Coffs Harbour Public School
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week I had the pleasure of hosting a Parent Focus Group meeting. Twenty parents voiced their opinions and gave ideas as to our new school plan for 2018-2020. We discussed the vision statement, values and the strategic directions. I want to thank the parents and carers who gave such thoughtful and insightful feedback about our school and our future directions. Thank you also to the many other parents and carers who had put in expressions of interest to join the group. It is really encouraging for us to have so many people want to have a say in our school. I look forward to holding further Parent Focus Group discussions next year.
Last Saturday, the new Library demountable arrived at school. This demountable will be used for 2018 whilst our new library is built. The administration demountable close to Salamander Street will be the office area. Thanks so much to our whole school community who gave such great feedback to APP (the project management group) during the community consultation phase. We are really looking forward to seeing the final plans now being drawn up and ready for tendering.
This Friday, our students will participate in a Remembrance Ceremony. Remembrance Day is a day of special significance to all Australians, commemorating the loss of Australian lives in all wars, conflicts and peace operations. From 2014 - 2018, Australia is commemorating the Anzac Centenary, marking 100 years since our nation’s involvement in the First World War. Our student leaders will lead the ceremony.
Have a great week,
Leonie

Guitar Lessons
Our guitar teacher Amy Gravino, has been giving some of the students an opportunity to perform at The Sunken Chip Beach Cafe in Sandy Beach. They have been popular events and it's been amazing for the kids to showcase their hard work.

Hello Parents
Thank you to the parents who nominated for the Parent Focus Group and our appreciation goes to those who were able to attend. The discussion centred around the school plan for 2018-2020 and parents’ views on the Vision Statement and Values. The next meeting will be in Term 1, 2018.
All the parents of our school are invited to join with the Kindergarten 2018 parents on Friday afternoons for some learning opportunities.
This Friday from 2-3pm Stage 2 will present their “Wax Museum”- individual presentations on historical characters they have prepared- in the COLA.
Friday 17th November from 2-3pm The Cancer Council will be in the Library to present ways to get fussy eaters to increase their fruit and vegetable intake. There will be recipes available for all those who attend. It will also cover cheap and healthy eating.
On Friday 24th November, Louise Blomfield will run a short session from 2.15-2.45pm on literacy and numeracy strategies for parents to use. All of our parents can attend this also.
My role as a CLO has changed slightly this Term. I will also be working in the office to fill a vacancy there. It means I will be here at school more often but I will be a little busier. I will still see your smiling faces around thankfully.

Sustainability News
Our school Sustainability Committee hosted the Coffs Harbour Sustainable Schools Network Meeting on Monday the 7th of November. We received lots of positive feedback about our school sustainability project and they are excited to come back next year to see our progress.
The Coffs Harbour Sustainable Schools Network (SSN) is a forum facilitated by Coffs Harbour City Council for teachers and parents to meet and discuss environmental sustainability ideas, projects and opportunities for their schools and school communities. It provides opportunities to:
Share ideas, inspiration and resources on making our local schools more sustainable
Share knowledge about environmental and sustainability issues and programs across local school communities
Provide professional and skills development
Opportunities for teachers and parents on sustainability and environmental issues
Streamline communications for Council to schools
Find out about workshops, events, training and grant opportunities
Communicate with Council on training needs, grant requirements or other relevant requests.
These meetings are hosted by different schools in the Coffs Harbour region each term. We look forward to being part of this in 2018.
