2. Introduction Important things to know about the Coed Man-to-Man Defense: Most teams in our league use zone defenses Our Man-to-Man is gender specific. Effectiveness depends on players skill 3. Base Play3-2-2 Defense Mostly Man-to-Man Defense Some Zone aspects (Males only) 4. Proper AlignmentVertical Alignment (from line of scrimmage): Girls= 3-5 yards, Guy LBs= 5-7 yards, Guy Safeties= 10-15 yardsLateral Alignment: Depends on how the opposing Offense is aligned. All Defenders should shade to the inside shoulder of theirassigned WR, except the MLB who plays directly over top. 5. Base AssignmentsEveryone should have someone in front of them in a 1:1 Defender to WR ratio 6. Girl Defensive Assignments Girls identify the offenses formation, finds their assignment, and takes their position. The outside LBs use inside alignment, the MLB aligns directly over the top. Try to stay in front of the WRs path, so you can see the WR and QB at the same time and know when to defend a pass. Girls cover their receiver from the start to the end of each play. 7. Guy Defensive Assignments The LBs will always crash on the most underneath male route from their side. The Safeties need to read who the LB covers, and then take the deeper WR. Each guy can switch assignments with another guy to their side, or in front/back of them. If the opposing male slot WRs cross in front of our guy LBs, the assignment switch should be automatic. 8. Strengths of Man-to-ManEasy to understand Everyone is covered Cover a person anddo not let them catch the ball. If they do, tackle them. 1:1 Defender to WR ratio Starting position andalignment take away immediate short routes 9. Weak spots of Man-to-Man Good QBs and WRs can exploit it with pump fakes and double moves. WRs that are significantly more athletic than their defender will leave them in the dust. Crossing route patterns if the defender gets caught trailing. 10. Why do we shade to the inside?Because even against people of equal speed, if they simply cut towards the middle they have the entire field to get away from you. 11. Recap Start in base 3-2-2 with inside alignment Coverage is gender specific Guys can switch coverage assignment mid-play with the guy to their side, or in front/back of them as the route patterns dictate Every WR should be covered Susceptible to crossing routes and double moves
