THE BUZZ ABOUT BEES & SEEDS: Backyard Pollinator Gardens
One glance at a butterfly, and it’s easy to agree that even the prettiest garden is made prettier with these creatures in
it. Explore YOUR “creative nature” as Master Gardener and Beekeeper Jean Vose discusses the basic “how to’s” for
creating a pollinator friendly garden and the seeds you should be
purchasing and sprouting. Bring your seed catalogs. Fee: $5. Friday,
January. 29, 10 AM.
POLLINATOR SEED SWAP Although winter may have
your garden locked up with cold and snow, there's no
reason to not think about the future as spring will soon be opening
up to your gardening adventures. Stay for the Center’s seed swap following
Jean’s workshop. Remember to bring your favorite seeds, catalogs and
gardening stories to share.
YOGA FOR CAREGIVERS The Coastal Center is exploring the idea of offering a yoga class tailored for home caregivers whose work is usually in the home 24 hours a day. Due to the difficulty of making arrangements for outside the home exercise or stress relieving activities, these caregivers seldom have opportunities for taking care of themselves. Kitty Norton, Certified Kripalu Yoga teacher will hold a pilot class introducing a few yoga practices coupled with a discussion to determine what kind of schedule would work best for those interested in learning more about the healing effects of yoga. Donation: $5. Thursday, January 14, 2:45 PM

Spectrum Generations’ 18th Annual Gene and Lucille Letourneau Ice Fishing Derby will be held on Sunday, February 28th, 2016 (weigh in between 2-5pm) at our Muskie Community Center in Waterville, Maine. The derby promotes outdoor sports and helps raise funds for Spectrum Generations’ “We Sustain Maine” Meals on Wheels program that provides home style cooked meals to homebound seniors and adults with disabilities. Your support as a sponsor or auction donor will place your business in direct contact with hundreds of outdoor sports enthusiasts.
Established by Maine’s great outdoorsman and his wife, Gene and Lucille Letourneau, the Ice Fishing Derby attracts sportsmen throughout the state to compete for prizes for the largest catch in several categories. This multi-generational family event is also supported by Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs and introduces young people to the art and fun of outdoor sports as an alternative to experimenting with drugs, tobacco and alcohol. Children ages 15 and under are encouraged to compete.
Each year the need for Meals on Wheels continues to grow. Last year we cooked, prepared, and delivered more than 205,000 nutritious meals to homebound seniors and disabled adults. Your support of the Gene and Lucille Letourneau Ice Fishing Derby helps assure that no senior in your neighborhood goes hungry while promoting your business!
Please support “We Sustain Maine” Meals on Wheels by sponsoring, donating, and/or participating in this annual event. In-kind donations, including gift cards, will be valued toward sponsorship levels. For more information call Nick Cloutier at (207) 620-1655 or visit spectrumgenerations.org/derby.

CAREGIVER RESPITE PROGRAM
Caregivers are special people. The Caregiver Respite Program provides the opportunity for family caregivers to refresh and regenerate their energies through respite care. Participants in the Caregiver Respite Program have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or related memory disorders. This program assists the caregiver by helping them pay for someone to come into their home and stay with their loved one while the
caregiver is able to get time for him or herself. The person who would provide respite care for your loved one, may be a family member, friend, neighbor, or someone from a home health agency or day program of your choice. This program enables the caregiver the opportunity to take some time for themselves, or just take
some time off to do what they would like or need to do.
The program can: Reimburse up to a total of $3,040 (which is 80% of a total annual cap of $3,800); reimburse 80% of what it costs to have someone come into the home a few hours per week, or several hours of adult day care per week; help with the cost of up to two full weeks of overnight continual care in
an assisted living or nursing facility; allow a caregiver to apply for a waiver of all or part of co-pay depending on income and assets; and help to pay for home modifications needed to promote independent
living (up to $2,000 lifetime).
The eligibility requirements are: having a written diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia or related memory disorder from primary care provider; care recipients liquid assets (bank accounts, certificates of
deposit, money market accounts, IRA, etc.) not to exceed $50,000 for one person, or $75,000 for two (home, land, or vehicles are not to be included as liquid asset); not receiving assistance from any other state
subsidized programs (Home Based Care, Adult Day Care funding, etc.).
These services will continue only as long as funds are available. For more information, please call the Family Caregiver Support Program at 1-800-639-1553.
