens Koch was a master of stringent, pure, practical design.
His works are classics from a time when Danish cabinetmakers
created objects of timeless functional beauty. Each detail has a
purpose and there is no superfluous decoration.
Fabula Living works in this same spirit, creating modern rugs and
continually refining materials and processes. Ea has provided
an opportunity to promote our uncompromising passion for
quality and fine craftsmanship.

Collection 2019REFINED HERITAGE
The focal point of the new collection is heritage. Fabula Living is launching an
original mid-century design by the iconic Mogens Koch. Angular aesthetics,
Danish design heritage and modern craftsmanship comes together in Ea.
Strong and subtle, the beautiful old geometric graphic design is brought to
life in a sublime quality of the finest New Zealand wool balancing harmony
and contrasts. A gentle colour palette of beige, charcoal, green, and ocean
brings out the essence of Mogens Koch’s timeless designs, which were usu-
ally created in more subdued shades.
The 2019 collection also features four new designs by Lisbet Friis and Jens
Landberg Schrøder. The designs named Lily, Bellis, Ask and Rolf continue
to build on the passion to enrich homes with the very best craftsmanship,
materials and pared down Scandinavian aesthetic.
The tribute to nature is gaining momentum with pure natural coloured
wool, and several designs in green shades. Tones like marble and oriental
red inspired by gemstones bring a touch of the magical and sumptuous
luxury into the collection.

Hand-loom pile rug in Gabbeh-dyed New Zealand wool and linen on cotton warp
160x230, 200x300 cm
Made to measure
The uniqueness of this hand loom pile rug stems from a determined process of attention
to every single detail. The quality of the New Zealand wool is outstanding and the many
experiments mixing wool and a little bit of linen for contrast has resulted in a thicker and
more exclusive rug. The linen adds a stylish lustre and a gentle Gabbeh-dye brings the soft
shimmering in the pile. The choice of nature inspired colours completes the soft and
exclusive design, which is versatile and makes an impact in any room.

Bellis is the new generation of Erica; a thicker, reversible rug in gabbeh-dyed New Zealand
wool available in four different colours resembling the changes of the sky throughout a day.
From soft, beautiful nude like a rose quartz gemstone to a twilight charcoal grey. All very
different colours yet they all have the same depth and tone and work harmoniously
together in a room or throughout the house. Up close, the weave reveals tiny dots bringing out
the beauty in the colours, which from a distance blur together into a more monochrome shade.

With a clean and simple design and pure wool in its natural white, grey and charcoal hues,
this hand-woven rug is a step back to nature. The wool is undyed and the subdued life
in the tones and textures comes from nature’s own beautiful imperfection. The Rolf rug
meets a strong desire for natural and sustainable design. The thick quality makes it a very
durable rug with the added bonus of being reversible, which can double the life span.

Hand-woven rug in Gabbeh-dyed New Zealand wool on cotton warp

An inviting play with patterns guided by a carefully selected palette of strong calming indigo,
deep midnight blue and two new shades of moss green and grey with notes of blue and black
make this hand-woven rug in New Zealand wool a beautiful design classic. Quietly saluting
the Swedish rag rugs, Veronica brings an instant feel of style and comfort to a room. Like the
sister designs of Iris and Myrtus, this is a simple, contemporary style with refined pattern and
a three-dimensional visual effect thanks to the special Gabbeh-dye technique.

FagusDesign Lisbet Friis
Woven rug in paper yarn with 3 mm woolen felt backing
170x240, 200x300, 250x350 cm
With exquisite simplicity and natural material, the Fagus design brings a breeze of nature
into the home. The fine natural feel has been amplified by using only neutral hues as grey,
charcoal, nature and beige. Woven with paper yarn on a felt back, this rug has a very
refined and flat surface with a lively shadow effect in the weave. Being able to weave with
one strong thread, makes this rug extremely strong and practical.

BetulaDesign Lisbet Friis
Woven rug in paper yarn with 3 mm woolen felt backing
170x240, 200x300 cm
Simple and natural. The perfect weave and the understated natural beauty created
when weaving with paper yarn is manifested in the Betula design. This durable
and natural material, also used in the Ulmus and Fagus lines, makes the subtile,
natural colours come out very matte, dry and as close to nature’s as possible.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS – RUGS OF WOOL, LINEN AND VISCOSE
Daily cleaning:Vacuum the rug as needed. Never vacuum the rug with the brushes of the vacuum cleaner nozzle in the extended position.
You can also give the rug a gentle shake outside. Do not beat the rug. Spot cleaning, only woolen rugs:Dab the spot very gently with a damp cloth soaked in carbonated water. More thorough cleaning:
We recommend professional cleaning.
UnderlayStructure: PES/Glass fibre yarn coated on both sides with a
special anti-slip PVC-foam.

sound insulation and protects your rug from premature wear.

3 months full drying time before using this product. Only
suitable on floorings treated with solvent-free sealants. No
adhesion when wet. Thickness app. 2.5 mm.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS – RUGS OF PAPER YARN
Vacuum cleaning is normally sufficient for cleaning the carpet. Never vacuum your rug with the brushes of your vacuum cleaner nozzle in the extended position.
This carpet has undergone water and stain resistant treatment.Coffee spills or other liquid spills should be removed immediately with a soft cloth, towel or napkin.
Since these rugs are made of special paper suited for home use, you can even use a small amount of cleaning solution (no bleach or detergent) and little water (not hot) to clean the spot. Food stains can be carefully scraped off with a sharp object, such as a table knife. Be careful not to damage or cut the paper twine.
Airing the carpet:
Do not beat or shake the rug. Simply lay it out on a flat surface.
We always recommend using an underlay to extend the life of the rug. An underlay ensures that the rug remains in a fixed position and reduces the risk of any staining. Most of our kilim
rugs are reversible. We recommend that you turn the rug over every six months. Do not place the rug in direct sunlight.
