2 Clubs Programme - Autumn 2021

Introduction This edition of the After-School Clubs booklet reflects changes we have made in the clubs we offer, based on feedback and our desire to bring more and varied opportunities into the programme. Our clubs provision is constantly evolving as we seek fresh and inspiring ways to extend and enrich children’s learning and respond dynamically to their interests.

At the heart of our ambition for Blackheath Prep School is our commitment to providing the very best for all

children to enjoy and achieve. This includes having the widest possible range of opportunities both within and

beyond the curriculum. We offer extra-curricular opportunities through various types of provision delivered by

school staff, external providers and independent clubs, all with a view to increasing the range of experiences

that children have, enabling them to make informed choices for adult life. Activities are designed to be fun and

cater for a wide variety of interests.

We want to offer the scope for each and every child to find a passion, develop a talent, spark an interest or simply find pleasure in doing an activity with others. After-school clubs are a fantastic way of achieving this and we are excited to offer a wide range of clubs. This booklet outlines all of the clubs we have available, from singing and drama, to rugby and Munchkins football, computing and Forest School.

Some internal clubs are heavily oversubscribed every term and children are allocated to these clubs on a rotational basis. This allows as many children as possible to attend that club for at least one term. Whilst every effort is made to ensure that children are able to enjoy their choice of clubs, this is not always possible. Clubs may be cancelled if there are not enough participants.

We hope you will take time to explore what is on offer and encourage your child to try something new or continue taking part in a firm favourite.

We will be using the online SchoolCloud booking system for all clubs which will open on Thursday 8 July 8pm and will close on Sunday 8 August 8pm.

Please note that the clubs run by outside agencies require direct booking and payment to secure your place. The charge for all internal clubs run by staff will be added to your Autumn Term Fee invoice. Occasionally, fixtures and other events will mean that children may miss a club and in these circumstances, we regret that we are unable to provide a refund. The Autumn Term calendar is published at the beginning of next term. If you feel that too many sessions of a club are likely to be missed due to other events, you have the option to change or cancel your bookings.

.. .. .. .. .. .. . .. .. .. .. .. . .. .. .. .. .. .. . .. .. .. .. .. . .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. . .. .. .. .. .. . .. .. .. .. .. .. . .. .. .. .. .. . .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. . .. .. .. .. .. . .. .. .. .. .. .. . .. .. .. .. .. . .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. . .. .. .. .. .. . .. .. .. .. .. .. . .

Hama Beads Club HAMA Beads Club is a wonderful opportunity for children to use both sides of their brain at the same time as it is both a logical and creative activity. It is an excellent tool for supporting children’s hand-eye coordination and also in developing their fine motor skills. Children count, match and recognise various shapes and patterns!

When children explore HAMA beads, they are actually having to pay close attention to detail and focus their concentration on the present activity at hand. It helps children develop their ‘mindfulness’ and unwind peacefully from a busy day at school.

Children will enjoy exploring simpler ideas and can extend to creating more complex shapes and patterns and work together on bigger creative and imaginative projects!

Papier Mache Club Papier mache is a firm favourite here at Blackheath Prep. Paper can be modelled into anything! Papier mache takes the form of whatever mould you’ve used to shape it when wet. You can then decorate in any way you want. Great for little fingers and those who do not mind getting a little sticky!

Pop Art The ever-popular Pop Art is back for two sessions a week! In Pop Art, we will use images and icons that are popular in the modern world. This might include famous celebrities like movie stars and rock stars, commercial items like soup cans and soft drinks, comic books, and any other items that are popular in the commercial world. As artists, we will use these items to create art such as repeating the item over and over again, changing the colour or texture of the item, and putting different items together to make a picture.

Research has already shown that yoga can improve focus, memory, self-esteem, academic performance, and classroom behaviour, and can even reduce anxiety and stress in children.
