What’s the connection to Standards?

Code.org has studied, analyzed, attached and referenced Common Core standards for even the most intense, standard based admin/district office personnel. Code.org is a natural, easy fit into Common Core.

STEM jobs will continue to increase for many years with no slow down predicted.

Exposing our kids to computer science will help with almost any career they choose.

Can you think of any careers that wouldn’t benefit from being comfy with the basics of computer science?

“Ultimately, the only way to get more people into Computer Science is to start early.”– Larry Page, Google, CEO

Projected New Jobs in STEM

Do you see a reason for our kids to not be afraid of computer

science?

AP ParticipationOf this tiny sliver, only 15% are women.

Only 8% are Hispanic Americans or African Americans.

In China, every student takes computer science to

graduate high school. In the U.S., 90 percent of schools

don’t even teach it.

Equity: We can make a difference!

1.) What can we do to address the imbalance of who is represented in the computer science field at the elementary school level?

2.) What are 3 specific steps or strategies we can use as K-5 educators to address this imbalance?

3.) What challenges do you anticipate running into while addressing equity in your classroom?

Subject: RE: Just had to share! :)  Yes I love it! I have nothing to do right now. Everyone is in their own little world right now. Its awesome. I did see the frozen characters today!  Jami Johnson2nd GradeFlorin Elementary
