Instruction for Setting Cohu Camera Model 3935-3100 Color

/Mono 115V (P/N 670072)

1. Initial Camera setup

Connect the 75 ohm video cable to a TV monitor for viewing sense from the

camera, if the site wont equip with a video server.

Connect RS-422 converter to a serial port of computer.

Using WinMPC_ER8011B5.exe software to configuration cohu camera.

Run WinMPC software, it will bring to the main window look like the picture

below.Picture 1: Main window.

Click on the Camera Setup button on the main window, it will popup awindow as below

Select comm1-4, it depends on where is the RS 422 converter connects to serial

port of the computer.

Select 9600 baud rate.

Check the firmware version of the Cohu camera, the firmware version is

IVIEW ER8011B5 V1.0. This is special firmware for IRD cohu camera,if the firmware is different from this firmware; the cohu camera has to return to

manufacture for update firmware.

Set elevation to above sea level, where the cohu camera will be mounted. The

local elevation can be found on the internet at the web site:

http://www.wunderground.com

Ex: if you want looking for the elevation of the Saskatoon city area you wouldtype Saskatoon in the top left Conner box then hit return key, it will popup a

window with elevation information of Saskatoon as it indicates in the picture

below.

Choose Day/Night camera, select NTSC for video and iDome/iView for camera

receiver.

Set camera communication protocol to COHU. The rest just leave as default.

Note: To check if there is a communication between the camera and the computerpress the Status ? button on the main window, then wait for few seconds, if at

the box RX display some message as in the main window picture and at the

COMM ERROR button is still grey, that means there is a communication path

between the computer and the camera.

2. Zoom, Focus, and Iris setting.

On the left hand side of the main window under Latch Commands area, there aresix camera control buttons: Camera Power, Len Fast, Manual Iris, Color Balance,Manual Focus and Manual Integrationbuttons. If the dot beside of those buttons

turn red that indicate the buttons are active, those buttons work association with thebuttons in theMomentary area.

Power Camera button: to turn on/off camera by software

Lens Fast button: turn on lens fast button this cause increasing speed aboutdouble of zoom in and zoom out of the camera.

Manual Iris button: turn on this button, it will enable to manual adjust thebrightness of the image, to make the image brighter press upperIris button in the

momentary area, press the bottom Iris button will dim the image. Doug

recommends turn off the Manual Iris button, let the camera automatic

adjust the brightness of the image.

Manual Focus button: turn on manual focus and then use the two focus buttonin the momentary area to set the camera focus, leave the manual focus on after

finishing adjust focus avoid camera automatic adjust focus backs and forth.

3. Camera ID:

For a site with multiples camera it may necessary to setup camera ID for easy to

identify camera, otherwise leave default. Click on Camera ID on the main window itpops up a window like below.

Setup ID Text:

Check mark the Enable box.

Enter camera ID on the Line 1. Enter camera ID text on the Line 2. If you want the camera display another

text on the second line otherwise just leave blank. To clear all the messagehit Clear All IDs button

Maintenance Mode Text

Enable maintenance mode text box will display the information of the

pressure and temperature inside the camera. Note pressure of the Cohu

camera at the room temperature (25 degree C) has to be around 6.5 psi

(according to a technician from Cohu Company)

Clear the Enable box the text display will disappear.

4. Day/Night DSP Camera Control

Select Poll and 38.4Kfor Camera Status

Select Live for Video Freeze. Select On for Progress Scan. Note the function of the Off of progress scan

was disabled by the manufacture, so it does not matter when we select On or

Off for the progress scan.

Select Off for digital Zoom Range.

Select Auto for Day/Night Cntrl, White Balance, Aperture Level

Enter 30 for Max AGC gain.

Setting for ER8011B5 (IRD FIRMWARE ONLY)

Select Low for Light Level.

Select 1/2000 for Day Shutter.

Select 1/250 Night Shutter.Note: for the Day shutter and Night Shutter values may change from site to site, thosevalues depend on the speed of the vehicles and lightning condition at the site. Doug

Pratt recommends using those numbers 1/2000 for day shutter and 1/250 for night

shutter setting.
