Are You Ready?

We began 2011 with” Were off and running” and that is exactly what we did. The Covenant Riders took off running and never looked back. Every month our calendar was loaded with rides, church

visits, CMA rallies and biker ministry opportunities and don’t forget the chapter meetings. We generously supported Run for the Son. Although it rained most of the weekend of Spooks and

Scoots the event was a complete success. The chapter came together at the end of the year and decided they liked the direction we were going and voted to keep all the officers intact for 2012. I personally feel humbled, honored and blessed. The last event of our year is the High Noon Ride I

hope you enjoyed it. I was a pleasure to host the 19th annual outreach. We have big shoes to fill in 2012. Our shoes are a little worn but I am confident that the Covenant Riders will get there

boots tuned up for the New Year. We are gearing up to serve and modestly change the world one heart at a time.

Last year I wrote a newsletter article that said everywhere we go people want to know who we are and where we come from. So we tell them. We are a CMA chapter who is committed to share

the Gospel of Jesus Christ. People still want to know who we are and where we come from. Just show up where bikers are and you will see what God is doing. Ready?

RAY REDDING

President Covenant Riders Tampa Florida 813 679-7450

Here is how you can respond to the Gospel:

Receive it. You receive the Gospel. You’ve got to make it your own. You’ve got to know that Jesus Christ is yours.

Replicate it. I don’t just want to see myself saved. I want to see other people saved. I want to see this replicated. How great would this year would be if you got to pray with someone to receive Christ?

Repeat it. Be to others as God has been to you. You deserve nothing; you got everything. Treat other people the way you’ve been treated by Christ.

Harley Davidson’s zumo 665 GPS

Being a more traditional kinda guy, and more set in my ways the older I

get, I’ve always resisted the idea of using technology to keep from getting lost while on the road. I mean, I always figured you gear up, start the bike and point in the general direction of your destination and

kickstands up. Besides, who really needs riding help from a system of 24 orbiting satellites circling 11,000 nautical miles out in space, and put

there by the Department of Defense?!? Then, I happened to use some of my credit card points to get the frau a nice GPS (Global Positioning

System) Navigation device for her little red sports car. It was an eye opening experience to take our first road trip without a single foldable (well….sort of) paper map anywhere in the car! So, being the

reasonable soul that I am, I was forced to consider that perhaps I’d been wr…. Uh… That I’d perhaps misjudged the little electronic space-age suckers.

So, I started to cautiously look into the features and capabilities of the various motorcycle GPS units available on the current market. And, being a lifelong fan of The Motor Company and their

products (yeah, I know… the “HD” stands for Hundreds of Dollars…) I decided to study up on the Harley Davidson Road Tech™ zūmo 665 GPS Navigator with XM®. This unit, built for HD by

Garmin, is the current top of the line. The motorcycle-friendly navigator with stereo Bluetooth, XM satellite radio, weather, and traffic, is ready to show you the way no matter where you’re going. Plus, you can use the zūmo in your car and get double use out of it. Now, briefly, some of

the cooler features:

This thing seems to be real easy to read since it features a bright 4.3” touchscreen color display using easy-to-read formats. I haven’t actually tested this,

but Harley claims that the zūmo 665 also has a glove-friendly interface that makes entering information

“easy as shifting gears”. A couple of the claims I find to be vaguely puzzling: the rugged waterproof case “resists fuel” and is water resistant to 30 feet for 30

minutes. Just between you and me – If I’m in fuel up to my handlebars, or the GPS is submerged for 30

minutes in 30 feet of water; I’m thinking I’ve got other, larger problems than whether my GPS is gonna be all right…. I’m just sayin’….

Page 4: CMA Covenant Riders Jan 2012 Newsletter

Covenant Riders January 2012 Newsletter Come Ride With Us

4

The zūmo 665 comes standard with a GXM 40 XM antenna. Add an optional XM subscription and receive real-time XM Radio with 170 digital channels of music, news, sports, and talk. The really

cool thing is, with the addition of XM NavWeather, you can access up-to-the-minute weather data and NEXRAD radar graphics to stay ahead of storms! Plus, you can add XM NavTraffic, find out

where the trouble spots are, and route around them. Our Road Captain will love the “ignore U turns” feature (which I will not go into any further. He knows where I live!).

The zūmo 665 is preloaded with City Navigator NT street maps, which reportedly offers full mapping for the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, and millions of motels, greasy spoons,

gas stations, ATMs and more importantly: ice cream shops! (The H-D version also reportedly has the locations of every nearby H-D dealership or service shop for when those bad

things happen to good bikes.) It also has lane assist with junction view to make sure that you'll be in the right lane at the

right time, and even has an electronic digital fuel gauge so you can keep track of how many miles before it’s time to get gas!

There’s a lot more to these units than I have time or room here to talk about – I just wanted to give enough info for those who might want to check into this unit themselves. I’m gonna keep

reading up – and maybe even get one from Santa…

Finally, as important as it is to know where we on the physical roads we ride, it’s more important to know where we are on the roads of life. The Bible tells us, in Isaiah 30: 18-21, that if we will realize we need Him and cry out to Him, He will come to us and give us and our lives direction so

we stay on the right road. “18But God's not finished. He's waiting around to be gracious to you. He's gathering strength to show mercy to you. God takes the time to do everything right—

everything. Those who wait around for him are the lucky ones. 19-22Oh yes, your time of tears is over. Cry for help and you'll find it's grace and more grace. The moment he hears, he'll answer…. Your teacher (the Lord) will be right there, local and on the job, His voice urging you on whenever

you wander left or right: "This is the right road. Walk down this road." “

It’s important that we understand that we need His GPS (God’s Positioning System), and use it just by asking Him “where do I go from here?”

Stay safe out there! Hack

"Faith, mighty faith, the promise sees, And looks to God alone; Laughs at impossibilities, And cries it shall be done."

-Charles Wesley (a leader of the Methodist movement, younger brother of John Wesley,

writer of many blessed hymns)

Summing it up

I thought as Treasurer of our chapter, it would be appropriate to title my Jan

newsletter article “Summing it up". The end of the year seems to be a time when we reflect back on the year and try to figure out "where did the year go?” For those of us part of Covenant Riders, it has been a whirlwind year and

I cannot believe it has come to an end. But, we sure did have some FUN!

Our chapter went on over 25+ organized rides - Attended state, local and national CMA rallies - Participated in various ABATE and other local motorcycle events - Presented the CMA program to various church groups - Did Bike

Blessings over many bikes and their riders - Ministered to men, women and children with the gospel of Christ - Shared in ministry with other CMA chapters - Raised money for Run for the

Son missions outreach for CMA - Enjoyed many, many meals with our CMA friends and family ... Not to mention the gallons of ice cream that was consumed - The list could go on and on.

But, the common thread was we did it "together". Each event attended was special because of the fact we shared a special gift. During the Christmas and New Year season, it is easy to get

caught up in the whirlwind of events and activities that sometimes we forget the "special" reason why we do what we do. We all cannot attend every event every time something happens, but

when we attend, we bring that "special" gift with us - the gift that was given to us thru the birth of Jesus. When we come to events with the love of God in our hearts, we cannot help but share that "special" gift of Christ's love thru our actions to others.

As this year closes and the 2012 year will be upon us before we know it ... I want to wish all my

CMA friends and all the new biker friends I have made this past year a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Finally ... I will be looking for you to join us in 2012!

By Jude Redding Looking back on 2011 is very exciting to me. Our Chapter saw a knitting together of the members

in purpose and in friendship. The chapter also saw growth with new members and much interest. We were very busy last year beginning with the High Noon Ride on New Year’s Day; not stopping

until the High Noon Ride December 31, 2011. Our Chapter loves to ride; we had two Chapter rides per month, not to mention breakfast rides,

local bike events, Daytona Biketoberfest, Leesburg Bike Fest, Plant City Bike Fest, Zephyrhills Music & Motorcycles, Daytona Bike Week, Mini O’s, CMA State Rally in Starke, Spooks N Scoots

weekend, and everything in between! We love to ride; “Come Ride with us!” A group of us rode to Hiawassee Georgia for the National CMA Rally last June and rented a house

for a week together and we came back friends!! That is amazing!!

The highlight of the year for me was the hospital visits that touched the recipient, their families and their friends. A hospital visit is intensely personal, emotional and satisfying to give someone the hope you have within you.

Another highlight is when someone will stop us as we are walking about an event and a story of

some ‘CMA’ people how they helped them out and forever changed a person’s life. There have been many times we have heard wonderful stories about our brothers & sisters in CMA all over

the country. It’s important to me to respect our patch when I am in it; because there are people watching to

see if I live up to it. I enjoy the personal interaction and the way CMA reaches people by relationships; not just tossing tracks to the wind but caring for people and when the chance is

presented giving someone the hope that changes lives. We are coming up to another year and I can tell you it promises to be an exciting, busy and

rewarding one. We have lots of fun, enjoy special friendships as a chapter; like a family and love to ride.

If you are looking for nice people to ride with “Come Ride with Us!”

If you are looking for ministry opportunities; “Come Ride with Us!!”

We will be looking for you!! Lets Ride!

By Bill Howe, Chaplain

Where are you headed? As the chapter in our lives, known as 2011, has ended, and

we turn the calendar forward to 2012, I would like to spend a moment reflecting on the chapter highlights of the past year,

and peek ahead into the coming months with the goal of making better use of our time and talents. In the “business” of ministry, and that’s what this body called CMA is all about,

we can easily find ourselves scurrying here and there looking for opportunities to be productive servants and disciples of the

Lord Jesus Christ. Sometimes we are “successful” and are greatly rewarded with an opportunity to lead someone to the

Lord. Other times we are allowed to pray with someone or even do a bike blessing. All of these are worthy of the time and effort that it requires to be able to do them. But just how do we achieve a healthy balance in

our lives and still feel like we are doing enough of “going out into the world” and sharing the Gospel with the lost and dying world?

Some of the highlights that our chapter experienced this past year included leading several people to the Lord, producing a successful Children’s Ministry at Spooks and Scoots, having 12 members

attend the National Rally in Hiawassee, GA, adding several new patched members to our chapter, and having to change our annual High Noon Ride location after many years at Lowry Park and still

having a great turnout. Let’s begin the quest for an answer to our question of achieving a healthy balance, by first

recapping a few of last years events that Covenant Riders participated in hoping to make a difference. Our participation in 2011 included: CMA’s National Rally in Georgia, our State Rally in

Starke, Season’s of Refreshing in Sebring, our State Officer’s Training in Deland, Run For the Son, Covenant Riders High Noon Ride, Daytona Bike Week, Biketoberfest, ABATE’s Spooks N Scoots, Ride to The Heartland, Stunt Wars in Orlando, ABATE meetings, church visits to share the news of

CMA, bike nights in Plant City, Unity bonfire in St. Pete, Leesburg Bike Week, Peterson’s Key West Ride, Wreaths Across America, MC events, chapter events, and the list could go on and on. Were

those events meaningful and worthwhile in kingdom building? I believe that we had a meaningful purpose in those events. Were others’ lives changed or improved as a result of our being in those places? That’s why we go. Hopefully the answer is yes.

In closing, we strive to maintain a healthy balance between our job, ministry, family, and

personal time. Our love for the Lord and obedience bid us to continue participating in this extensive ministry, always hoping that we won’t burn out. Our productiveness is greatly affected by our mental and personal health. We must be cautious in our zeal to fulfill the great

commission so we don’t become a casualty of our doing.

Where are you heading in 2012? Looking forward to seeing you there! Remember, many hands make light work! Blessings,

By Ray Esparza, Road Captain

CMA’s Covenant riders took a couple of rides since our last newsletter.

We took a ride to Titusville for lunch at Dixie Crossroads in early

November. If you ever find yourself in Titusville, Dixie Crossroads is a

must stop as the rock shrimp is delicious. We had a large group that

rode the 365 mile trip that included 25 people on 16 bikes and an

additional 2 people that met us at the restaurant who flew in an airplane

to Titusville.

We also participated in Rolling Thunder Florida’s Chapter 11 Benefit ride

for SSG Dustin Magner. We rode with a very large group that included many bike clubs (AmVets, LAMAs,

Rolling Thunder, Special Ops). There were approximately 60 to 70 bikes participating from the East as we

rode to O’Briens Irish Pub for lunch. Covenant Riders were represented by 8 people on 6 bikes.

When preparing to ride in cold weather,

several layers of clothing are necessary,

usually starting with thermal underwear.

Extra layers of pants, shirts and jackets

should be layered loosely to aid body heat

in forming a warm insulation. Topping your

clothing with a windproof outer layer will

prevent the cold wind from reaching your

body.

Another alternative when riding in cold

weather is to wear a snowmobile suit.

These lightweight, insulated suits provide

the warmth needed to prevent

hypothermia. Another option available to

motorcyclists is an electrically warmed suit

or vest. These items hook up to the

motorcycle battery and can be quite effective.

Whether you ride in a warm or cold climate, in a rural area or the city, a good selection of high-quality

riding gear will help you stay comfortable in all weather and riding conditions. And, if you have an accident

or spill, it could save you from serious injury.

I thought I’d also include NOAA’s wind chill chart for you to keep on your bike to remind you how cold the

temperature will feel when you are cruising the roads.

THE LONE SALUTE

We had the honor and privilege to participate in the Wreathes Across America tribute to our fallen veterans this year and what an honor and a privilege it was. I say “privilege” because a privilege

is something of a special right or favor given to a person or a group. As Americans, we are free to do pretty much what we please whenever we want as long as it doesn’t offend someone else.

What we do with our freedom is up to us; it is our own responsibility. So given that privilege, we gladly accepted it and looked upon it as a responsibility. And I say with “honor” not because of who we are or what we have done but rather we had the honor, or responsibility, to pay honor, to

the fallen veterans that have gone before us. Giving honor is giving great respect because of worth, noble deeds or high rank; it is given as a sign of respect. Giving of one’s time in the

military for a cause, or on behalf of another, is worthy of our honor. It is especially so for those who have fought for others freedom and paid the ultimate price. So it was an honor to represent

CMA, whom by the very nature of our organization, honors God, to participate in this event. So next year, mark your calendars for December 01, the first Saturday in December so you too can participate in a rapidly growing tribute that honors our fallen veterans and honors those among us

by just being there.

As for the “Lone Salute”, along the way to Webster, in the middle of no-where and miles from anyone else, a car had pulled off the road. As we rolled closer, we witnessed an amazing site. Not only had this man pulled off the road but he had also shut off his car, gotten out and stood

solemn and erect. With his right hand perfectly in place, eyes straight ahead and motionless, he offered a lone salute. Not to us passing by but to the honor of fallen comrades who had passed

before him. A mile down the road I had tears rolling down my checks as I realized that guy really got it; what honor is all about. His is life more richly lived because he knows and chooses to do something about it; honor the lives of others. Maybe that’s why the Bible tells us to honor the

Sabbath. If we do, we might just learn about some incredible things in life. Let us never forget, may we honor the lives around us and may we always honor God as we ride for His glory. God

bless you all and ride safe. Anonymous

Culture Watch by Cathy

It is interesting to see what makes headlines in our culture year after year. Sadly, headlines have become about all I read most of the time since the daily news has gotten so depressing and so slanted and full of half truths and even lies. I usually just pick out a few key articles to keep up-

to-date on the local and world news. I skip the rest of the crap in the local "fish wrap!" I know that's admitting to ignorance on my part, but at least it has been blissful ignorance. My world is a

little nicer, not worrying about all the dogs and cats being abused, and all the local and international crime in my backyard, and the boogieman behind every bush.

When I was a child, although there were plenty of negatives in the news, a child could at least still read the newspaper and watch the news on TV without being exposed to extremely shameful

topics. I used to use newspapers for current events in my classroom, but some of the stories of murders, rape, heinous crimes, and global terrorism have gotten so morbid, sexual, kinky, gruesome, and graphic, that I no longer risk it. This stuff makes me ashamed for humanity.

When I was a child, I didn't ever hear non-stop talking heads pouring out scary, and threatening

news, like today's commentators do. Some of the top stories today aren't as much about threatening situations as they are about shocking situations. The "shocking" stories are like thermometer gauges of whether or not you should risk leaving your comfortable house to run up

to the store for something you want, or think you need, or just staying home with your lock and your glock. Random acts of violence have made us insecure even in our own homes, cars, schools

and public spaces.

America is committing "cultural suicide" and self-destructing. We sense it. We know it. We're unwinding! More and more people have a sense of helplessness and powerlessness. There is an ever-increasing disregard for morality on TV and in the movies. We have become hardened with

the countless episodes of lawlessness that are paraded before our eyes in the mass media. Our culture is saturated with permissiveness and tolerance, and people everywhere are lacking in

judgment and direction. These are not just people somewhere else in the world, they are our neighbors, our co-workers, our countrymen. This problem is not isolated only to the United States. Lawlessness, hopelessness and violence are exploding around the entire world.

So what's the bottom line? Truly the world's cultures, as a whole, have rejected God's Word, and have been given over by God, to a reprobate mind that seeks self-gratification. And since they

did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. Romans 1:28

The apostle Paul wrote of the last days, just prior to the Lord's return. For people will be lovers

of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal,

not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. 2 Timothy 3:2-5

The Bible says: Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character. 1Cor. 15:33 Choose your company wisely!

12

Hang in there! Here's last bit of the tough, but necessary news. And ye shall be hated of all men for My Name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved" Matthew 10:22

Endure, maintain, witness, get bold for Christ, love, forgive, tell everyone with ears to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ, live soberly, expect rejection, keep on keep'n on, and it will be worth

it all! Soon and very soon we are going to see our King!

Things To Ponder

EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE HAPPY

Everybody wants to be happy. That is the great motive behind every act and ambition, behind all

work and all striving and effort. Everything is designed for happiness. But the great tragedy of the world is that, though it gives itself to seek for happiness, it never seems to be able to find it. The

present state of the world reminds us of that very forcibly. What is the matter? I think the answer is that we have never understood this text as we should have done: "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness." What does it mean? Let me put it negatively like this. We

are not to hunger and thirst after blessedness; we are not to hunger and thirst after happiness. But that is what most people are doing. We put happiness and blessedness as the one thing that

we desire, and thus we always miss it; it always eludes us. According to the Scriptures happiness is never something that should be sought directly; it is always something that results from seeking something else. -D. Martyn Lloyd-Jone

Fundamentally, our Lord's message was Himself. He did not come merely to preach a Gospel; He

himself is that Gospel. He did not come merely to give bread; He said, "I am the bread." He did not come merely to shed light; He said, "I am the light." He did not come merely to show the door; He said, "I am the door." He did not come merely to name a shepherd; He said, "I am the

shepherd." He did not come merely to point the way; He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." --J. Sidlow Baxter (Australian born English pastor and theologian)

My Daily Prayer Is

"If you can use anyone Lord you CAN use Me "

I NEVER want to find myself so busy caught up in stuff; that I would forget to pray for others because that's all it really is STUFF. This year I was so Blessed I was able to attend The CMA State Rally in Hiawassi, Georgia; something I had only dreamed of attending. My prayer was

answered.

What an experience to meet so many brothers and sisters from so many different places and all walks of life. Everyone's heart beats to the rythm of the heart of God. We had great time of worship to start the day and we learned so much about CMA and the workshops were great.

The morning of our last day of The Rally, God answered my prayer. "If you can use anyone Lord

you can use me". While I was sitting by myself, this gentleman pulled up a chair and asked if he could sit next to me. I smiled and said sure. During that time the worship leader felt lead to stop worship and take a moment for everyone to pray for one another. As I asked the gentleman

sitting beside me, Gene, if I could pray for him or for a petition he might have, he said sure. ‘Can you please pray for my best friend Herb who is not doing well.’ So we held hands and we prayed

for Herb. (At that moment I did not know his best friend was Herb Shrives.) After praying I offered him my ministry card and asked him to please contact me when he got home so I

would know they made it home safe and to keep me updated on how his friend Herb was doing. Gene smiled and said yes he will.

All of a sudden it hit me, his best friend was Herb Shrives. It was a ‘Wow God’ for me moment at that time. I was so blessed. Gene kept his promise. He kept me posted weekly on Herb's

progress and his downfalls through emails. I was so humbled that God allowed me to pray for Herb and Gene that morning. That Man I so loved for answering God's call, to reach the lost by the highways and byways; To win one Heart at a time. The Founder of CMA I was now able to

pray for him.

God saw my heart and chose me that morning to pray for them. You see, you never know what Father God is up too. Many times we feel so alone and so insignificant, that we are not being used by God; as we had been in the past. But that morning Father God reminded me that He is God.

He knew my hearts cry and chose that morning to remind me that He is so mindful of His children; and that we are ALL important to Him.

During that trip God gave me the opportunity to meet a man I so loved and never thought I would

meet. That night before I was able to take a picture with Herb as he enjoyed eating an ice cream cone.

We are not suppose to have regrets, but my only regret is that I was not able to attend The National

Rally where they celebrated Herb's Birthday; which would be his last one. I look forward to meeting him

in Heaven where we will forever celebrate our birthdays. There will be no sickness nor disease and we will worship The King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

14

I am grateful to God for the gift of meeting Herb and Gene. I am so blessed to be part of CMA

and for the beautiful family I have in this ministry and organization. My prayer is that we ALL continue to carry Herb's legacy and continue to pray for Gene, all of Herbs family and CMA as a

whole. That 2012 would be a year that all chapters continue to grow for God's honor and glory. There is a lost and dying world out there who NEEDS to know of God's love, grace and mercy. Let us ALL shine for Jesus. That others would want to know who this Jesus is through our testimonies.

Let us all be an example to them.

God bless you all and your families this coming New Year. I’m grateful to God for allowing P.K. to be our area rep. God continues to give him the wisdom and knowledge he needs to do the work God has called and chosen him to do in CMA. That we will all show him our love and appreciation

for all his work.

Let us never forget the quote Gene shared with me when Gene offered for Herb's motorcycle to be towed back home; when at one point Herb appeared to be very weak. "I have never failed to finish a ride," Herb said in the heat of the day, as we were sitting in a Rest Area on I-40 between

Memphis and Little Rock. That was his answer to my suggestion that we call home and ask somebody to come with a trailer to pick up him and his bike... So they continued till they made it

home. Herb was able to finish the ride.

THE ABSENCE OF SIN

"Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein

dwelleth righteousness." (2 Peter 3:13) For thousands of years the followers of God have battled against "principalities, against powers,

against the rulers of the darkness of this world" (Ephesians 6:12) led by Lucifer, that old serpent, the arch rebel and self-appointed accuser of the saints of God. Although assured of the ultimate

victory through our Lord Jesus Christ, Christians have often suffered cruelly at the hands of Lucifer and his followers.

As Christians, the aching longing in our hearts for peace is really none other than the Holy Spirit, Himself, grieving at sin, and our own new, holy nature "groaning" to be free in its expression of

the divine nature. It is the nature of the child of God to "hunger and thirst after righteousness" (Matthew 5:6). It is the normal thing for one "raised" up and already seated "in heavenly places in Christ Jesus" (Ephesians 2:6) to long for the shackles of the "body of this death" (Romans

7:24) to be loosened. Under ordinary circumstances, our spiritual being--"the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness" (Ephesians 4:24)--knows that we are

"strangers and pilgrims on the earth" (Hebrews 11:13). Such knowledge openly declares that we "desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city" (v. 16).

If we have lost sight of the place that Jesus has gone to prepare for us, we become both forlorn

and despoiled. But if we treasure the great truth that we will spend eternity with our Lord in His "new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness," we are comforted and

encouraged, recognizing that both sin and all its effects will be absent. --Henry M Morris III
