WHAT MAKES A DRAMA FILM?

Drama films are essentially drama films as it allows the audience to relate and sympathise with the characters within the film. This is done through a cleverly written script which is thought provoking and makes the audience think about their own lives. There needs to be a heightened level of tension within the film going through the highs and lows and a good use of editing.

HOW ARE THEY STRUCTURED?

The structure of a drama film is carefully structured in order to capture the audiences attention and to make them become emotionally attached to the action what is going on in the film. To do this they structure the films to have climaxes and anti-climax so that there are peaks to add to the tension. This is so that the audience are kept interested and it stops their mind from wandering during the film.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN CODES AND CONVENTIONS?

There has to be peaks to the storyline.

The characters must be easily relatable for the audience.

There is a form of a realisation at the end of the film.

It is important that the main character has clear relationships to themselves and other people in the film.

The storyline must be realistic.

There should be a form of journey within the film.

There is usually a happy ending.
