REPORTS:

Secretary Geoff requested that those who have not advised him if they are going to attend the GSE dinner at the Coffs Harbour Golf Club on 2nd March please give him a call. This event is taking the place of our normal meeting of the 27 February. (next Monday).

Ian McAllister reminded members of this proposed social weekend. A visit Brooklana Angus Cattle Stud owned by a former resident of Coffs, Roger Pryce. At this stage MacA is thinking about a bus trip to the stud on the Saturday, a look around and explanation of what they are doing, a BBQ and then off to the HillTop motel at Dorrigo for the night. We are advised that the motel has been nicely refurbished.

There was a good show of hands as to who would be interested so don’t forget to mention it to your partner and get them on side. More info on this to come. It could happen in April.

Bob Carle is working on the proposed Vocational Visit to the Cancer Unit at the Health Campus. The catch is that we would need to attend at 6.30 - 7.00am and have breakfast in the Health Campus café afterwards. More to come on this.

Bob also mentioned that the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute (MNCCI) is in need of a new computer set-up to enable better recording on information. This had come to light when he joined the Rotary Club of Coffs Harbour DayBreak at a Vocational visit to the Cancer Unit of the Campus. The MNCCI requires 10 new systems and it was proposed that the Rotary clubs in the area could become part of a project to raise money to provide these computer systems. The cost of each unit is $7/8K. Bob advised that the Rotary Club of Coffs Harbour South has already promised $8.8K for this cause. He suggested that may be the 2017 B.I.G. Charity Golf Day proceeds could be directed towards this cause.

The Fellowship Night at Coffs Harbour DayBreak Rotary's Trivia night at the Coffs Harbour Golf Club was a great success. Our group numbered 10 and came equal first when the results were tallied up. Well done team.

Peter Lindsay, International, advised that Dr Alan Tankel, has confirmed that the two nurses from Tonga are set to visit Coffs in April. They will be billeted with nurses working at the Health Campus.

President Terry advised that the Coffs Harbour Regional Conservatorium is to hold a concert of Monday next (27th February). At the concert they propose to present the Bill Wood Award to Mima Kiel a young jazz singer. The concert will commence at 6.30 pm. Bernard Dowling will attend on behalf of President Terry and do the presentation. Bev Wood will also attend.

I repeat this from Paul McKeon. Paul reminded members last week about upcoming exhibition at the Bunker, 'The Phantom' on the 10th March. He emphasised that the board of the Bunker was looking for a very strong showing from the club members, their partners and friends at this event. It is planned that the event will be more of a party with some very notable Australian artist and celebrities attending. Tickets will go on sale shortly at $30.00 per head or $100.00 for a party of 4. Good food (better than finger food) will be available as well as the odd drink. The club meeting the Monday before will be transferred to this date.

Please speak to your partner and friends now and mark this date in your calendar.

Your invitation will issued within the next few days.

Pat Magann advised members that a rugby luncheon is to be held at the Coffs Hotel on Saturday, March 25. The guest speaker will be former Wallaby, Nick Farr-Jones.

Tickets are $90.00 and will include a two course meal, wine on the tables and jugs of beer while the speeches are in progress. Proceeds are to go to the Marlins Rugby Club.

Several members have already purchased tickets. If you are interested please give Pat a call on 0428 227 102.

Also a Friendship Exchange Group from USA will be here 16th to 19 March.

RYLA is happening on 1 April. Bob Carle is looking for likely applicants. Can anyone help?

President Terry is still seeking ideas as to who we should include as the major beneficiary of the 2017 B.I.G. Charity Golf Day. Have a think and advise Terry accordingly.

President Terry acknowledged the receipt of a letter of thanks from the Health Campus, Area Cancer Services for the recent donation of the Delphin D Moisture

meter. See attached.

President Terry called on Ian McAllister to introduce our guest speaker, Bill Robins.

Bill is a lawyer specialising in patent law, trademark law and intellectual property law. Bill explained the difference in these areas and gave us some examples of how these laws were determined by the courts. I will not go into the explanation of each as I may not get it correct other than to say that it was very interesting and no doubt can be very complex and very expensive for people and corporations who get it wrong and get sued. Again we did not have a great deal of time and the talk and questions could have gone on for some time.

President Terry called on Graham Lockett to propose a vote of thanks to Bill.

Sergeants Fine Session: Ross Paul amused the group by noting many misdemeanors which cost the perpetrators a small fine. Rosco was assisted by Ian McAllister. .

The chance to Pick the Joker was won by Mike Blewitt. However Mike had to leave early so he can have a go next meeting. Mike will have a chance at $50.00 and the following pick will be $55.00 if Mike is unsuccessful.
