Whatexactlyisacollectable,andwhatpurposedoesitserve–towhom?Collectionscanconsistofgenerallyanything,andareadominantfeatureinAmericanculture.PeoplecollectMovies,Music,
Books,Toys,Art,Clothing,Knick‐Knacks,Quotations,Images,andEverydayObjects.However,evenifanitembelongstoacollection,itisnotacollectableunlessitwasinitiallydesignedtobecollected.

Forthenext9weekswewillbecompletingaseriesofprojectscenteringaroundthecreationofaproductlineofcollectables.Therewillbefivekeypartstothisexploration:
Week1‐SketchbookExploration:Brainstorming,sketches,andreflectionswelldocumentedwithin
yoursketchbook.Surfwebsites,findimages,andtakepicturestoincludeinyoursketchbook.Youwillhaveanentireweektobrainstorm,andIexpecttoseeseveralwellthoughtoutideas.Minimum10
pages.Attheendofweek1,youwillpitchyourideasforapproval.Remember,youwillbeworkingwiththisideafor9weeks,sotakethispreliminarybrainstormingseriously.(10%offinalgrade)
Week2‐ProductLine‐Up:Youwillcreateaposterofhand‐renderingsof10uniqueitemsforyour
collection.Thisrenderingshouldbeincoloredpencilorpen,andshouldexhibitcleanlinesandgood
craftsmanship.Theproductsshouldbedrawnnearlife‐sizeandtakeathreedimensionalshape.Thispostershouldlookasthoughyouarepresentingacollectionproposaltoacompany.(10%offinalgrade)
Weeks3,4,&5‐ProductManufacturing:Choose3ofyourcollectabledesignstophysicallycreate.Youwillhavecompletefreedomofmaterials,butIrecommendthatyouconsiderusingmaterialsthatarereadilyavailabletoyouinclasssuchasclay,acrylicpaint,andfabricscraps.Youareresponsiblefor
bringingallothermaterialstoclass.Youwillhave3weekstocompletethisprocess,andyouareexpectedtousealloftheallottedtime.Ifyourobjectsrequirelesstimetomake,Irecommendmaking
morethanthree.Thecompletedcollectablesarethelargestportionofyourgrade.Makesureyourproductisofthehighestlevelofcraftsmanship,becauseyouwillbeusingittocompletethefinaltwoportionsoftheproject.(30%offinalgrade)
Week6&7‐ProductAdvertizing:Youwilldesignbothamagazineadvertisementandthepackaging
foryourproduct.Themagazineadwillincludebothoriginaltextandoriginalimages.Youmaytake
photographsorillustrateyouroriginalimages.ThefocusforbothyourpackagingandadvertisementshouldbeAIDA‐Attention,Interest,Desire,Action.Itisrecommendedthatboththeadvertisementandthepackagingarecompleteddigitally,particularlytheadditionoftext.(20%offinalgrade)
Week8&9‐ReachingaLargerAudience:Thefinalportionoftheproductiscreatingashortfilm
advertisement–30secondsmaximum,uploadingittoyoutube,andimbeddingitintoanoriginalproductwebpage.Thepageshouldactasbothawebsitedevotedtoyourcollectibleandasaprojectportfoliowithimagesofallyourwork.Includeimagesofyousketchbook,poster,products,
advertisement,andpackaging.(20%offinalgrade)
Thefinal10%ofyourgradewillbeassessedbyclassparticipationandcritiqueparticipation.

materialsareyourresponsibilitytobringtoclass.Ifyouintendtopaintorcoverfiredclayworksbesuretomovealongquicklysothatthepieceshaveadequatetimetodryandbefired.Trytobedonewiththeclayconstructionwithinthefirstweek.
