Drilling return water exhibited dark color, definite sheen, and definite odor.
10 feet 0 inches to 20 feet 0 inches: - Limestone; massive. Colors range from light gray (10YR 7/2) to gray (10YR 5/1); color from 72 to 95 inches is gleyed (N 5/) with 20-30% light gray (10YR 7/2). Moderately hard (sample can be scratched with knife using light to moderate pressure) to hard (can be scratched with knife using heavy pressure). - Core, fractures, and/or fracture coatings do not exhibit definite non-native staining or odor.- Core end at top of run (i.e., 10 feet 0 inches), calcite crystal, round, 15 mm.- Very Slightly Fractured (core recovered mostly in lengths >3 feet). Fractures are moderately open to open (1-10 mm). Fractures oriented 90 degrees from core axis.- At 90.0 inches, fracture has stylolitic structure; 50% coating on fracture face, very dark gray (N 3/) to black (10YR2/1). Other fractures have no coatings.- From 90.0 to 119 inches, pitted to 7 mm, grades from 0 to 25% abundance.- Elapsed drilling time = 26 minutes; penetration rate = 2.6 feet per minute.
Drilling return water exhibited dark color and definite odor.

Fractures from 8 to 30 inches, from 35.5 to 50.5 inches, and from 51 to 78 inches are oriented 5-10 degrees from core axis; moderately open to open (1-10 mm); no coatings.- From 0 to 8 inches, pitted to 7 mm, grades from 25 to 0% abundance.- From 35.5 to 54.5 inch, pitted to 10 mm, 30% abundance; interval includes a single vug to 15 mm.- From 69 to 80 inches, pitted to 5 mm, 10% abundance.- Elapsed drilling time = 19 minutes; penetration rate = 2.4 feet per minute.

Moderately hard (sample can be scratched with knife using light to moderate pressure) to hard (can be scratched with knife using heavy pressure). - Moderately Fractured (core recovered in lengths from 4 to 12 inches, with most lengths about 8 inches in length).- Fracture coatings range from very dark gray (10YR 3/1) to black (10YR 2/1). Fractures are mostly moderately open to open (1-10 mm). Fractures are oriented at 70-90 degrees from core axis.- Staining of core begins at the lower face of a fracture at 66.5 inches from top of run and extends downward to 73.5 inches below top of run; definite petroleum-type odor at 66.5 inches; stained interval is gray (10YR 5/1); lower boundary of staining is delineated in 3 mm vertical distance.- Elapsed drilling time = 53 minutes; penetration rate = 0.17 feet (2 inches) per minute.
From 21.0 to 27.0 feet, drilling return water did not have visual or olfactory evidence of petroleum, coal tar, or similar impacts. At 27.0 feet, drilling return water exhibited dark color, definite sheen, and definite odor.
- Analytical sample collected from rock core interval with stained appearance that began at a fracture face located at 66.5 inches of this core run. Rock core sample was collected from 4.0 inches above the top of the stained zone (sample ID = SBD2, 66.5FF-4.0"), from 1.5 inches below the top of the stained interval (sample ID = SBD2, 66.5FF+1.5"), and from below the stained interval (sample ID = SBD2, 66.5FF+10.5").

Moderately hard (sample can be scratched with knife using light to moderate pressure) to hard (can be scratched with knife using heavy pressure).- Core, fractures, and/or fracture coatings do not exhibit definite non-native staining or odor.- Moderately Fractured (core recovered in lengths from 4 to 12 inches, with most lengths about 8 inches in length), except from 8.5 to 65.0 inches, which was unfractured.- From 0 to 7 inches, pitted to 10 mm, 15% abundance; interval includes 20% elongate vug to 32 mm with calcite crystals to 2 mm.- Fractures coated generally 20-50% with colors ranging from very dark gray (10YR 3/1) to black (10YR 2/1). - At 82.5 inches, a 1.0 mm-thick (measured) layer, having abrupt (delineated within 0.1 mm), smooth upper and lower contacts, oriented 82 degrees from core axis; material in this interval is black (10YR 2/1).- From 93 to 96.5 inches, breccia appearance; aggregate color is white (10YR 8/1) to very pale brown (10 YR 8/2). BORING I.D.: SB-D4 NOTES:- Purpose of boring: characterize subsurface and assess for the possible presence of coal tar.- AMSL = Above Mean Sea Level; NAVD 88, +/- 0.02 feet.- Well coordinates in Ohio State Plane, North Zone system, NAD 83, +/- 0.04 feet.- Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) designations based on field observations.- Munsell Color Chart colors determined using moist samples.- Bedrock Formation: Columbus Limestone (Dc). - RQD = (sum of length of pieces greater than four inches / length of core run) x 100
- Rock core descriptors based on U.S. Bureau of Reclamation "Engineering Geology Field Manual, Volume I, Second Edition" (1998).- 6-inch diameter borehole advanced vertically into top of competent rock; 5-inch diameter PVC secondary casing cemented to bedrock; secondary seal allowed to cure >8 hours, seal evaluated and verified prior to coring activities.- Bedrock core collected using 94 mm wireline system with split inner barrel; cuttings removed with compressed air using potable water as necessary to control dust and cool bit; polycrystalline impregnated bit, flat kerf, surface (bit face) discharge. - Recovered rock cores measured 2.390 inches (60.706 millimeters) in diameter.- Measurements taken from top of sample-interval recovery (e.g., from the top of an individual core run).

Colors in upper 32 inches range from light bluish gray (10B 7/) to bluish gray (5PB 6/); colors below 32 inches range from light gray (10YR 7/2) to brown (10YR 5/3). Moderately hard (sample can be scratched with knife using light to moderate pressure) to hard (can be scratched with knife using heavy pressure). - Core at top of run is curved.- Moderately Fractured (core recovered in lengths from 4 to 12 inches, with most lengths about 8 inches in length.- Upper 3 inches of core had slight but definite sheen. Remainder of core did not exhibit definite non-native staining or odor.- Fractures are not coated except for lowermost end of core at 63.5 inches, which was 50% coated very dark gray (10YR 3/1) to black (10YR 2/1).- From 0 to 16 inches, 40-50% pitted to 10 mm with a few vugs to 30 mm that have calcite crystals to 5 mm.
- At 31.5 inches, abrupt color change.- From 49 to 63.5 inches, 25-35% pitted to 5 mm.- Elapsed drilling time = 16.2 minutes; penetration rate = 0.3 feet per minute.
From 31.0 to 35.0 feet, drilling return water exhibited dark color, definite sheen, and definite odor. From 35.0 to 36.0 feet there was a noticable reduction in return water discoloration and associated odor.
- Analytical sample collected from top of core run where a sheen on rock core was observed. Analytical sample was collected from sheen zone at top of Run 3 (sample ID = SBD4, R3TOP +0.0") and from below interval of potential impact (sample ID = SBD4, R3TOP+30.5").

From 22.0 to 28.0 feet, drilling return water did not have visual or olfactory evidence of petroleum, coal tar, or similar impacts. At 28.0 feet, return water had slight sheen, no odor. From 28.5 to approximately 29.5 feet, return water had slight sheen and slight odor.
-Analytical sample collected 13.0 inches from the bottom of core run (sample ID = SBD4, R3TOP-13.0"); sample selection was based on sheen observed at top of next core run.
