Professional DevelopmentResearching the Grant Opportunitywith Jay LaneGet started with the research ― the first of three sessions in agrant writing series. This class will be dedicated to research onlocal, state, Federal and private funding opportunities. Stu-dents will be shown how to obtain the necessary informationin order to match their organization's needs to potential fund-ing agencies. There will be time to explore the thousands ofFederal and private foundation sites, as well as examine thestate and local funding possibilities. At the end of the class,every student will have selected a grant agency and con-ducted the necessary research in order to match their organi-zation's needs with that of the funder. Developing the Grant Applicationwith Jay LaneFocus on the basic concepts of every application process inthis second session in the grant writing series. Students willconduct research on demographic information, as well asother critical resources that are generally required in a basicgrant application. Hike the Catwalkwith Glenn MinuthFor those seeking solitude and escape from modern society’sbusy lifestyle, a cool, refreshing trip is planned to a spectacularcanyon stream. Whitewater Creek (Catron County, New Mexico)is a unique feature in southwestern New Mexico that presentsan always vibrant journey along a path reflecting the localmining history. Our final destination, the Catwalk, follows apath of the pipeline built in the 1890s to deliver water to themining town of Graham. Today, metal walkways are bolted tothe steep canyon walls. Twenty feet below the metal grates ofthe Catwalk is the exhilarating view of the swiftly flowingwater. Join us for a totally unique experience to see the historiccanyon hideouts of Geronimo and Butch Cassidy and thebeautiful pink volcanic rocks of the canyon’s sidewalls.
