AFJROTCAFJROTC

• MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of the AFJROTC program is to • “Develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and

community”. Its objectives are to educate and train students in citizenship; promote community service; instill responsibility, character and self-discipline; and provide instruction in air and space fundamentals. Leadership training is provided at Summer Leadership schools, confidence courses, and organizing the AFJROTC group in the form of an active Air Force unit and assigning cadets to leadership positions where they are given specific responsibilities in running the unit. Curriculum related field trips are conducted to reinforce course subjects, e.g., space operations at NASA, aircraft operations at Wings-over-Houston and Air Force bases, etc.

ART CLUBART CLUB

• PURPOSE: Foster awareness to the spirit of art through visits to museums, galleries and local artists in our community. Art Club also seeks to further the aesthetic awareness in others as well as support Klein Oak in all endeavors by participation in Oakfest, the mini-carnival, numerous art displays, and Youth Art Month. Art club is open to all students.

• Officers are nominated and elected by the members. Officers must be present at all meetings and planned activities. If an officer is absent from 3 meetings, and/or planned activities, they will lose their officer position.

• PLANNED ACTIVITIES: Oakfest, KO Mini-carnival, Youth Art Month, Saturday Museum & Gallery visits, and one School Field Trip to the Pearl Fincher Museum.

BANDBAND

• The Klein Oak Band performs at various games and competitions throughout the year. There are four performing bands. Placement is based on audition. Previous experience on a traditional concert band instrument is required.

CHEERLEADING SQUADSCHEERLEADING SQUADS

• The varsity squad will be made up of a maximum of 14 cheerleaders. The candidates with the highest scores from the judges will be varsity cheerleaders for the following year. The squad will be open to junior and senior students.

• The junior varsity will be made up of a maximum of 12 cheerleaders and will be selected using the same scoring system. The squad will be open to sophomore, junior, and senior students.

• The freshmen squad will be made up of a maximum of 10 cheerleaders and will be selected using the same scoring system. The squad will be open only to freshmen students

KISD HIGH SCHOOL KISD HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADER/MASCOTCHEERLEADER/MASCOT

TRYOUT GUIDELINESTRYOUT GUIDELINES• PURPOSE: The cheerleaders will promote school spirit.• TRYOUT GUIDELINES• At the discretion of the campus administration, each candidate and/or parent(s)/guardian(s)/adult

designee must attend a mandatory tryout informational meeting. This meeting will include tryout procedures, tryout dates/times, tryout attire, and cheerleader expenses. Each candidate and his/her parent(s)/guardian(s) must sign a form stating that they understand and will comply with all information in the packet before the student is allowed to participate in the tryout process.

• Any change in the procedures outlined in this document requires the principal’s or administrative designee’s approval.

• The tryouts will be held during the second semester of the school year and no later than April 30 at the discretion of the campus administration. The date will not be during the week of the TAKS testing.

• Cheerleaders shall be selected by a scoring method that assigns a weight of 100% to the ratings given by a panel of judges.

• Students wishing to tryout for the cheerleading squad must return a completed application and parent/guardian permission form to the team sponsor no later than the first day of the clinic.

• At the time of tryouts, a cheerleader candidate must currently be a resident of the attendance zone in which the school for which the student is trying out is located, or have an approved transfer from the office of school administration to attend that school for the next school year.

CHOIRCHOIR

• PURPOSE: The choir program performs several concerts a year, presenting vocal music in many forms and styles. Students will sing in small groups, large groups, and may perform solos. Choral music covers everything from very old music to music that you might hear on your mp3 player. Students learn to read music, how to use their voice in a healthy manner, and learn to perform effectively for an audience. The choir is very active in the life of the campus and community. Annual Spring Trip destinations have included Dallas, San Antonio, Padre Island, Orlando, and New York.

• PURPOSE/GOAL: Bonjour! Are you a French student looking to meet cool people, improve your French, and have a great time? If so, French Club is the club for you! We have awesome activities planned throughout the year including laser tag, trips to French restaurants, and (everybody’s favorite) beating Spanish Club in broomball! There’s an old French saying that goes, “The man who knows two languages is worth two.” If you’ve already started to learn that second language, why not try having some fun with it?

• PURPOSE/GOAL: FTA is an outstanding organization that shapes the minds and hearts of every member to be not only an excellent teacher, but also an upstanding member in the community.

• "But I don't want to be a teacher," you may be saying. Well, that's the great thing about FTA. You don't necessarily have to want to be a teacher to be in this organization. Regardless of what career or occupation you will have in the future, teaching will be a critical part of your life. Many of the things learned in this organization can be used throughout life to help make your home, workplace, school, or wherever a better environment to be in. We are all teachers in one way or another.

• "The Honor Code Council is dedicated to preserving the honesty and integrity of the students here at Klein Oak. We meet several times throughout the year (sometimes during class! hooray!) to discuss and put into action new ways to advocate "the code". This includes making slides for the lunchtime announcements, putting up flyers around the school, and writing and performing in the fish camp skit. Not only is the Honor Code Council a great way to prepare you for the rigorous standards of honesty that colleges hold their students to, it's an awesome opportunity to meet new people and make friendships that will last throughout high school.“

• was created to provide education opportunities in dance, above and beyond the classroom, including attendance at professional performances as well as master classes, and to increase involvement in the Fine Arts Dance Program at Klein Oak. INMOTION meets once per month for student or professionally taught after school dance workshops in a variety of styles. Membership is open to anyone who is currently enrolled or has previously completed a semester of Dance at Klein Oak High School.  Fees are $15 per year (includes the yearly club t-shirt and will cover 1 master class fee). • MISSION STATEMENT: To produce a high-quality, competitive literary magazine showcasing selected writing and art from the Klein Oak High School student body.

• Club membership is open to all student currently enrolled in an English class. As this club is product oriented, students must be capable of executing certain tasks required in the production of a literary magazine. Students should possess an interest in one or more of the following areas: writing, editing, art, sales/distribution, advertising, page-layout and design. Students should also be committed to a yearlong effort with meetings that might increase in frequency as production moves into final stages.

KODanceCo / Advanced DanceKODanceCo / Advanced Dance

• - KODanceCo is the Advanced Dance class (level III-IV) at K.O. Admission to this level of dance is by AUDITION ONLY during the Spring of each year.  KODanceCo is open to only those students who love to dance and wish to continue a more intensive study into various forms of dance as well as the art of choreography.   KODanceCo and the KO Dance Program hopes to provide students with a liberal arts orientation to dance  with the intention to develop students who may become choreographers, dance scholars, and / or dance performers. In addition, the program welcomes those students who seek life enrichment through dance.  Membership will require students to participate in activities such as: extra rehearsals, master classes, conventions and performances beyond the school day including, but not limited to, the annual Dance Program Concert in the Spring.  For further information, please visit www.kodance.info or contact Mrs. Curry at [email protected].

Klein Oak Poetry ClubKlein Oak Poetry Club

• The mission of the Klein Oak Poetry Club is to provide a forum for Klein Oak students to share poetry and their interest in poetry by reading original student poetry, writing poetry, and reading other published poetry. Students will also support each other's interest in poetry by sharing information about various aspects of poetry. Students will encourage the greater student body in poetry appreciation by displaying student poetry during National Poetry Month [April] and possibly other times of the year.

• Klein Oak Poetry Club is open to all Klein Oak students currently enrolled in an English class. To be considered a member, students must attend meetings regularly and be willing to participate in various club efforts such as the poetry wall. The sponsor reserves the right to drop a student from membership if he/she is not actively involved.

MU ALPHA THETAMU ALPHA THETA

• Mu Alpha Theta is essentially a mathematics honor society. As such, its purpose and operation is quite similar to NHS (National Honor Society).

• Mu Alpha Theta serves to bring together students of common interests, providing new and enduring friendships. It acts as a service organization to the school, providing tutoring and provides community service in numerous activities such as charitable walks, Christmas supplies/gifts to children in need, and others.

• Finally, Mu Alpha Theta is an activity that listed on college applications carries great weight with the colleges and universities. It also provides outgoing senior members scholarships to help defray college costs.

National Honor Society for National Honor Society for Dance ArtsDance Arts

• - The primary mission of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA) and Lettering Program is to promote and honor outstanding dance achievement in KOHS students as well as encourage well-rounded dance artists to become leaders in their communities after high school graduation.  Student membership in the NHSDA and qualification for lettering shall be awarded on the basis of points earned for meritorious work in dance that meet the general guidelines and, when appropriate, on the basis of dance class grade point average. In addition, the prospective member’s demonstration of collaborative teamwork, motivation, and participation in the many aspects of dance (choreography, performance, teaching, production, etc.) is a factor in the determination of eligibility for membership.

• Orchestra performs in various concerts and competitions throughout the year. There are three performing Orchestras. Placement is based on audition. Previous experience on a traditional String Orchestra instrument is required.

• Make a stand and make a difference. Come and join PAWED – red ribbon week is just one of the activities that this club will work on! Make KO a drug free campus !!!

• PURPOSE: The purpose of the Science National Honor Society will be to foster an interest in science through extracurricular meetings and activities.

• We will work on interesting science-related projects as well as discuss current events in the science world. We will try to have at least two guest speakers a year to talk about their involvement in science.

SKILLS U.S.A.SKILLS U.S.A.COSMETOLOGYCOSMETOLOGY

• Cosmetology has a student organization called SkillsUSA. You must be enrolled in Cosmetology in order to participate in SkillsUSA. SkillsUSA along with Cosmetology prepares you for leadership in the world of work. We participate in hairstyling competitions, leadership conferences, and community service projects. Our biggest community service project has been to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana Chapter. Our annual Race for a Wish is held in April and thanks to the student body and faculty we have donated over $10,000 in the past 2 years.

• In Cosmetology we learn life long skills, Cutting, Styling, Coloring, Perming, Relaxing, Hair extensions, Up styling, Manicures, Pedicures and every aspect of running your salon or business. This is a great career for anyone who is self motivated, has a pleasing personality and attitude, who loves to travel, and meet new people.

• What do I have to do to be accepted into Cosmetology? You must have good attendance, grades, and conduct. You must apply your sophomore year and fill out an application. For freshman students let, your counselor know your intentions so you don't have to take a PE credit. The fees for cosmetology are very minimal (hundreds of dollars compared to thousands) as opposed to a private beauty school. We are looking for serious students who want to make this profession their career.

S.O.S.S.O.S.STUDENTS OF SERVICESTUDENTS OF SERVICE

• SOS is a club with members who dedicate themselves to serving others in the community. Throughout the year we actively visit nursing homes, rescue abandoned animals, and visit elementary schools for mentoring. At the start of the year we donate school supplies to needy children and par-take in may other drives, walk-a-tons, and activities. We strive to make the community a better place, one smiling face at a time.

• PURPOSE: During your years in high school, parents and teachers will always tell you to join as many after school activities as possible. By joining Speech and Debate, you will not only better your academics, you will grow as a person. You will go through many challenges in life, such as job and/or college interviews. If you can manage to stand in front of a room full of kids and give your opinion; then you can ace that interview. You don’t need to be a pro at arguing or expressing your opinion. All you need to have is a voice and determination.

STRUTTERSSTRUTTERS

• Statement of Purpose and Goals:__ The Klein Oak Strutters were established in 1982 with the opening of Klein Oak High School. The team is designed to provide an opportunity for each member's individual development in dance as well as time-management, self-esteem, self-discipline, and responsibility.  The Strutters perform at various athletic and local community events, participate in state and national Dance / Drill team competitions, attend summer camps, as well as participate in numerous community service activities.  Strutters is an exciting year-round commitment and is committed to serving the community and developing mature young adults who are prepared for all life has to offer once they leave Klein Oak.
