Initial situation / prior needs

Initial situation

1. Production objectives for the AB contract and other

contracts

2. New activities for the Distroff site: manufacturing of

parts and assembling of guns

3. Empty assembling hall / trestles – supports – blank

sheet

Prior needs

1. Motivation and involvement of operators and

supervision

2. Large autonomy to implement the project

8 January,

20184

Objectives of the project

8 January,

20186

Attain the production objectives of the AB contract: Resources to adapt for assembling at least one gun per day and deployment of most appropriate means

Assembling of a gun:

Over a period of 7 hours

Per station, with two operators (configuration at the start of the LEAN worksite)

Safety: optimize the ergonomics of handling operations and gestures and postures of operators assembling the cannon

Reduce the use of travelling cranes to a maximum

Facilitate the handling operations of parts and subassemblies

Cost reduction (Improvement plan 11)

What has been done / put in place

8 January,

20187

A set of tools and support for:

An assembly line composed of two workstations:

First workstation: Assembling the gun (before and after decoring)

Feeding of line by racks of empty and full lines

Feeding of racks and list placement to be used by the little train

Second workstation: Gymnastics (firing simulation by mechanical means) of

the gun (before and after decoring)

Installation of a sequencer: tool used to materialize the customer’s request and

to response as accurately as possible. It determines the assembly sequence on

the line

Sustainable/reproducible nature of the

project

Project carried out to:

Meet the delivery objectives of the AB contract

assemble the 4 guns proposed by the Defence sector on an assembly line

Assembly line transposable to the different sites of the Defence sector, to the

future defence customers.

Measured impact

The objective of assembling a gun per workstation with two operators is

achieved ( LEAN)

Assembling operation facilitated thanks to toos designed and built by the

operators

Great staff motivation and involvement

Improvement of safety* in assembling guns

8 January,

201816

* For information, the number of days without accident at Distroff in November 2017 is 3217
