Codes and Conventions
Of an Interview
The camera is usually positioned directly straight forwards in
the centre of the shot but the positioning of the interviewee is
manipulated.
They must be sat on either the left or right hand side of the shot
typically, with the interviewer sat as close to the camera as
possible on the opposite side. You will know if this is being done
because the eyeline of the interviewee will go diagonally across
the screen.
Also, typically the interviewer is not seen or heard throughout the interview. The only thing in the shot is the interviewee and dependent on their location any props or objects in the backround. The only voice heard aside from the voice over is the interviewees. The editing process of a documentary allows an interview to have cutaways added to it to break up the interview and also cover any jump cuts from happening as the questions in the interview has been edited out.
