Continuing the Jones family tradition, the Club once again played host to the Ione D. TWO THOUSAND AND

thirteen started with

our “Live From New

York” New Years Eve

Celebration and the 6th

Annual Food & Wine

Fest that has become

many Members’ favorite

event of the year. Continuing the Jones family

tradition, the Club once again played host to

the Ione D. Jones/Doherty Championship

where Members and spectators watched some

of the best women amatuers in the state,

country and abroad battle for the 2013 title.

As we head into February, we wish all of our

competitive players good fortune as the Club

Championships get underway and the best

players at the Club are subsequently deter-

mined. In this issue you will also see events

ranging from our savory Seafood Buffets to our

Easter celebration, from the Tennis Valentine

Round Robin, to Golf Member-Guests; be

sure to make your reservations early. We look

forward to seeing you and your family, friends

and business associates at the Club.

All truly great clubs are characterized by

enthusiastic Members who “spread the word”

of what’s going on at their Club and bring

their family and friends to share in their

memorable Club moments. At the end of the

year we announced that children of members

will now have privileges under their parents’

accounts through age 28 and we also

announced a NEW Junior Legacy Program

for children of members that are between the

ages of 28-35. To date, we’ve re-activated the

Club privileges of over 70 children and had 10

new Members join under the legacy program.

We look forward to seeing you enjoy the Club

more with your family! Please spread the

word if you know of any member’s children

who would be interested in joining. In

addition, we thank you for continually talking

about your Club experiences with your

friends and business associates; you’ve created

a continuous flow of interested prospective

Members that have heard “you have to join

Coral Ridge.” We thank you again for

promoting your Club and for being so

welcome to new Members that are looking to

become a part of the Coral Ridge Family.

Tips for a

Smooth RoundFebruary and March

mark the height of the

golf season! Here are a

few tips to help make

your golf experience as

smooth as possible:

• Provide all of the names of the Members

and guests when making your golf reserva-

tion. This helps the staff prepare the golf

bags and carts for you.

• Check-in at the Golf Shop as soon as

practical, so we know that your group is here.

• Please be ready at the first tee at least (5)

minutes ahead of your scheduled time. Every

group that is late moves the next time back

and this is discourteous to other Members.

• Play “ready golf ” whenever possible. If each

person hits their shot when “ready” instead of

when they have honors, your group can save

several minutes each hole. (This should be

agreed upon by your group prior to play due

to possible match play rules issues.)

• Please never proceed to the 10th tee to

start play without consulting with the

Starter or Golf Shop first. It is imperative

that we know where golfers are on the course

at all times. This action may also interfere

with maintenance operations that are being

conducted.

• Take a lesson or practice more! Not only

can this make the game more enjoyable but

knowing your game better can quicken your

club and shot selection during play.

Caring for your CourseA fresh ball mark repaired by a player

takes only: FIVE SECONDS.

A freshly repaired ball mark will

completely heal in: TWENTY-FOUR

HOURS.

A fresh ball mark left unrepaired for only

one hour requires: FIFTEEN DAYS before

the ugly scar has satisfactorily healed.

Repairing ball marks isn’t just important

for the health of the green, for smooth-

rolling putt or etiquette. It is our obligation

to help take care of the golf courses we play.

Repairing ball marks is a big part of that

obligation to the game.

Use Clubs or Aim Sticks to

Practice EffectivelyThere is nothing wrong with hitting

drivers at the range, but there has to be some

structure and discipline to your practice.

Otherwise, you might do your swing more

harm than good. This drill will give you

purpose to your practice.

1. Identify a target. If you are focused on

where you want the ball to go, you will make

a more focused swing.

2. Lay a club or aim a stick down to the

right of the ball pointing at the target you

picked. Then lay a club or aim stick parallel to

the first club or stick, along the line of your

toes. You will see that the clubs or sticks will

look like railroad tracks. This will help with

your address being parallel to your target line.

3. Try to treat each shot as if it was a shot

you are hitting on the course.

Green Surfaces Open

J A Y B O R I N G

G O L F C O U R S E

S U P E R I N T E N D E N T

WITH THE COOL WEATHER

arriving and the rainy

months in the past, it is very

important to keep the green

surfaces open. We do this by solid tining

the greens on a bi-weekly basis. The

process involves making small holes in

the green surface, which helps the

movement of water to the root system

and promotes new root growth. We then

smooth the surface with a roller and

lightly topdress the greens. The impor-

tance of applying sand to the greens after

this process is extremely beneficial for

the overall quality of the putting surface;

the sand provides the smooth surface

everyone is looking for.

This entire process takes two days to

complete; which is why tee times will start

on #10 one day per week. I would like to

thank everyone for their cooperation.

Men’s Climb the Ladder

Doubles EventTwenty men participated in this unique

player who “climbed” the most courts and

ended up on court #1 was Herb Yardley.

Congratulations Herb! After the morning of

Special club events, wine dinners, Saturday night seafood buffets and holiday dining are popular events that sell out and require

the purchase of special food and beverage products, equipment, entertainment, etc. Last minute un-replaced cancellations

(including changes to the party number) are unfair to those Members who are turned away due to full capacity and cause the

Club to incur unnecessary expenses if the reservation is not replaced. As a result, the Club must exercise a firm enforcement of

the special event and holiday dining policy.

• At the time of making your reservation we will charge your account 100% of the event price.

• Please let us know if you have other Members dining with you, so we may contact them.

• You may cancel 7 days prior to event, without being charged.

• If you cancel less than 7 days prior to the event, you will have to pay 100% of the event price.

Note: Should there be a wait list and we are able to fill your reservation less than 6 days prior to the event, your account will be

credited in full.
