Glen R. Miller

Oct. 2, 2012

Growing up in Overtown Miami in a single parent household of eight children placed Glenn R. Miller at an unfair advantage as the only male. While money and a consistent male role model proved scarce, the encouragement and support of his very strict mother and seven sisters were instrumental in keeping him from the street life that many black men fall subject to. He joined Mt. Olivette Missionary Baptist Church in Overtown in his early teens through the friendship of a life long friend, Howard Wilson. Attorney Miller attended Booker T. Washington High, which made a great impact in his education for life. He was later transferred to Miami Edison Sr. High were he excelled in academics and athletics. Overcoming the odds, Mr. Miller graduated from Miami Edison in 1970 and was accepted to Florida State University on an academic scholarship.

While attending Florida State, Mr. Miller set the foundation for the rest of his life by accepting Christ through Campus Crusade ministries. Mr. Miller also became a charter member of the Iota Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha and is currently a life member of the fraternity. In 1974 Mr. Miller received his B.A. in Philosophy and then advanced to law school at Nova Southeastern after two years of graduate school and work. From law school Attorney Miller worked as a Dade County Public Defender. He later opened his own law firm in 1986. While pursuing his law practice, Miller remained active in his church as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Male Chorus and a Youth Director. Rev. Miller received his call to ministry in 1980. Shortly after his call to ministry he married Julit Newry. As he grew in his ministry and in his profession his family also began to grow.

He is currently the senior pastor of Bright Star Missionary Baptist Church of Miami, FL. In February of 2004 he was elected Moderator of the Atlantic Coast Baptist Association. He continues as the sole practitioner of Glenn R. Miller, P.A. that God often uses as an extension of his ministry. He has served in his community as a Cub Master for the Boy Scouts of America and as a member of the Advisory Council for the Elementary School, along with serving on various other boards and committees.

Today Rev. Miller is the proud parent of six children: Grace 28, Charity 27, Glenn Jr. 24, Hope 21, Joshua 19, and Faith 15. Instilling a love for the Lord and godly values into the lives of his children through precept and example has been and continues to be the greatest challenge as well the most rewarding privilege of his ministry.
