Flying fashion: At fashion shows, spectators expect to see models strutting down the catwalk wearing the latest styles. However, a fashion show that took place in a luxury hotel in the port city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, had some people scratching their heads when organizers tried something different. Small drones flew down the runway while holding hangers with clothing. The dresses and skirts fluttered and jiggled, and looked rather odd. The tactic was used partly to showcase the country’s technology, but not every- one in the fashion industry liked the effect. Some thought the empty clothing items looked like floating ghosts. Staring dog: There is a dog in the city of General Roca, Argentina, that inexplicably stared at a blue wall for three days. Onlookers did not know his real name, so they dubbed him “Chicho.” The pooch would sit or stand in front of a sky blue wall at a bus stop. It seemed like he was attending to something on the wall, and even though people called him, he persisted, wagging his tail the whole time. He became an online animal celebrity. The owner lives near the bus stop and brought the dog back to his own yard for fear of someone stealing the newly famous pet. Bad idea: High school graduation planners usually invite live bands as entertainment for the year-end dance. But the folks behind the celebration at Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, Florida (US), are in a bit of trouble after bringing in a live, caged tiger to be the centerpiece, as well as a lemur, a parrot, and a fox. The theme of the prom was “Welcome to the Jungle” and, while legal, there was backlash about the morality of it. Suffice it to say that the students may have learned the most valuable lesson of the year. It’s exciting to see exotic animals up close, but animal experts criticize using them as entertainment. Perhaps the school’s future grad classes will come up with tamer themes! Wayward peacock: Rose Botting, who lives in the village of Handcross, West Sussex (England), gets visits from an all-white peacock named “Bertie,” whose owner lives in a nearby village. Every mating season, the bird looks for a peahen and tends to visit gardens, hop onto roofs, and generally cause a commotion. Bertie’s white feathers are often seen beautifully fanned out, but unfortunately, there aren’t any peahens in the vicinity. He also dances the peacock-mating dance, to no avail. Botting used a taped peahen’s call to lure Bertie to her home, then she called Bertie’s owner, Jo Wilding, who came from her village to pick up the wayward bird. Furry baby: When fully grown, a bear is unlikely to be mistakenfor a dog. But what about when they are babies? A man fromYongsheng County, Yunnan Province (China), did just that. When he was out looking for wild mushrooms, he came across alittle puppy, or so he thought. He took the pup home andlooked after it, but must have realized something was amisswhen the puppy grew into a very large Asian bear, which is aprotected species. The man kept the bear in a cage, but tookgood care of it. Someone reported him, and authorities claimedthe bear. The man was not fined because he was cooperativeand the bear was in good health.Escaped pigs: A security camera revealed that, in the middle ofthe night, two pigs appeared at a gas station in Upper Coomera,Queensland (Australia). When the sun came up, the porky beastsgreeted amused customers and staff, many of whom took photos. The pigs spent several hours checking out people and cars. They also enjoyed rutting around in a garden before taking anap. It turns out that the friendly, but mischievous, pair had gottenaway from their owner’s home, located not far from the gasstation. The owner soon arrived on the scene to pick up thetwo curly-tailed beasts.

Staring dog: There is a dog in the city of General Roca,Argentina, that inexplicably stared at a blue wall for three days.Onlookers did not know his real name, so they dubbed him“Chicho.” The pooch would sit or stand in front of a sky blue wallat a bus stop. It seemed like he was attending to something on thewall, and even though people called him, he persisted, wagginghis tail the whole time. He became an online animal celebrity. The owner lives near the bus stop and brought the dog back tohis own yard for fear of someone stealing the newly famous pet.Bad idea: High school graduation planners usually invite livebands as entertainment for the year-end dance. But the folksbehind the celebration at Christopher Columbus High Schoolin Miami, Florida (US), are in a bit of trouble after bringing in alive, caged tiger to be the centerpiece, as well as a lemur, aparrot, and a fox. The theme of the prom was “Welcome tothe Jungle” and, while legal, there was backlash about themorality of it. Suffice it to say that the students may havelearned the most valuable lesson of the year. It’s exciting to seeexotic animals up close, but animal experts criticize using themas entertainment. Perhaps the school’s future grad classes willcome up with tamer themes!Wayward peacock: Rose Botting, who lives in the village ofHandcross, West Sussex (England), gets visits from an all-whitepeacock named “Bertie,” whose owner lives in a nearby village.Every mating season, the bird looks for a peahen and tends tovisit gardens, hop onto roofs, and generally cause a commotion.Bertie’s white feathers are often seen beautifully fanned out, butunfortunately, there aren’t any peahens in the vicinity. He alsodances the peacock-mating dance, to no avail. Botting used ataped peahen’s call to lure Bertie to her home, then she calledBertie’s owner, Jo Wilding, who came from her village to pickup the wayward bird.
