What is a Chick Flick?• A chick flick is a film that appears to young women.

Camera Angles• Within most chic flicks the beginning scenes are opened by

establishing shots. For example this would show the audience where the character may live or it could be used to set up the scene.• Furthermore close ups are used in the majority of chick flicks, as this

shows their emotions, makeup and costumes.

Within the legally blonde opening scene they show a close up of her necklace with a pink dress within the shot and a strand of her blonde hair. This shows the audience that she is a very girly girl from the start and gives the audience a idea of what her personality is going to be like.

Music • The music within chic flicks tend to be up-beat, popular, well-known

songs.• The beat up music is used to reflect the mood and atmosphere within

the opening scene.

Characters • The main characters within the film are normally established within

the opening scene.• The main character within most chic flicks are normally very dramatic

and very girly. They also are mainly seen in the colour pink as the colour pink is stereotypical for girls so is therefore worn.

Titles and texts

• Titles for chick flicks are normally in the colour pink. Pink is a stereotypical colour for girls and therefore fits into the chick flick genre. • The fonts are normally in bold, fancy or swirly writing. The font

therefore portrays the girly character, for example if the writing is fancy it fits in with the general fashion of chick flicks.

Settings • Most chick flicks opening scenes consists of bedrooms. Or they may

start with an establishing shot of a city depending on the chick flick. The reason some chick flicks start with city openings is because they include many different shops and shopping centres which reinforces the stereotype of girls enjoying going shopping.
