Special Rules to Remain in Force During ihecontinuance of ihis Time Table.

1. The clockin the Train Dispatchel"5 ofllce at Eagle Grove andin the telegraph office at Burt and Hawarden. will be taken as theStandard Time.

2. The days on which trains are due to leave and arrive at theirterminal stations are indicated on the top and bottom of Time Table.

3. Trains running EAST 01' SOUTH will have the absoluteritrht of track over trains of the same or inferior class running in theopposite direction.

4. Trains running West or North will keep entirely out of theway of trains of the same 01 sufm'itll‘ class running in the oppositedirection.

5. At any station where limit boards are erected or yard limitsspecified, and at all junction points, all trains must approach atreduced speed, with train under control, so that a full stop may bemade at such distance from the limit board, or junction switch, aswill prevent the possibility of accident; engines switching may beexpected on main track at any time.

6. Northern Iowa Division trains will be governed by the rulesand regulations of the Iowa Division between Tower Sa, and Tamafreight yard.

7. All trains going in either directionmust come to a full stop atJewell Junction before entering upon the track used jointly by theNorthern, Western and Iowa Divisions, and be absolutelysure, beforegoing on that track, that every thing is clear.

8. All trains will come to afull stop before entering the maintrack of the Ir 8: M. Division at Fox Lake, know that the way isclear, and be governed by the rules and regulations of that division.

9. All trains from the Burt and Fox Lake Line will come to s. ,

15. When from any cause it is necessary to back up a train, theConductor must stand on the rear platform while it is in motion.

16. Way freight trains will have the preference to main track atmeeting points with other trains of same class, when necessary, to dotheir work.

17. Bad order cars must not he set out when they can be hauledto a repairing station, unless it will cause seriousdelay to time freightor stock trains.

18. No cars will be left on passing tracks unless instructed to doso by Train Dispatcher.

19. When trains are at stations awaiting the arrival of othertrains to meet or pass, trainmsn will keep at least fifty feetaway from the switches until the expected train has passed, to avoidany possibility of an accident by throwing a switch in front of anapproaching train.

20. Cleaning fires, ash pans and front ends of Engines, outsideof round house terminals, can be done at the following stations only,and then inside of and away from all switches and buildings:

Gladbrook, Bancroft,Webster City, Sioux Rapids,Bradgate, Jewell Jet,Alton, Dakota City,Gifford, Peterson,

23. Trainmen will be called at their homes, or in theirway oars,one hour before leaving time. The Caller will not be required tolook elsewhere for them.

24. Trains scheduled to stop at Sioux Rapids for meals, willstand at the Hotel platform, just over the west switch on main track.All approaching trains from either direction must be under fullcontrol, expecting to find these trains standing there.

25. Empty tank line, furniture, woodenware, refrigerator, beercars, etc., will take preference over dead freight. Cars loaded withagricultural implementsmust not be delayed and will be treated thesame as perishable property as regards time. Foreign and specialservice cars must be accompanied by way bill, showing properdestination. Wrecked or damaged cars will not be taken in trainsunless accompanied by regular way bills, showing when and wheredamaged, and designating the shops to which they are to be sent.

26. When the telegraph signal is clear trains will not receiveclearances in the district where block signal rules are in effect.Freight trains goingWEST will not be required to stop for a. clear-ance at Havelock or Sutherland, nor going [ACT at Maurice orIreton, as per rule 209. Conductors and engineers must keepxa sharplookout for signals. Freight trains will not pass the stations men-tioned without the engineers getting a “go-ahead ” signal from therear end. Failing to get such signal rule 121 should govern.

27. Engineers will test aiiubrakcs on all trains by making aslight application at least two miles from all stopping and meetingpoints, railroad crossings. drawbridg'cs, m' interlocking system ofswitches. This test should also be made at summit of heavy grades.

28. No train or engine will pass over interlocking switches at aspeed exceeding fifteen (15) miles an hour.

29. When scheduled refrigerators are not in trains leavingterminals, or there is insufficient room for shipments, the Conduc-tor Will ask the Train Dispatcher for instructions. Packages ofbutter should never be loaded on top of packages containing eggs.They must be carried or trucked to position in car. Cases of eggsshould be placed lengthwise of the car, and where cross-bars arefurnished, they should be put in place as car is loaded Butter andeggs should not be piled so high that packages will fall and breakopen in the car. Care must be taken that the air-tight doors areproperly shut tight and fastened. Ascertain that the ice compart-ments are supplied with a sufficient amount of ice for the run, anddrip pipes are clear, before starting. In loading cars, Agents andConductors will load butter in the east or south end of car, and eggsin the west or north end.

30. After a passenger train has made a stop at a station, it mustnot be moved to take coal, water, or to do other work until the pas~sengershave alightod, and the Conductor signifies by the usual signalthat the train can be moved.

31. When necessary to flag trains for passengers to get on, acombinationof a green and white flag will be used by day and a greenand white light by night.

Station employee will place these signals in a convenientplace. At flag stations, where there are no employee on duty,engineers will recognise hand signals given by passengers

1. As soon as the rear car carr ing markers passes your signal, displaysignal to danger position, keeping i in that position until ten minutes haveelapsed. No exception to Rule No. 1 will be allowed, unless authority for thesame is received from the Train Dis atcher.

2. Train Dispatchers may cut orize an operator to allow a train to followanother less than ten minutes. by use of the caution card, in which event he willsend an order of the following form :

When a telegraphic train order is sent as or form 215 in Book of Rules, itwill, in addition to the trains interested. be ad ressed (when practicable) to theoperator at the meeting point. who will display his red signal, and hold thesuperior train until the inferior train specified in the order has arrived. or hissignal has been released b the receipt of an order under form 216 or 224. 2. The block signals will be used (or train orders and all rules applying to train order signalswill apply to the block signals when being used for train orders.

3. Red is an indication that the block is not clear. and signifiesno .Green is an indication that the block is clear. and signifies procoe -On a. double-armed semaphore the right-hand arm to a train approaching governs the train

moving in that direction.Horizontal is the e ulvalent at stop.Diagonal is the equ valent oi proceed.4. When a. train approaches a block signal. and it Is changed to dis anal. it will indicate that

the block in clear to the outer approachingswilc of the lock station ahead.If the signal is at danger it will indicate that the block is hold ior your own or other train. or that
