LOAD OUT: A paid in full receipt will be required for load out. All animals must be removed from the holding site by 12 noon on Monday, February 10. If animals are not removed by the deadline, a $100 per head per day fee may be imposed until animals are removed. Online bidders need to make payment and transporta-tion arrangements prior to bidding!! Please be aware that health certificates for many of the animals will expire within a few days of the sale date. Should any further testing be necessary to move your animals, the owner will be solely responsible for costs and arrangements.

Our animals are culled for performance and reproductive traits. As calves our buffalo receive a full vaccination program including mycoplasma. All shots are boostered. Our herd is fueled by bulls from Sandy Limpert and David Lautt, with a few of our own bulls sprinkled in. Our cows have been rigorously culled based on performance and fertility for the last 24 years. Our cows are run on a grass diet year-round, providing the grass and the weather hold up. Range cake is used when needed and as a tool. Calves are weaned and finished in our own facilities. The cow herd at Skull Creek has undergone a complete mycoplasma vaccination program and to this point has remained mycoplasma free. The Girlz Going Wild yearling heifers were run in a 1,000-acre, isolated pasture during their time on the ranch. They had access to two fresh water tanks with three dams. Additionally, two spring fed creeks run right through the middle of the pasture and splits the 1,000 acres in half. The heifers were cake truck trained this summer so that we could run them back across the highway to the working facilities. They are a been there, done that group of heifers from a management aspect. They have been exposed to a couple of different cake trucks, utility vehicles, loaders, feed wagons and took it all in stride. These heifers came off grass in such good condition we didn’t want to push them on feed as we felt there is so much potential for growth in this group of heifers. There is also the desire to have a group of heifers that are ready to go to work after sale time. They were on a free choice hay and limited grain diet and were provided cake for mineral consumption. This is a fantastic set of heifers and will make a great addition to anyone’s herd.

The Young Guns bulls began arriving at Heartland Bison Ranch around the second week of April. They spent just over three weeks together, acclimating as a group before being processed to go to grass. During this time, the bulls had access to quality prairie hay, fresh water and 12 tons of pellets in two self-feeders to make sure they could recoup some of their weight lost during the move up to the ranch. On May 12, the bulls were weighed, retagged and given a 7-way and Dectomax wormer and moved out to pasture. While on pasture, the bulls had access to clean fresh water, ample grass and Redmond Mineral. By mid-July, we were once again experiencing drought conditions on the ranch. The bulls were rotating every seven to nine days through eight paddocks to ensure ample grass. In early August, lack of moisture dictated that we bring the bulls in earlier than anticipated. On August 18, the bulls were brought in off grass, wormed with Dectomax and weighed before beginning their feed test. The bulls were on grass 96 days, just nine days short of our 105 day target. On feed, the bulls began to really grow. We began to get a substantial amount of rain in September, fol-lowed by an October blizzard that left us with three feet of snow! We kept the bulls on high, dry ground in a large catch pen to keep them out of the mud. The hay for the bulls was all sourced from the same field and their pelleted ration was 14.1% protein with a mineral pack. The bulls gained well despite the wet conditions, and overall, the class almost mirrored what we did last year. On December 8, the feed test concluded at 112 days and the bulls were weighed to give us data to com-plete the performance scoring for Feed ADG and total gain for the class. The bulls were worked on January 7 for the sale. They were semen, TB and Brucellosis tested and given a wormer and mycoplasma shot. Since January 10, the sale bulls have been backed off their feed regiment to grass hay and some whole oat bales, ensuring they are ready to go to their new ranches. Overall, we believe that this group of bulls can help any type of producer put better genetics into their operations. The depth of quality in this class is exceptional and this will once again be the top sale in the nation for quality breeding bulls. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the consignors for once again trusting their animals in our care and to the DTBA for continuing to provide this format for buyers to have access to some of the best bulls to hit the market.
