Keynote Speakers

Shawna HeiserTwenty years ago Shawna began her business, Special Learning 1-ON-1 LLC, which has expanded to service children, adolescents, and a few adults with a wide variety of special needs. Shawna’s specialty involves working with families of children and adolescents with behavior, communication, and developmental disabilities rang-ing from Autism to Attention Deficit Disorder. She currently consults with several different school districts, early childhood intervention programs across the state, and continues a private behavioral coun-seling practice. In private practice she shares office space with a Speech and Language Therapist and Occupational Therapist. In 2009, she became the 4th person in the state to receive a nationally recognized certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. She was trained by five of the top researchers in the field of Autism and is recognized as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in the state of Montana. She has background and specialized trainings: ABA intensive training, L.E.A.P project, Greenspan/Floortime, Pivotal Response Training, and ABA; C-BAM scales of assessment. Af-ter establishing her business, Shawna returned to the University in 2002 to share the experience and knowledge she has gathered since graduation with her Montana State University-Bozeman Psychol-ogy students as a Senior Lecturer. She teaches a variety of junior and senior level courses including Behavior Modification, Psychology of Learning, Advanced Behavior Analysis and Field Practicum/In-ternship. Her motto in servicing children is “Every Child Deserves an Opportunity for Independence”.

President Waded Cruzado

Waded Cruzado serves as the 12th President of Montana State Uni-versity. An inspirational speaker on the role of land-grant universities, she has become a well-known champion of the land-grant’s tripartite mission of education, research and public outreach.

President Cruzado received the 2011 Michael P. Malone Educator of the Year by the Montana Ambassadors for outstanding accomplishment, excellence and leadership in the field of education. In 2012, President Barack Obama appointed Dr. Cruzado to the Board for International Food and Agricultural Development (BIFAD), a seven member advisory council to USAID, whose primary role is to advise on agriculture, rural development and nutrition issues related to global food insecurity and the eradication of hunger in the world. She currently serves on the boards of the Higher Education Resource Services (HERS), as well as the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU).

Keynote Speakers

Alton Frailey, currently President of the American Association of School Admin-istrators, is a 33 - year veteran educator.

Frailey is the recently retired superintendent of the nearly 74,000-student Katy Independent School District, near Houston, Texas. He has served as superin-tendent of the DeSoto Independent School District near Dallas, Texas and as Superintendent of Schools for Cincinnati Public Schools in Cincinnati, Ohio.

A classroom veteran, Frailey began his career working with special needs and elementary aged students in Baytown, Texas. He served as a building princi-pal and in various central office positions in the Spring Branch Independent School District in Houston, Texas.

Frailey has held numerous professional elected leadership positions including President of the Texas As-sociation of School Administrators (TASA), President of the Urban Superintendents Association of America (USAA), and Texas Association of Suburban/Mid-Urban Schools TAS-MUS).

Frailey has served on numerous civic boards and in 1999 was elected to the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District Board of Trustees, which was selected as the 2002 Texas Honor Board.

Texas Governor Gregg Abbot recently appointed Frailey to the Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents.

Alton and his wife Anissa are the proud parents of three beautiful adult children-two of which are college graduates and gainfully employed. The youngest started college this fall on the Alton & Anissa Frailey four-year scholarship plan.
