CLUB ONE SINGLE GROUP CLUB 1

CLUB 1 is a loosely organized group of single residents, both men and women, living at Colonial Heritage. Our purpose is to provide an atmosphere and space for single residents to meet and socialize comfortably with other singles. The objective is to provide an opportunity for our members to be able to participate in fun events. Members research and plan various activities in the local area including, but not limited to, Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Newport News. The membership is then notified through an email distribution list. Members can then decide to participate or not at their own discretion. Various Colonial Heritage entities organize events and activities in the ballroom that require payment and completion of an advance reservation form. For those events Club 1 members just need to write "CLUB 1" for “who would you like to be seated with” on the Event Registration Form, and they will be put at the CLUB 1 table. This is a great way to meet other singles that attend events in Colonial Heritage. There is a standing invitation for our members to join other members in The Grille for “First Friday”. This is a - “come if you feel like it” - kind of night, an informal opportunity to get to know each other better. First Friday is held on the first Friday of every month during Happy Hour in The Grille. Club 1 members informally gather to have a drink or two and decide if any members want to extend the evening by going to dinner. There is no pressure and no expectations. To sign up or learn more about CLUB 1 please contact:

Tom Taormina at [email protected], Ron Grosso at: [email protected], Barbara Savini at [email protected], or Nancy Ring at [email protected]

The Investment Club has recently been reorganized and the club is introducing some different approaches to help both novice and experienced investors gain knowledge and make new friends.

Topics of group interest are discussed with a focus on attendees offering their own experiences, perspectives and questions.

Our ongoing project is the development and management of a paper portfolio where we break out into small groups, selecting several stocks, mutual funds and ETFs. We’re already finding lots of additional questions and learning opportunities as we get started Only time will tell who the best investors will be…and why. Currently, there is no charge to join the club and coffee is free. So if you’re not busy on the third Thursday of each month at 9:30 a.m., why not come and join us?

NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR (N2N)

The primary goal of the Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program is to create a caring community by providing an opportunity for neighbors to reach out to neighbors in a helpful capacity, to welcome new people to the neighborhood, to facilitate

communications, and to support those who are ill, injured or recovering from surgery, if that support is welcome. Volunteers, serving as Block Captains, facilitate the goals of the N2N program.

The Block Captain position has no "term," can be changed at any time and can be aided by Co-Captains who share responsibility. “Blocks" within the community consist of smaller full blocks and divided larger

blocks. This is done to create a sense of small neighborhoods. Block Captains basic function is communicating with neighbors, greeting new neighbors when they move into the

neighborhood and attending periodic community N2N meetings.

PICKLEBALL Contact: Bruce Gregor, 571-242-2795, [email protected]

Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Two, three, or four players use solid paddles, made of wood or composite materials, to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a whiffle ball, over a net. The sport shares features of other racquet sports, the dimensions and layout of a badminton court, and a net and rules similar to tennis, with a few modifications. Pickleball was invented in the mid 1960s as a children's backyard pastime but has

become very popular among adults as well. If you are new to Pickleball, you may want to go to the Pickleball web site at USAPA.ORG for rules and video on how to play the game. There is equipment

available in the Athletic Center for you to check out, however, most of our regular players have extra equipment so just show up and we will be happy to help you learn the game and get

started. If you are hesitant because “you’ve never played” remember that most of the people playing at Colonial Heritage today didn’t know how to play before they moved here either!

Organized play is everyday of the week except Sunday. We vary the start time depending on the

time of the year (heat/cold, early light/late light) in accordance with the schedule below: Jun 16 - Sep 18 at 8:00 a.m. / Sep 19 - Nov 13 at 8:30 a.m. Nov 14 - Apr 30 at 9:00 a.m. / May 1 - Jun 15 at 8:30 a.m.

If you would like to add or remove your name from the Pickleball email group, simply send an email

to [email protected] requesting that addition/deletion.

PING PONG

If interested, please call or email .......

Tony Crocco ([email protected]) at 258-4629

For those who might be interested in regaining 30 or 40-year-old skills, several ping pong regulars have offered to hold skill building practice sessions Monday mornings from 10 am through noon in the Billiard room (located on lower floor of the Club House). These

sessions will be designed to give you time to regain your volley, placement and killer slam skills that you once had — it should not take long to hone that hidden competence — believe it or not, ping pong is almost like riding a bike. And also, did you know that a sweaty game of ping pong can burn more calories than a 30-minute workout on the

treadmill? AND it’s also fun to play!!

CLUBS & INTEREST GROUPS

Colonial Heritage Woodworkers Club We are a group of resident men and women who share an interest in woodworking. We have meetings once a month, September through June usually on the first Thursday of those months. During our meetings, we learn of various methods to improve our wood-working skills – be we beginners or experienced woodworkers. Additionally, following our meetings, we usually adjourn to the Woodshop in the Clubhouse and experience demon-strations using the power or hand tools in the Woodshop or complete hands-on projects under the mentoring of experienced members. We also enjoy field trips, such as trips to woodworking activities in Colonial Williamsburg, tours of woodworking enterprises in our community, visits to resident’s home woodworking spaces, etc.

Additionally, we share in social gatherings with our spouses and invited guests. We have an informal lunch gatherings before our monthly meetings – ordering off the menu. Then – during the holiday season – we have a Holiday Luncheon. Finally, in June, we have a pic-nic at a local park cooking hot dogs and hamburgers in the woods, naturally.

Please contact one of the members below if interested in finding out more about the club or joining us at one of our meetings as a guest to learn more about the Woodworkers Club!
