Coal City Intermediate School Newsletter December 9, 2016 Students of the Week – Congratulations!! 4 th Grade - Riley Clements, Matthew Brown, Vincenzo Mugnolo 5 th Grade - Layne Cuddy, Ryan Endrst, Kylie Jackson, Bre Combes Lunch Menu for December 21 st FYI – The December 21 st lunch menu is Chicken, Vegetable, Fruit and Milk. Dress for the Weather The cold weather is here! Please remind your child(dren) to bring a coat, hat and gloves to school. They will go outside for recess unless the wind chill temperature is below 10 degrees. CCIS Winter Coat Closet Mrs. Cowherd’s 4 th grade class is collecting winter clothes of all sizes (jackets, hats, scarves, gloves, boots) to help Coal City Intermediate School provide FREE clothing to the public. Please place your donations in the bin in the CCIS Office. Thank you for helping us to help others! The Winter Coat Closet will be open from 4:15 – 6:15 p.m. at CCIS on January 10 th . Vacations and Attendance Each school day missed/absent during a family vacation is counted as an absence. In order for the absences to be considered excused, the office must be made aware of the pre-arranged absence at least 3 school days in advance of the absence EVEN if your child will only be gone for one day. After 9 days of absences of any kind, all additional absences will be considered unexcused unless we receive a doctor’s note in order to be compliant with current truancy laws. Please see page 10 in our Handbook (found on the school webpage) or contact the office if you have any questions.

Attendance Letters When/if your child accumulates 5 and 10 absences, you will receive an email and/or letter in the mail reminding you of your child’s absence totals. If there is anything we can do to support your child’s attendance, please let us know. Coal City Baseball and Softball Registration Coal City Baseball and Softball Registration is now open through January 8th at www.ccaybs.com. Late Registration with a $20 late fee is January 8th - January 15th. In-person registration date/time is TBD. All new and returning families must create a new account since we have changed our website provider. This registration is open to all Coal City and surrounding towns interested families. There is a payment plan option this year. Any questions please email the club at [email protected]. Chicago Wolves Read to Succeed CCIS students will have a chance to participate in the Chicago Wolves Read To Succeed program. Students who participate will need to read and record a total of 4.5 hours, and then Mrs. Vignocchi will give the student a sheet to choose from one of six Wolves games to attend. The student will then mail it in to the Wolves for a free ticket for the game of their choice. Need Help? Whether you are displaced from your home, need school supplies, financial assistance or just need someone to talk to, CCIS is here for you. Please contact us if you need help. We can connect you with one of our school social workers and/or other local resources. We care about you!
