With the implementation of ICD-10 delayed until October 1, 2014, mastering ICD-9 coding concepts is critical for home health agencies to ensure compliance, minimize the risk of an audit, reduce costly errors, maximize reimbursement, and obtain optimal risk adjustment. Missing just one step could negatively impact your bottom line and quality outcomes! Coding accuracy is critical to your agency’s success! Though this workshop is designed for beginners, even coders with some experience will benefit from reviewing the fundamental basics of home care coding. This one-day course will start with some PPS and billing facts, and then you will learn the coding conventions, how to navigate your coding manual, what OASIS has to say about the diagnosis M items and selecting and sequencing diagnoses, the rules for coding symptoms and manifestations, how to use V codes, and the guidance for assigning payment diagnoses. Learning these coding basics will be your first step to becoming a proficient coder!

ABOUT YOUR SPEAKERS Sharon Molinari RN, HCS-D, HCS-O, a home health veteran and consultant, is an approved Board of Medical Specialty Coding (BMSC) educator. She has earned credentials as Homecare Coding Specialist – Diagnosis (HCS-D) and Homecare Clinical Specialist for OASIS (HCS-O). Sharon is a member of the BMSC Home Care Advisory Board and author of the Study Guide for HCS-D Certification Examinations. She is also a contributor to various home care publications and authors’ continuing education programs for healthcare professionals.

Arlene Maxim, RN is the founder and owner of A.D. Maxim & Associates, LLC, A.D. Maxim Seminars, LLC. Arlene has been in home care since 1979 and has been a home health care consultant since 1986. She has served in various capacities from home care administrator to home care agency owner to home care consultant. She has designed and implemented management and educational programs for non-profit, hospital based, and for-profit certified home care agencies. She is a sought after speaker for educational programs related to OASIS, Coding, Clinical Documentation, as well as a variety of other topics.
