DGD16-014 Canberra Hospital and Health Services Procedure Emergency Response Plans – Code Blue Medical Emergency Purpose Code Blue requiring a Medical Emergency Team (MET) response aims to ensure that the potential to improve patient outcomes, following a medical emergency, are optimised. Code Blue activation is triggered by a medical emergency in accordance with prescribed adult, paediatric and neonatal MET criteria’s. The Code Blue response provides additional critical care resources to assist in the management of a medical emergency. Code Blue can be activated for inpatients, out-patients, visitors, staff members and members of the public within the Canberra Hospital and Health Services (CHHS) campus. The Canberra Hospital response includes mobile teams with expertise and training in advanced life support skills. The response teams may come from MET Outreach, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Emergency Department (ED) or Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Each team comprises of at least a registered nurse and a senior doctor. The equipment each team brings with them will be sufficient to provide advanced life support and airway management. Note: In some clinical units, remote to the CHHS campus a Code Blue Response is activated through the ACT Ambulance Service. Emergency Response Plans – Code Blue Medical Emergency

Purpose

Code Blue requiring a Medical Emergency Team (MET) response aims to ensure that the potential to improve patient outcomes, following a medical emergency, are optimised.

Code Blue activation is triggered by a medical emergency in accordance with prescribed adult, paediatric and neonatal MET criteria’s. Scope

It is the responsibility of each staff member to make themselves familiar with the evacuation plans and assembly points for the area in which they work. Local information is provided on all evacuation plans displayed throughout your building.
