The Coal River Valley Historical Society Inc has received a grant of $8,160.00 to restore the Richmond War Memorial which is dedicated to local service personnel who were killed in action in the First and Second World Wars. The grant was approved by the Hon Darren Chester MP, Minister for Veterans' Affairs under the "Saluting Their Service Commemorative" Grants Program. Richmond resident and stonemason Steve Kaye will restore the Memorial.
The foundation stone was laid by Sir William Allardyce, Gover-nor of Tasmania, in September 1921. Fundraising had started at the Richmond Fair in 1920,with £200 needing to be raised.
Originally, the names of those who died were placed on plaques on three sides of the Memorial, with each plaque bearing the names of those from the three wards, North (Colebrook), Cen-tral (Campania) and Richmond, in the former Richmond Munic-ipality. Following the Second World War, personnel who died in active service were listed on the remaining side.
The Society looks forward to the completion of the restoration of Richmond's War Memorial in time for what we hope will be a normal Anzac Day service next year.

Brinktop gets a dusting of snowOn the 4th of August Brinktop got a good layer of snow in the afternoon, as well the other hills around the Coal River Valley. The last time it snowed in Richmond was on the 25th of July 1986. The image below was taken by a local down by the River. Richmond was turned into a winter wonderland.
