DRH-Asia Project: DRH Links+A single DRH can not solve everything. +We need links to other relevant initiatives.

+They need to be based on synergetic relation among relevant initiatives.

• Knowledge sharing and common solution identification among experts in disaster sciences should be encouraged,

• Sound knowledge and good data are the basis of effective disaster reduction planning,

• Infrastructure to gather, store and exchange data should be enhanced,

• Construction of databases and networks to transfer knowledge and skills are critical, and

• Right to access information on hazards, risks and effective measures should be clearly set out in policy and law.

IPDR-WS: Rationale* Purpose: To provide a forum for a synergetic

framework among existing and emerging initiatives for information platforms on disaster reduction (IPDR).

* Notion:+ Various disaster reduction information platforms have

been established or being developed+ Contributing to disaster reduction purposes+ Individual initiatives are acting rather independently+ The IPDR Workshop is expected to enhance

understanding among them and promote collaboration.

*Keynote Speech: C. Duncan • Five key issues of information management

– Contents (user’s need and priorities)– Continuity (visual design, hierarchy, architecture)– Cut to the chase (linking up, usability testing)– Context (answer to the user’s questions)– Community (social design, messaging,

democratization)• Interface and interaction of designer and user• Issue of specific users and general users• Balanced mix of information management

and disaster risk specialties (Rajib Shaw, Session 3 Rapporteur)

WHEREAS, Participants in the International Workshop on Information Platforms for Disaster Reduction held at Tsukuba on 3-4 October 2007 are agreed that Information Platforms:

• Contribute significantly to integrated disaster risk management• Contribute to the goals of the Hyogo Framework for Actionand have recorded the Workshop in a Report,Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED that Information platforms:

• Are essential for and integral to disaster risk reduction• Should be developed and available in an Open manner• Should be supported with appropriate resources• Should be accessible and serve Users’ NeedsThese goals can be served by creating a network of information providers,

platforms and users, supported via regular meetings and communications.
