Design innovation brings together the much-needed human touch to machine based solutions; allowing the development of both the left and right hemisphere of the brain, it is something that is imperative for anyone to learn in today’s world.

The interactions and exchange of ideas that take place between people cannot be replicated elsewhere. Codomo focuses on providing students with a conducive learning space where they conceive and explore new and innovative ideas with one another.

Codomo nurtures children to become technically-grounded designers with a business acumen, who will be able to devise innovative solutions so as to tackle increasingly complex and ubiquitous problems.

Acquiring 21st Century Skills

Page 3: Codomo brochure

Design Innovation hones children’s creative dexterity and computational prowess. Along with that, we aim to supplement them with empathy, public-speaking confidence and social and emotional learning in order for them in develop a growth mindset that prepares them for the future.

Design encourages individuals to ideate solutions for their target users through empathy; enabling the creation of user-centric solutions which address the culture, context and constraints of the problem.

Coding puts emphasis on a systematic approach in order to solve complex problems through decomposition and pattern recognition.

Making and fabricating one’s very own ideas brings the design innovation experience full circle as mere concepts are brought to reality.

PedagogyThrough the Codomo pedagogy, participants will understand the importance of empathy and problem definition - the methodologies involved in ideation - and finally, the right techniques for prototyping and pitching of ideas. This encompasses all aspects of design innovation, throughout which, participants will also be equipped with technical skills needed to realise their solutions.

Courses and CurriculumCodomo believes in the approach and process of nurturing students to develop a positive mindset and passion towards learning design and technology; enabling them to persevere in their learning journey and ultimatley, identify innovation opportunities in their everyday lives.

All our classes and workshops are designed with both technology and design intrinsically integrated to ensure holistic learning that hones innovative mindsets instead of purposeless learning of the latest technology.

Courses are indicated with the following symbols to illustrate the focus of the class experience as well as the skills that are being practiced and taught in class.

Robotics Space Challengeaged 6 to 8

5 billion years into the future, the Sun is dying. We will have to send a robot to the Sun to refuel it. The journey is fraught with dangerous obstacles and participants will learn to code their robot to save the Sun.

Iron Man Arc Reactoraged 12 and above

Using LED lights, Arduino microcontrollers and basic coding, experience wearable technology like never before by making your very own Ironman Arc Reactor replica.

Arduino Artaged 12 and above

Combining art and tech, particpants are introduced to the basics of hardware and software. Using Arduino microcontrollers, motors, servos and LEDs, participants create a light painting drawn by the motion of light captured with long-exposure photography.

Kodu Game Codersaged 7 to 10

Don’t just be a gamer, be a game developer! Using Kodu Game Lab, participants will be trained to think creatively and logically while designing and developing their games using icon-based code blocks and interactive hardware platforms like Makey-Makey - an invention kit that can transform any conductive physical object into a fun an interactive touchpad.

Scratch Imaginario aged 7 to 10

This workshop provides a fun and immersive environment for participants to play and learn in a hands-on manner. Over five lessons, participants will learn simple coding concepts on Scratch - a visual programming interface - while also tinkering with hardware interfaces such as Makey-Makey to create personalised versions of interactive media and game controllers.

Minecraft Hackeraged 10 to 18

Python is the second-most popular programming programming language in the world and is taught at universities such as MIT at the undergraduate level. Codomo brings such college-level programming languages to children and teaches them to hack Minecraft, a popular game among kids, using programming.

Product Designathonaged 9 to 18

Depending on the age group, participants will learn Autodesk‘s 3D modelling software, 123D or Fusion 360. They will be tasked to redesign everyday objects to enhance functionality or user experience. In the process, they will develop their creativity by acquiring a suite of ideation techniques.

Android App Designaged 12 to 18

Participants are introduced to the field of mobile application development. Through the process of design thinking, participants will redesign a segment of their daily life by developing an android application using AppInventor, an interactive programming interface perfect for anyone who has dreamt of creating their own mobile apps.

Junior Engineersaged 6 to 8

A progression from Robotics Playground, this course gives a more thorough coverage on the different aspects of robotics. From controllers, to motors, to sensors to mechanics, the underlying concepts of how these components work together in everyday appliances or products are explored indepth. With more challenging activities and tasks carried out with Dash and Lego EV3, participants learn critical problem solving skills and rapid prototyping as more emphasis is placed on designing their own solutions.

Creative Codersaged 6 to 9

This course introduces the basics of coding using Potato Pirates - Codomo’s proprietary card game. With the help of the MIT Scratch software, participants’ computational thinking, creative thinking and storytelling skills are developed. Much of this course is focused on developing soft skills that are as essential to the child’s development as being a critical thinker and cohesive presenter.

Deep DivingImmersive 12-week courses

Robotics Playgroundaged 4 to 5

The Robotics Playground uses child-friendly robots such as the Dash and Lego WeDo to introduce participants to fundamental coding concepts which they complete various misisons and challenges by programming their robots. To stimulate their inquisitive minds, simple science concepts are also taught through fun and exciting hands-on activities and experiments with the use of simple electronic components.
