CHAPTER I
PREFACE
1.1 Introduction
Wood has been an important construction material since humans began building
shelters, houses and boats. Nearly all boats were made out of wood until the late 19th
century, and wood remain in common use today in boat construction. Use of wood to
fulfill needs of daily life remains deeply embedded in the lives of people. Wood is a
natural material which is abundant and is very popular among the people of the world,
especially in developing countries such as Indonesia and Thailand. Based on data maps
of world on 2001, Indonesia is in top ten countries with most timber producing
countries.
The timber of living trees and freshly felled logs contains a large amount of
water, which often constitutes over 50% of the woods' weight. Water has a significant
influence on wood. Wood continually exchanges moisture or water with its surrounding,
although the rate of exchange is strongly affected by the degree wood is sealed. Drying
timber is one method of adding value to sawn products from the primary wood
processing industries. According to the Australian Forest and Wood Products Research
and Development Corporation (FWPRDC), green sawn hardwood, which is sold at
about $350/m3 or less, increases in value to $2,000/m3 or more with drying and
processing. However, currently used conventional drying processes often result in
significant quality problems from cracks, both externally and internally, reducing the
value of the product. For example, in Queensland (Anon, 1997), on the assumption that
10% of the dried softwood is devalued by $200/m3 because of drying defects, saw
millers are losing about $5 million a year. In Australia, the loss could be $40 million a
year for softwood and an equal or higher amount for hardwood. Thus, proper drying
under controlled conditions prior to use is of great importance in timber use, in
countries where climatic conditions vary considerably at different times of the year.
Fresh cut lumber contains a great deal of water. If the water is not removed, the
lumber cannot be used to produce a high quality finished product. Properly dried lumber
sells for a higher price and is much easier to work than lumber that has not been dried.
When lumber is dried right, it machines better, glues better, and finishes better. Drying
also improves the strength of the lumber, kills infestations, hardens pitch, preserves
color, reduces weight and controls shrinkage. Lumber that is not dried under controlled
![Page 2: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/2.jpg)
conditions is prone to warping, staining, and other degrade that diminishes its selling
price and workability. Take the example of a truck load of oak. Fresh cut oak weighs
about 5,4 kg/m2. So a truckload of 8 m2 so weighs about 43,2 kg. Once you remove
enough water to get the oak down to a moisture content of 6% - 8%, it weighs about 3.5
kg/m2. So that truckload now weighs 28 kg. That means that to completely dry a
truckload of 8 m2 of oak, you have to remove 15,2 kg of water. That’s why choosing the
right drying system and using the proper method are so important.
Conventional way of drying is most frequently used way of drying wood
because the kilns are technically very simple, even for large capacity kilns (over 100 m3
of timber). They do not require extra maintenance and electrical power consumption is
reduced by using wood wastes as fuel for boiler. There are two types of convention kiln,
Compartment Kiln and Progressive Kiln, which are different from the way to dry the
wood. In this research defined to analyze Compartment Drying Kiln and the energy
source is constant temperature from steam.
The airflow in the kiln chamber is very important. The velocity of the air over
the wood affects the drying rate and provides even drying. We should know air velocity
with the kiln manufacturer to be sure that the air velocity in the kiln will be adequate for
the species and thickness of the lumber we are drying and the type of kiln you are using.
The air velocity is depending on how we put the coil direction. Now, in Thailand there
are many company using coil verticality and another country using with different
direction. Generally, industries haven’t take attention about coil direction. Then, this
research would be analyzed which one is the best coil direction.

THEOREM
2.1 The Bernoulli’s Equation
![Page 4: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
The equation of motion are basic equation that will use to determine of air flow
or flow rate, these equation are very complicated. A somewhat similar situation occurs
in the motion of mass particles studied in mechanics. In this case under certain
circumstances the equation of motion of a particle can be integrated to result in a
statement about the kinetic energy and the potential energy of the particle. The resulting
equation is a limited form of the energy principle stemming from the more general first
law of thermodynamics. A completely equivalent situation occurs in the flow of fluids.
In the section to follow, the fluid equations of motion are integrated in space. At first
these equation are integrated only along a particular line in space. Later, as we shall see,
fewer restrictions are placed on this integration, provided that the flow has certain
properties. In all cases an “energy” equation result, which is most useful in physically
understanding the flow and its application to engineering. Alternatively, we could use
the first law directly to obtain these relations for one-dimensional flows; this approach
is most useful for compressible fluid flow. Most of material of the present chapter is
therefore restricted to incompressible fluids.
Even without the complication of viscosity the equation of motion are very
complex and are not capable of solution except in special cases. The reason for
difficulty is that they are nonlinear u ∂ u/∂ x, and so on. However, under certain
restriction the equation of motion can be integrated once, as a first example let us
consider the steady two-dimensional flow of an incompressible, inviscid fluid in the
absence of body forces. The Eulerian equation for this case are
u∂ u∂ x
+v∂u∂ y
=−1ρ
∂ p∂ x
u∂ v∂ x
+v∂ v∂ y
=−1ρ
∂ p∂ y
(2.1)
Since the Eularian equation with related to the velocity component and using
eliminated method by means of relation between u and v. In this case there is no
different height between two faces of tube, then we can determine of bernoulli’s
equation (ρ = constant).

Thus the pressure difference is a function of the flow rate, the density, and the areas. A tube of the type considered in this example is frequently used as a device to measure flow rates and it is called a Ventury Tube. However, for a real fluid that has
![Page 5: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
viscosity the flow rate calculated for given pressure difference must be multiplied by a correction coefficient.
We shall next include in the Eularian equation a special body force having the property that the force can be expressed as the gradient of a scalar function.

Where U is function of x and y. Such a force is said to be conservative force and U is called the force potential. We obtain the equation that takes into account the effect of the gravitational potential

Secondly, let us consider a more general case where body forces are present that are not conservative and, in addition, where shear and normal stresses arising from friction are also present. As in the preceding derivations, the equations of motion are to be integrated along a streamline. This is that the flow conditions downstream or after the flow process are always designated by 2 and those upstream or before by 1. Then the extended Bernoulli’s equation is

Each of these terms represent energy per unit weight and has the dimensions of length. M and h f are symbols for the pump work and friction loss, respectively, in these units. Each of terms in Eq. (2.5) has come to have a name in engineering practice. The Vertical coordinate y is called the elevation head. The quantity p/ρg is called the static pressure head and V 2/2 g is called the velocity head. The sum of the terms in
parentheses in Eq. (2.5) is often called the total head and is given the special symbol ht . The simply Eq. (2.5) is
ht 2=ht 1+M +h f (2.6)
2.2 Convection
Convective heat transfer, often referred to simply as convection, is the transfer
of heat from one place to another by the movement of fluids. Convection is usually the
dominant form of heat transfer in liquids and gases. Although often discussed as a
distinct method of heat transfer, convective heat transfer involves the combined
processes of conduction (heat diffusion) and advection (heat transfer by bulk fluid
flow).
![Page 6: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
The term convection can refer to transfer of heat with any fluid movement, but
advection is the more precise term for the transfer due only to bulk fluid flow. The
process of transfer of heat from a solid to a fluid, or the reverse, requires not only
transfer of heat by bulk motion of the fluid, but also diffusion/conduction of heat
through the still boundary layer next to the solid. Thus, this process with a moving fluid
requires both diffusion and advection of heat, a summed process that is generally called
convection. Convection that occurs in the earth's mantle causes tectonic plates to move.
Convection can be forced by movement of a fluid by means other than buoyancy
forces (for example, a water pump in an automobile engine). In some cases, natural
buoyancy forces alone are entirely responsible for fluid motion when the fluid is heated,
and this process is called natural convection. An example is the draft in a chimney or
around any fire. In natural convection, an increase in temperature produces a reduction
in density, which causes fluid motion due to pressures and forces when fluids of
different densities are affected by gravity (or any g-force). For example, when water is
heated on a stove, hot water from the bottom of the pan rises, displacing the colder
denser liquid which falls. After heating has stopped, mixing and conduction from this
natural convection eventually result in a nearly homogeneous density, and even
temperature.
The convection heat transfer mode is comprised to two mechanisms. In addition
to energy transfer due to random molecular motion (diffusion), energy is also
transferred by bulk, or macroscopic, motion of the fluid. This motion is associated with
the fact that, at any instant, large numbers of molecules are moving collectively or as
aggregates. Such motion, in the presence of a temperature gradient, contributes to heat
transfer. Because the molecules in aggregate retain their random motion, the total heat
transfer is then due to the superposition of energy transport by random motion of the
molecules and by the bulk motion of the fluid. It is customary to use the term
convection when referring to this cumulative transport and the term advection when
referring to the transport due to bulk fluid motion.
![Page 7: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Figure 1. Thermal Convection, constant viscosity
Convection is the transfer of thermal energy from one place to another by the
movement of fluids or gases. Although often discussed as a distinct method of heat
transfer, convection describes the combined effects of conduction and fluid flow or
mass exchange. Two types of convective heat transfer may be distinguished:
a. Free or natural convection
Fluid motion is caused by buoyancy forces that result from the density
variations due to variations of temperature in the fluid. In the absence of an
external source, when the fluid is in contact with a hot surface, its molecules
separate and scatter, causing the fluid to be less dense. As a consequence, the fluid
is displaced while the cooler fluid gets denser and the fluid sinks. Thus, the hotter
volume transfers heat towards the cooler volume of that fluid.[2] Familiar examples
are the upward flow of air due to a fire or hot object and the circulation of water in
a pot that is heated from below.
b. Forced convection
Fluid is forced to flow over the surface by an external source such as fans,
by stirring, and pumps, creating an artificially induced convection current.
Internal and external flow can also classify convection. Internal flow occurs
when a fluid is enclosed by a solid boundary such when flowing through a pipe. An
external flow occurs when a fluid extends indefinitely without encountering a solid
surface. Both of these types of convection, either natural or forced, can be internal or
external because they are independent of each other. The bulk temperature, or the
average fluid temperature, is a convenient reference point for evaluating properties
related to convective heat transfer, particularly in applications related to flow in pipes
and ducts.
![Page 8: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
For a visual experience of natural convection, a glass filled with hot water and
some red food dye may be placed inside a fish tank with cold, clear water. The
convection currents of the red liquid may be seen to rise and fall in different regions,
then eventually settle, illustrating the process as heat gradients are dissipated. The basic
relationship for heat transfer by convection has the same form as that for heat transfer
by conduction:
Q=h . A . ∆ t (2.7)
The convective heat transfer coefficient (h) is dependent upon the physical
properties of the fluid and the physical situation. Typically, the convective heat transfer
coefficient for laminar flow is relatively low compared to the convective heat transfer
coefficient for turbulent flow. This is due to turbulent flow having a thinner stagnant
fluid film layer on the heat transfer surface. Values of h have been measured and
tabulated for the commonly encountered fluids and flow situations occurring during
heat transfer by convection.
2.2.1 Natural Convection
Free convection, or natural convection, is a spontaneous flow arising from
non-homogeneous fields of volumetric (mass) forces (gravitational, centrifugal,
Coriolis, electromagnetic, etc.)
If density variation ∆ ρ is caused by spatial non-uniformity of a
temperature field, then a flow arising in the Earth gravitational field is called
thermal gravitation convection. The density variability may also result from non-
uniform distribution of concentration of any component in a mixture or from
chemical reactions, difference in phase densities or from surface tension forces at
the phase interface (in this case concentration diffusion or convection is implied).
![Page 9: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Figure 2. Development of tree convection boundary layer on surfaces
Free-convective flows may be laminar and turbulent. A flow past a solid
surface, the temperature of which is higher (lower) than that of the surrounding
flowing medium, is the most widespread type of free convection. Figures 2 and 3
schematically illustrate characteristic examples of free convection. At the
beginning of heating of a vertical surface (x=0) (Figure 2a) a laminar boundary
layer is formed. The layer thickness grows along the flow direction and at a
certain distance, corresponding to xc 1, the fluid flow becomes unstable changing
within the range from xc 1 to xc 2 from laminar to turbulent. To this character of
flow structure variation there correspond the changes in the coefficient of heat
transfer α x which in the case of the developed turbulent free convection remains
constant along the plate length where the characteristics of thermal turbulence
become statistically equal. The figure of free convection development in the flow
past a hot sphere or horizontal cylinder are qualitatively similar (Figures 2b and
2c). On bodies of large diameters (Figure 2c) a turbulent boundary layer develops
thus forming an ascending turbulent thermal plume in a trailing edge. From hot
bodies of small diameters a laminar thermal plume ascends (Figure 2b) which at
some distance from a body becomes turbulent. In narrow and closed cavities a
![Page 10: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
free convection flow is much more complex (Figure 3), due to the interaction
between near-wall fluid flows formed on the heat exchanging surfaces. On heating
one vertical wall (temperature T h) and cooling the other (temperature T c1) the
modes with a common fluid flow are possible through the entire cavity that
involve local secondary flows near vertical walls as is exemplified in Figure 2a by
free convection in a square cavity. A flow in narrow slots between parallel vertical
plates is formed in the form of periodic circulations (Figure 2b). In a horizontal
fluid layer between cold upper (T c1) and hot lower (T h) walls, the fluid flow has a
cellular form with hexagonal cells (Benard cells) in the center of which fluid
ascends from the hot surface to the cold one whereas in the periphery, it descends
(Figures 2c and 2d). Such a form of the fluid flow was first observed by Benard in
1901. With increasing heat flux the cells are destroyed and the flow converts to a
turbulent one.
Figure 3. Free convection in cavities
In the theoretical analysis of free convection flows and heat transfer the
laws of momentum, mass and energy conservation at certain boundary conditions
are used. The Boussinesq approximation of weak thermal convection is widely
applied, i.e., density deviations from a mean value are considered to be negligible
in all the equations, except for the equation of motion where they are taken into
account in the buoyancy force term. For small temperature drops in a flow the
relation ρ(T ) may be considered linear
![Page 11: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
ρ=ρ0 [1+ β (T 0−T ) ]where ρ0 is the fluid density at temperature T 0, β=−[∂ ρ /∂T ]p / p is the
volumetric coefficient of thermal expansion.
Numerical values of β are usually small (water: β=1.5 ×104, air:
β=3.5 ×103at T=273 K), therefore the density variation is taken into account
only in those cases where it affects the gravitational forces. The Boussinesq
approximation correlates the coefficient of volumetric expansion of a medium β
with the gravity acceleration g; they enter into the governing equations only as a
product. Physical substantiation of the Boussinesq approximation is based on the
smallness of accelerations in free convection flows as compared with the
acceleration due to gravity.
In natural convection situations, an important dimensionless group is the
Grashof number. To provide some physical significance to this group prior to
defining it, we use a simple order of magnitude estimate of the natural convection
velocity in the above examples. When fluid with a density ρmoves at a velocity V, the
kinetic energy per unit volume can be written as ½ρ V 2. This must come from some
other form of energy, namely, potential energy lost by the fluid. Over a vertical
distance L, the difference in potential energy between the less dense fluid in the
boundary layer and the more dense fluid outside it can be approximately expressed as
g ∆ ρ L, where g is the magnitude of the acceleration due to gravity, and ∆ ρ is a
characteristic density difference between the boundary layer fluid and that far away.
We can equate these two order of magnitude estimates, and neglect the factor of ½,
because this is only an order of magnitude analysis.
ρ V 2 ≈ g . ∆ ρ . L
Therefore, a typical order of magnitude of the velocity arising from natural
convection is. Let us define a Reynolds number for the flowing fluid using this order
of magnitude estimate.
ℜL=LVv
=√ ∆ ρρ
g L3
v2
ℜ2L=
∆ ρρ
g L3
v2
This is a dimensionless group that occurs often in natural convection
problems, and is given the name Grashof Number, abbreviated as Gr. The coefficient
of volumetric expansion of a fluid β is defined as
![Page 12: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
β= 1V ( ∂V
∂ T )P
= ρ∂
∂ T ( 1ρ )
P
=−1ρ ( ∂ ρ
∂T )P
∆ ρρ
=−∆ Tρ ( ∂ ρ
∂ T )P
=β ∆ T
So, we can finally rewrite the definition of the Grashof number as follows.
Gr= β ∆ Tg L3
v2
The Grashof number is related to the Reynolds number, and in heat
transfer, the Prandtl number plays a significant role. Therefore, in natural
convection heat transfer, we encounter another dimensionless group, called the
Rayleigh number, abbreviated by Ra, which is the product of the Grashof and
Prandtl numbers.
Ra=Gr . Pr ¿ β ∆ Tg L3
vα
Here, α is the thermal diffusivity of the fluid. The Nusselt number in natural
convection heat transfer situation is typically a function of the Rayleigh Number, the
Prandtl number, and aspect ratio parameter.
For a vertical heated plate of length L, Mills (1999) suggest using the
following correlation for the average Nusselt Number.
Nuaverage=haverage L
k
Nuaverage=0,68+0,670(Ra Ψ )1/4, for Ra≤ 109
Nuaverage=0,68+0,670(Ra Ψ )1/4 ¿, for 109 ≤ Ra ≤ 1012
In these equation ψ is function of the Prandtl number, defined as follows.
Ψ =[1+( 0,492Pr )
9/16]16/9
The reason for changing from one correlation to another when the Rayleigh
number exceeds 109 is that the natural convection boundary layer undergoes
transition to turbulence around that value of the Rayleigh number. Mills points out
that at Ra=109 the above two correlations do not coincide in their predictions. This is
fine, because that value of the Rayleigh number is an arbitrary cross-over point from
one correlation to the other. It is fine to use the second (turbulent) correlation for
Ra=109. As usual, physical properties should be evaluated at the arithmetic average
temperature between the plate and the ambient fluid.
![Page 13: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Comparison with vast experimental material indicates the fact that the
Boussinesq approximation well reflects the main specific features of thermal
gravitation convection in a wide class of real convective flows.
As is shown by experimental data, in many cases of free convection the
main variations of the characteristics of thermal and hydrodynamic fields are
concentrated in relatively narrow boundary layers near the heat transfer surface
where viscous forces are commensurable with inertial and volumetric forces. The
smallness of a boundary layer thickness as compared with characteristic
dimensions of bodies allows one to introduce additional simplifications into the
equations of motion and heat transfer.
The concept of a boundary layer is far more complex for free convection
than for forced convection, because thermal and hydrodynamic problems cannot
be treated separately due to the fact that the fluid flow is completely determined
by heat transfer. The main motive force (the difference between wall and
surrounding temperatures) noticeably manifests itself only in a thin near-wall
zone. This region of a temperature field with the thickness δT is called a thermal
boundary layer.
The difference of temperature in a boundary layer creates a volumetric
buoyancy force which causes motion. At the surface, the fluid is stationary (the
"no-slip" condition). With distance from a wall the velocity u gradually grows to a
maximum and then, under the effect of viscous friction, it vanishes (Figure 2a).
Beyond the limits of this dynamic boundary layer there is a region of inviscid
(potential) flow. The distance along the normal from the wall to the place, where
the velocity differs from zero by 1 per cent of the value of umax, is taken as the
dynamic boundary layer thickness δ .
When δT<δ, the motion outside the thermal layer, where the buoyancy
force is absent, is determined by the forces of dynamic and turbulent interaction
between separate fluid layers.
When δ <δT, outside the dynamic boundary layer and within the thermal
layer δT the flow may be considered as potential.
A flow in a boundary layer makes a main contribution into the transfer
processes, whereas the induced outer flow is secondary and provides only higher
order correction. This is the manifestation of the secondary effect of a boundary
layer on the flow in the surrounding medium.
![Page 14: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
It follows from the dimensional analysis that a relative boundary layer
thickness δ / x has the order of Gr−0.25, where Gr=gβ (T w – T ∞)x3/ ν2. At very large
Grashof numbers characteristic of practical applications of the free convection
boundary layer theory, the boundary layer thickness is usually very small
compared to the body size. Comparatively thick boundary layers take place for
media with small Prandtl numbers (Pr) and with small differences between the
body and surrounding temperatures.
In the Boussinesq approximation for an incompressible fluid and a steady-
state regime, the equations of momentum, mass and energy conservation for
laminar free convection in a plane boundary layer are as follows.
u∂ u∂ x
+v∂u∂ y
=gβ (T−T ∞ )+v∂2u∂ x2
∂ u∂ x
+ ∂ v∂ y
=0
u∂T∂ x
+v∂T∂ y
=a∂2 u∂ x2
The system of equations above allows the determination of the both
velocity components (u , v) and of the temperature field (T ) for various boundary
conditions.
To generalize the solution results or experimental data as well as to reduce
the quantity of problem parameters, similarity theory is used.
Some problem parameters are substituted by their combinations, the so-
called generalized variables. Their structure depends on the form of differential
operators entering into equation. We shall reduce the equations to the
dimensionless form. It is convenient to use the quantities entering into the un-
ambiguity conditions (boundary conditions) as the reduction scales. As a linear
scale we shall take some characteristic dimension of a body L, for a temperature it
is convenient to use, for instance, the relation θ=(T – T ∞) /(T w – T∞) , where T w is
the body surface temperature, T ∞, is the surrounding temperature, T is the local
temperature. The characteristic velocity may be obtained from the comparison of
volumetric and viscosity forces u0=βgΔT L2/ ν or from the estimates of the type
u0=L/τ0, where τ0 is the time scale.
The dimensionalization yields

The Grashof number Gr=βgΔT L3/ν2 is the main governing criterion and
the most important characteristic of free convection heat transfer. It is the measure
of the relation between the buoyancy forces in a non-isothermal flow and the
forces of molecular viscosity. It also determines the mode of medium motion
along the heat transfer surface. In its physical meaning, it is similar to the
Reynolds number for a forced flow.
At small Gr numbers a free convection flow is absent and heat transfer is
carried out by molecular thermal conduction. In particular, in a horizontal layer
(Figure 3c) this takes place at Raδ=Grδ Pr=βg (Th –T c)δ 3/νa ¿ 1708. When
Raδ=1708, the stability of a horizontal layer is disturbed and a free convection
fluid flow develops in the form of Benard cells (Figures 3c and 3d). At
Rax=Gr x Pr ≈ 109 on a vertical plate there takes place the transition from a
laminar to turbulent flow (Figure 2a).
Free convection heat transfer, similar to that under forced convection, is
characterized by the Nusselt number Nu=αL/ λ. This is usually an unknown
quantity since it involves the heat transfer coefficient α which should be found.
Thus, the dimensionless form of the heat transfer coefficient, Nu, depends on the
dimensionless numbersPr ,Grand the coordinate X=x /L (Gebhart, 1973).
2.2.2 Forced Convection
2.3 Flow Across Cylinder
Flow across cylinders and spheres is frequently encountered in practice. For
example, the tubes in a shell and tube heat exchanger involve both internal flow
through the tubes and external flow over the tubes, and both flows must be considered
in the analysis of the heat exchanger. Also, many sports such as soccer, tennis, and golf
involve flow over spherical balls.
![Page 16: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Figure 4. Typical flow patterns in cross flow over a cylinder
The characteristic length for a circular cylinder or sphere is taken to be the
external diameter D. Thus, the Reynolds number is defined as ℜ=V D /v where V is the
uniform velocity of the fluid as it approaches the cylinder or sphere. The critical
Reynolds number for flow across a circular cylinder or sphere is about ℜcr ≈ 2× 105.
That is, the boundary layer remains laminar for about ℜcr≲2× 105.
Cross flow over a cylinder exhibits complex flow patterns, as shown in figure.
The fluid approaching the cylinder branches out and encircles the cylinder, forming a
boundary layer that wraps around the cylinder. The fluid particles on the midplane strike
the cylinder at the stagnation point. The pressure decreases in the flow direction while
the fluid velocity increases.
At very low upstream velocities(ℜ≲1), the fluid completely wraps around the
cylinder and two arms of the fluid meet on the rear side of the cylinder in an orderly
manner. Thus, the fluid follows the curvature of the cylinder. At higher velocities, the
fluid still hugs the cylinder on the frontal side, but it is too fast to remain attached to the
surface as it approaches the top of the cylinder. As a result, the boundary layer detaches
from the surfaces, forming a separation region behind the cylinder. Flow in the wake
region is characterized by random vortex formation and pressures much lower than the
stagnation point pressure.
![Page 17: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Figure 5. Average draf coefficient for cross flow over a smooth circular cylinder and a smooth sphere (Schlichting)
The nature of the flow across a cylinder or sphere strongly affects the total drag
coefficient CD. Both the friction drag and the pressure drag can be significant. The high
pressure in the vicinity of the stagnation point and the low pressure on the opposite side
in the wake produce a net force on the body in the direction of flow. The drag force is
primarily due to friction drag at low Reynolds numbers ( ℜ>10 )and to pressure drag at
high Reynolds numbers( ℜ>5000 ). Both effects are significant at intermediate Reynolds
numbers
The average drag coefficient CD for cross flow over a smooth single circular cylinder
and a sphere are given in figure 7-17. The curves exhibit different behaviors in different
ranges of Reynolds number:
- For ℜ≲1, we have creeping flow, and the drag coefficient decreases with
increasing Reynolds number. For a sphere, it is CD=24 /ℜ. There is no flow
separation in this regime.
- At aboutℜ=10, separation starts occurring on the rear of the body with vortex
shedding starting at about ℜ=90. The region of separation increases with Reynolds
number up to about ℜ=103. At this point, the drag is mostly (about 95 percent) due
to pressure drag. The drag coefficient continues to decrease with increasing
Reynolds number in this range of 10<ℜ<103. (A decrease in the drag coefficient
does not necessarily indicate a decrease in drag. The drag force is proportional to the
square of the velocity., and the increase in velocity at higher Reynolds number
usually more than offsets the decrease in the drag coefficient.)
![Page 18: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
- In the moderate range of 103<ℜ<105. The drag coefficient remains relatively
constant. This behavior is characteristic of blunt bodies. The flow in the boundary
layer is laminar in this range, but the flow in the separated region past the cylinder
or sphere is highly turbulent with wide turbulent wake.
- There is a sudden drop in the drag coefficient somewhere in the range of
106<ℜ<106 (usually, at about 2 ×105). This large reduction in CDis due to the flow
in the boundary layer becoming turbulent, which moves the separation pint further
on the rear of the body, reducing the size of the wake and thus the magnitude of the
pressure drag. This is in contrast to streamlined bodies, which experience an
increase in the drag coefficient (mostly due to friction drag) when the boundary
layer becomes turbulent.
Figure 6. Turbulance delays flow separation
Flow separation occurs at about θ ≈ 80o (measured from the stagnation point) when the
boundary layer is laminar and at about θ ≈ 140o when it is turbulent. The delay of
separation in turbulent flow is caused by the rapid fluctuation of the fluid in the
transverse direction, which enables the turbulent boundary layer to travel further along
the surface before separation occurs, resulting in a narrower wake and a smaller
![Page 19: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
pressure drag. In the range of Reynolds number where the flow changes from laminar to
turbulent, even the drag force FDdecreases as the velocity (and thus Reynolds number)
increases. This result in a sudden decrease in drag of flying body and instability in
flight.
2.4 Heat Transfer Coefficient
Flow across cylinder and spheres, in general, involve flow separation, which is difficult
to handle analytically. Therefore, such flows must be studied experimentally or
numerically. Indeed, flow across cylinder and spheres has been studied experimentally
by numerous investigators, and several empirical correlation have been developed for
the heat transfer coefficient.
The complicated flow pattern across a
cylinder greatly influences heat
transfer. The variation of the local
Nusselt numberNuθ around the
periphery of a cylinder subjected to
across flow of air is given in figure 7-
22. Note that, for all cases, the value
of Nuθ starts out relatively high at the
stagnation point (θ=0o) but decreases
with increasing θ as a result of the
thickening of the laminar boundary
layer. On the two curves at the bottom
corresponding to ℜ=70.800 and
101.300. Nuθreaches a minimum at
θ ≈ 80o, which is the separation point
in laminar flow. Then Nuθ increases
with increasing θ as a result of the
intense mixing in the separated flow
region (the wake). The curves at the
top corresponding to ℜ=140.000 to 219.000 differ from the first two curves in that they
have two minima for Nuθ. The sharp increase in Nuθ at about θ ≈ 90o is due to the
transition from laminar to turbulent flow. The later decrease in Nuθ is again due to the
thickening of the boundary layer. Nuθ reaches its second minimum at about θ ≈ 140o,
Figure 7. Variation of the local heat transfer (Giedt)
![Page 20: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
which is the flow separation point in turbulent flow, and increases with θ as a result of
the intense mixing in the turbulent wake region.
The discussion above on the local heat transfer coefficient are insightful; however, they
are of little value in heat transfer calculations since the calculation of heat transfer
requires the average heat transfer coefficient over the entire surface. Of the several such
relation available in the literature for the average Nusselt number for cross flow over a
cylinder, we present the one proposed by Churchill and Bernstein:
Nucyl=hDk
=0,3+0,62 ℜ1 /2 Pr1 /3
[1+(0,4 /Pr )2 /3 ]1 /4 [1+( ℜ282,000 )
5 /8]4 /5
This relation is quite comprehensive in that it correlates available data well for
ℜPr>0,2. The fluid properties are evaluated at the film temperature T f =1/2(T ∞+T s),
which is the average of the free-stream and surface temperatures.
For flow over a sphere, Whitaker recommends the following comprehensive correlation:
Nusph=hDk
=2+[0,4 ℜ1/2+0,06ℜ2 /3 ] Pr0,4 ( μ∞
μs)
1 /4
Which is valid for 3,5 ≤ℜ≤80,000 and 0,7 ≤ ℜ≤ 380. The fluid properties in this case
are evaluated at the free-stream temperature T s, Although the two relations above are
considered to be quite accurate, the results obtained from them can be off as much as 30
percent.
The average Nusellt number for flow across cylinder can be expressed compactly as
Nucyl=hDk
=C ℜm Prn
Where n=13
and the experimentally determined constants C and m are given in Table 7-
1 for circular as well as various non-circular cylinder. This characteristic length D for
use in the calculation of the Reynolds and the Nusselt number for different geometries is
as indicated on the figure. All fluid properties are evaluated at the film temperature.
The relations for cylinder above are for single cylinders or cylinders oriented such that
the flow over them is not affected by the presence of others. Also, they are applicable to
smooth surfaces. Surfaces roughness and the free stream turbulence may affect the drag
![Page 21: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
and heat transfer coefficient significantly. Eq 7-37 provides a simpler alternative to Eq.
7-35 for flow over cylinders. However, eq. 7-35 is more accurate, and thus should be
preferred in calculations whenever possible.

2.5 Heat Transfer From Finned Surfaces
The rate of heat transfer from surface at a temperature T s to the surrounding medium at
T ∞ is given by Newton’s law of cooling as
Q̇conv=h A s(T s−T ∞)
Where A s is the heat transfer surface area and h is the convection heat transfer
coefficient. When the temperatures T s and T ∞ are fixed by design consideration, as is
often the case, there are two ways to increase the rate of heat transfer: to increase the
convection heat transfer coefficient h or to increase the surface area A s. Increasing h
may require the installation of a pump or fan, or replacing the existing one with a larger
one, but this approach may or may not be practical. Besides, it may not be adequate.
The alternative is to increase the surface area by attaching to the surface extended
surfaces called fins made of highly conductive materials such as aluminum. Finned
surfaces are manufactured by extruding, welding, or wrapping a thin metal sheet on a
surface. Fins enhance heat transfer from a surface by exposing a larger surface area to
convection and radiation.
Finned surfaces are commonly used in practice to enhance heat transfer, and they often
increase the rate of heat transfer from a surface several fold. The car radiator is an
example of a finned surface. The closely packed thin metal sheets attached to the hot
water tubes increase the surface area for convection and thus the rate of convection heat
transfer from the tubes to the air many times. There are a variety of innovative fin
design available in the market, and they seem to be limited only by imagination.
![Page 22: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
In the analysis of fins, we consider steady operation with no heat generation in the fin,
and we assume the thermal conductivity k of the material to remain constant. We also
assume the convection heat transfer coefficient h to be constant and uniform over the
entire surface of the fin for convenience in the analysis. We recognize that the
convection heat transfer coefficient of h, in general, varies along the fin as well as its
circumference, ant its value at a point is a strong function of the fluid motion at that
point. The value h is usually much lower at the fin base that it is at the fin tip because
the fluid is surrounded by solid surfaces near the base, which seriously disrupt its
motion to the point of suffocating it, while the fluid near the fin tip has little contact
with a solid surface and thus encounters little resistance to flow. Therefore, adding too
many fins on surface may actually decrease the overall heat transfer when the decrease
in h offsets any gain resulting from the increase in the surface area.
Figure 8. Volume element of a fin at location x having length of ∆ x
Consider a volume element of a fin at location x having a length of ∆ x, cross-sectional
area of Ac, and a parameter of p, as shown in fig.3-35. Under steady condition, the
energy balance on this volume element can be expressed as
(Rate of heatconduction intothe element at x)=(Rateof heat
conduction from theelement at x+∆ x )+(Rate of heat
convec tion fromthe element )
Q̇cond , x=Q̇ cond , x+∆ x+Q̇ conv
Q̇conv=h ( p∆ x )+(T−T ∞)
From Fourier’s law of heat conduction we have
Q̇cond=−k AcdTdx
![Page 23: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
In general, the cross-sectional area Ac and the perimeter p of a fin vary with x,
which makes this differential equation difficult to solve.
Boundary condition at fin base: θ (0 )=θb=T b−T∞
Figure 9. Boundary condition at the fin base and the fin tip
At the fin tip we have several possibilities, including specified temperature,
negligible heat loss (idealized as an insulated tip), convection, and combined convection
and radiation (fig. 3-36). Next we consider each separately.
An important step in the design of a fin
is the determination of the appropriate length of
the fin once the fin material and the fin cross
section are specified. You may be tempted to
think that the longer the fin, the larger the
surface area and thus the higher the rate of heat
transfer. Therefore, for maximum heat transfer,
the fin should be infinitely long. However, the
temperature drops along the fin exponentially
and reaches the environment temperature at
some length. The part of the fin beyond this
length does not contribute to heat transfer
since it is at the temperature of the
environment, as shown in fig 3-46. Therefore, designing such an extra long fin is out of
the question since it result in material waste, excessive weight, and increased size and
thus increased cost with no benefit in return (in fact, such a long fin will hurt
performance since it will suppress fluid motion and thus reduce the convection heat
Figure 10. Because of the gradual temperature drop along the fin
![Page 24: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
transfer coefficient). Fins that are so long that the temperature approaches the
environment temperature cannot be recommended either since the little increase in heat
transfer at tip region cannot justify the large increase in the weight and cost.
To get a sense of the proper length of a fin, we compare heat transfer from a fin
of finite length to heat transfer from an infinitely long fin under the same conditions.
The ratio of these two heat transfer is
Q̇fin
Q̇longfin
=√hpk Ac ( Tb−T∞ ) tanh aL
√hpk A c (T b−T ∞ )=tanh aL
Using a hand calculator, the values of tanh aL are evaluated for some values of
aL and the result are given in Table 3-3. We observe from the table that heat transfer
from a fin increases with aL almost linearly at first, but the curve reaches a plateau later
and reaches a value for the infinitely long fin at about aL=5. Therefore, a fin whose
length is L=1 /5 a can be considered to be an infinitely long fin. We also observe that
reducing the fin length by half in that case (from aL=5 to aL=2,5) causes a drop of just
1 percent in heat transfer. We certainly would not hesitate sacrificing 1 percent in heat
transfer performance in return for 50 percent reduction in the size and possibly the cost
of the fin. In practice, a fin length that corresponds to about aL=1 will transfer 76,2
percent of the heat that can be transferred by an infinitely long fin, and thus it should
offer a good compromise between heat transfer performance and the fin size.
A common approximation used in the analysis of fins is to assume the fin
temperature varies in one direction only (along the fin length) and the temperature
variation along other direction is negligible. Perhaps you are wondering if this one-
dimensionless approximation is a reasonable one. This is certainly the case for fins
made of thin metal sheets such as the fins on a car radiator, but we wouldn’t be so sure
for fins made of thick materials. Studies have shown that the error involved in one-
dimensionless fin analysis is negligible (less than about 1 percent) when hδ /k<0,2.
Where δ is the characteristic thickness of the fin, which is taken to be the plate
thickness t for rectangular fins and the diameter D for cylindrical ones.
Specially designed finned surfaces called heat sinks, which are commonly used
in the cooling of electronic equipment, involve one-of-a-kind complex geometries, as
shown in table 3-4.the heat transfer performance of heat sins is usually expressed in
terms of their thermal resistances R in oC/W. which is defined as
![Page 25: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)

A small value of thermal resistance indicates a small temperature drop across the
heat sink, and thus high fin efficiency.

2.7 Computational Fluid Dynamic
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is the term given to the task of
representing and solving the fluid flow and associated equations on a computer.
Although the equations controlling fluid flow have been known for over 150 years
significant advances in CFD were delayed until the 1960’s when digital computers
became available to the scientific community. Since then CFD has attracted an ever-
increasing level of resources and has generated real benefits for industry sectors that
have invested in it. The power and relatively low price of modern work stations,
together with the high quality of commercial CFD codes now available, make CFD a
very attractive tool for designers and engineers in the process industries, and an
effective vehicle for many research workers in the heat and mass transfer fields.
Although CFD is about solving complex equations, the real challenges revolve around
understanding the physics and how the essential elements of the problem can be
represented in terms of equations and boundary conditions. The nonlinearities present in
the flow equations and the complexity of the physics are such that CFD is not likely to
replace all physical experiments in the foreseeable future. CFD is, however, likely to
![Page 26: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
reduce the volume of expensive experimental work and help design better experiments,
as well as increase our understanding and predictive abilities.
The two essential components of CFD are mathematical modeling and
numerical analysis, although it is sometimes difficult to separate them fully.
Mathematical modeling is about expressing the problem in a mathematical form with
reasonably correct differential equations and adequate boundary conditions. Although
this appears straightforward, it is in fact the most difficult and demanding task most
engineers face when using CFD. Decisions have to be made about how detailed the
CFD calculation is going to be, and indeed how detailed it needs to be to represent the
significant processes involved in a problem. Some of these decisions are easy to make:
is the problem two- or three-dimensional? even if it is three-dimensional, will a two-
dimensional representation suffice? Others are very difficult and may lead to lengthy
subsidiary work: is the standard turbulence model adequate? The boundary conditions
imposed for heat transfer in the re-attachment zone reasonable for my application? The
continuity, momentum and scalar transport equations are nonlinear and coupled and
take the following form:
∂ ρ∂t
+ ∂∂ x j
( ρU j )=0
∂ ( ρ U j )∂ t
+ ∂∂ x j
( ρ U jU i )−∂
∂ x j(η ∂ U i
∂ x j
−ρ U iU j)−∂ P∂ xi
+S i=0
∂ ( ρΦ )∂ t
+∂
∂ x j( ρU j Φ)− ∂
∂ x j( μ
Pr∂ Φ∂ x j
−ρU j Φ)+SΦ=0
where U i and ui are the mean and fluctuating components of velocity in the x i
direction; Φ and φ are the mean and fluctuating components of a passive scalar, such as
temperature; Ρ is the pressure; ρ is the density, ηt is the viscosity; Pr is the Prandtl
number, and the S terms represent sources for the momentum or scalar equations. The
overbar indicates that an averaging procedure has been applied to the cross-correlation
of the fluctuating components. Constitutive relationships are required for the correlation
terms; for example, the Boussinesq hypothesis leads to:
−ρ ui u j=ηt( ∂ U i
∂ x j
+∂U j
∂ x i)
Turbulence Modeling is a field in its own right, and the complexity of turbulence
models adopted reflects the complexity of the physics and the computing resources
available. For a typical single-phase problem with heat transfer, there are three
momentum, one conservation and one energy or temperature equations. The complexity
![Page 27: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
of the turbulence model adopted determines the number of equations used to determine
ηt, the well-known k−ε turbulence adds two further equations to the problem-one for
the turbulent kinetic energy k and one for the turbulent dissipation rate ε . If the problem
also involves mass transfer, then more transport equations similar in form to the energy
equation are required to represent the various chemical species transported. Near-wall
treatment and boundary condition interpretation may need special attention when heat
and mass transfer are taking place.
The second component of CFD is related to the numerical aspects of
representing the above equations on a computer and solving them. The first task is to
choose a coordinate system and mesh which will be able to give adequate resolution of
the geometry and physics of the problem. The second task is to digitize the differential
equations into their difference form, in a manner which will result in an accurate and
robust (stable) set of algebraic equations suitable for numerical manipulation. The final
numerical task is to use a solution procedure which will solve the discretized equations
quickly and accurately without making undue demands on the hardware (memory, disk
space and central processor speed). There are essentially two solution methods: one is
classified as uncoupled and the other as a coupled method. In the uncoupled method, the
discretized equations for each variable are solved separately for the whole field so that
each velocity component is found separately. Pressure is then obtained through a
procedure which uses the mass conservation equation. In the coupled method, velocities
and pressures are solved simultaneously. (See also Numerical Methods.)
CFD has matured to a point where most CFD calculations are undertaken on
commercial packages. Most CFD software vendors offer body-fitted, multi block
structured mesh or totally unstructured mesh capabilities, which provide excellent
geometric resolution; most codes are able to use geometries and meshes set up on the
large commercial solid body modeling software packages. Vendors also offer a choice
of discretization schemes; in general, the more accurate the scheme, the greater the
demands it will make on computing resources. Unless there is a research need to modify
or use alternative discretization algorithmic, it is usual to use the vendors’ offerings.
The same is true of the solution procedures. Vendors have coded up a number of
algorithms and allow the user to choose between them.
The CFD user is faced with a three-component task: setting up the problem;
using the CFD software to solve the equations; and examining the CFD solutions. For
most engineers, the first component is the most time-consuming; but this is changing.
The laborious task of setting up geometries and grids has been mechanized and it is now
![Page 28: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)
possible to use numerical geometric information from other software packages to
quickly generate appropriate CFD grids. The technology has reached a point where
commercial vendors are offering adaptive grids. These are grids which move their
positions during the calculation so as to optimize the resolution of the physical
phenomena being modeled. There are a number of well-tried and proven numerical
schemes available which have been coded by commercial vendors. Thus, this is
generally no longer a problem area for most CFD users.
Analysis and assessment of CFD predictions is surprisingly difficult. Given the
inherent three-dimensional nature of CFD, and the large number of variables normally
computed, good interactive graphical capabilities become essential. Even with these, it
is difficult to display the vast quantities of information in a manner which facilitates
clear understanding of the problems.

Desain kiln ini mampu menampung lumber sebanyak 5 buah. Sesuai
![Page 31: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/31.jpg)
0,84 W/moK, massa jenis 1.700 Kg/m3 dan panas spesifik 800 J/KgoK. Fan deck

![Page 32: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/32.jpg)
peneliti menambahkan satu variabel posisi coil dipasang miring.
terlalu penting selama seluruh kondisi variabel dibuat sama.
![Page 33: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/33.jpg)
x akan disebut sebagai Left to Right, sudut y disebut sebagai Top to Bottom, sudut z
disebut sebagai Front to Rear.
![Page 34: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/34.jpg)

3.5.3 Front to Rear
Analisa Front to Rear (FR) terdapat 60 titik, dimana titik tersebut

CHAPTER 4
RESULT AND ANALYSIS
4.1 Graphic Result
4.1.1 K0067

![Page 41: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/41.jpg)
Figure 14 Speed of K0067 Opened Ventilation at z= 4,67 m
![Page 42: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/42.jpg)
Figure 15 Temperature of K0067 Opened Ventilation at z= 4,67 m
kiri menuju sebelah kanan. Warna biru bergaris menggambarkan wood stick yang
disusun bertingkat.
Terlihat dibagian paling atas kiln sebelum kipas terdapat warna biru tua,
kestabilan tekanan didalam kiln.
lingkungan yaitu 30oC. Pada ventilasi sebelah kiri menyatakan terdapat energi
yang dikembalikan ke lingkungan. Kemudian, koil pada sebelah kiri dan kanan
berwarna merah yaitu menggambarkan temperatur koil sebesar 90oC.

Figure 19 Temperature of K9067 Opened Ventilation at z= 4,67 m
kiri menuju sebelah kanan. Warna biru bergaris menggambarkan wood stick yang
disusun bertingkat.
tinggi dibandingkan sebelah kanan.
Terlihat dibagian paling atas kiln sebelum kipas terdapat warna biru tua,
kestabilan tekanan didalam kiln.
temperatur setelah kipas. Pada ventilasi sebelah kiri menyatakan terdapat energi
yang dikembalikan ke lingkungan. Kemudian, koil pada sebelah kiri dan kanan
berwarna merah yaitu menggambarkan temperatur koil sebesar 90oC. Di industri,
![Page 49: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/49.jpg)
energi.
4.2 Comparison Between Opened and Closed Ventilation

4.2.3 Conclusion of These Comparison
![Page 54: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/54.jpg)
sumbu x didalam lumber space.
Selain keseragaman aliran fluida disetiap lumber space, perlu diperhatikan pula

![Page 55: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/55.jpg)
Figure 26 (a) Speed, (b) X-Velocity
(a) (b)
(c)
Figure 27 X-Velocity pada point 0,91m (a) K0067; (b) K5767; (c) K9067

area pertama kali aliran fluida memasuki lumber space.

Figure 30 X-Velocity (TB) K9067
fluidanya sendiri?
Setelah dilakukan pembandingan antara ketiganya maka didapatkan grafik
seperti ditunjukkan gambar berikut:
![Page 59: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/59.jpg)

Figure 31 Airspeed Comparison at point 0,91 from Front to Rear (FR)
Semakin tinggi temperaturnya
![Page 60: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/60.jpg)

mengeringkan kayu?
Setelah dilakukan pembandingan antara ketiganya maka didapatkan grafik
seperti ditunjukkan gambar berikut:

mendistribusikan temperatur tertinggi sebesar 32,41oC.
4.5 Meningkatkan Efisiensi K0067
![Page 64: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/64.jpg)
temperatur.
berikut:
![Page 65: Coil direction of Compartment Kiln](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062515/55cf9c08550346d033a84fa5/html5/thumbnails/65.jpg)
