Coaching Plan: Goals
• To assist Mrs. Geiger in engaging her students in a possible career in chemistry
• Ensure that she explains the real world application and value of chemistry and is economic value as a career.
• Work with Mrs. Geiger to establish a portfolio of carriers in chemistry.
• Work with her to establish field trips wherein students can see what chemistry looks like in the outside of the classroom and in the professional world.
• Establish a career/education flow chart for students interested in a career in chemistry.
Coaching Plan: Create awareness
• Schedule meetings with Mrs. Geiger and the Principle to discuss methods of showing students realistic job prospects using education chemistry as a motivational tool.
• Implement a school wide PR campaign to showcase the benefits of a career in chemistry.
• Develop a means wherein students who win prizes for creating the most functional new substance can get their creation patented and trademarked (paid for by the school).
Coaching Plan: Mandi Geiger Portfolio
• Twelfth Grade Chemistry teacher at Kelsey High School.• Teaches remedial classes as well as advanced passed classes.• Desirers to work with at risk students and “future dropouts of
life”• Mrs. Geiger awards prizes every year for students who develop
new functional substances in her labs.• Mrs. Geiger encourages investigation and student critical
thinking• Mrs. Geiger’s classes never has behavioral problems
Coaching Plan: Action Plan
• Initiating meetings with Kelsey High School administration.
• Assemble a collection of professions and their salaries wherein an education in chemistry is necessary.
• Monitor grades and other student performances and offer statistical data on classroom progress.
• Aid students in filing patents and trademarks for functional substances developed in the lab
Coaching Plan: Monitoring Progress
• Holding follow up meetings with Mrs. Geiger to discuss what areas have improved and any areas of concern
• Keeping a detailed log and report of students from her class that go on to pursue a higher education in chemistry and any honors or awards the achieve.
• Tracking and logging patents and trademarks awarded to students.
• Actuarial reports and statistics of student’s educational performance for administrative use.
• Allowing Mrs. Geiger to further aid her students with exceptional learning needs by helping her students to see the practical application of a chemistry education beyond the confines of the classroom and as a potential career. • The involvement of Mrs. Geiger in the
implementation and planning process will grant her a sense of control • Getting administrative support in her
endeavors will strengthen the overall plan. • Mrs. Geiger can effect a great deal more
positive change for at risk students.
