The tale dates back to 1791, when a manager of the Theatre Royal inDublin, Richard Daly, bet his friends that within 48 hours he could

make a nonsense word be spoken throughout Dublin. His friends tookhim up on the bet. So Daly sent out his employees to write this word

in chalk on doors, windows, and walls throughout Dublin. Theappearance of this mysterious word became the talk of the town, allowing Daly to win his bet. And it caused this word to pass into

popular usage. The tale ran in a number of publications, such as the New York Mirror(May 2, 1835), The Mirror (Feb 21, 1835), and The London and ParisObserver (Feb 15, 1835). However, there is no evidence to supportthe story and the word was seen in use before the alleged bet in1791. Oxford English Dictionary suggests that its current meaningmay come from its association with a word derived from the latin

inquirire (to inquire). Which word it is?

The name "Kinopio" appears to be a mixture of theJapanese word for mushroom ("kinoko") and the Japanesename for the character Pinocchio ("Pinokio") which bothroughly blend together showcasing his characteristics. Italso represents the constant lie this annoying character

repeats throughout the history, a constant annoyance fromour childhood.

Where have you seen him? Or what lie?

3Ignez Semmelweis was a 19th century Hungarian doctor whorevolutinalized the world of medicine with a simple suggestion.Semmelweis realized that there was a direct correlation between

infection and puerperal fever in obstetrical clinics. Puerperal fever wasa common problem in the 19th century and had a mortality rate of up to18 percent. However, doctors simply refused to believe that they could

be responsible for so many deaths. A few years later Pasteur proved germ theory and people finally

realized Semmelweis’s ideas had some merit. Unfortunately for him,the recognition came too late. By then, Semmelweis went insane tryingto convince others and was committed to an asylum, where he was

beaten to death by guards. What exactly was Semmelweis suggesting?
