Examine bullying, bias and harassment through the lens of differences. Explore key strategies for addressing these complex issues at the personal, interpersonal, institutional and cultural levels. Learn about programs and resources that can be used in community settings, including an MSU Extension initiative titled Be SAFE: Safe, Affirming and Fair Environments. Michigan Livestock Expo July 13-17, 2013

The Michigan Livestock Expo is a multi-species livestock event including beef, sheep, swine, and goats, designed to enhance the livestock industry, educate youth and showcase Michigan's agriculture industry. The dairy industry will also be holding the Michigan Dairy Expo simultaneously at the MSU Pavilion.

Champions in each species will be sold at a special evening industry celebration. Pre-entry and tagging are required for this event. Be sure to note the registration deadlines and procedures for each species. The contact information for each species is also listed if you have any further questions. Animals tagged for the Livestock Expo may also be tagged for the county fair; however, if the animal isselected to be sold at the Livestock Expo it will be ineligible to sell at the county fair. 2013 Show Pig Lists Spring is on its way which means it is time for 4-H members to start heading out to the auctions to pick up their project animals for this year's fair. MSU's Department of Animal Science youth extension program annually compiles a list of auctions and farms offering animals for private treaty for youth planning to exhibit pigs at the fair. Members are more than welcome to source their animals from other entities; or even farrow or lamb their own project animals. Record Keeping Books As a 4-H member you may find it very beneficial to keep a personal record of your 4-H experiences. A 4-H record book can be useful to you for planning your 4-H career. It also allows you to document your development and accomplishments during your time in 4-H. Additionally, when shared with parents and leaders it can help them guide the you through decision making experiences. Record keeping ensures that you have accurate documentation of your experiences and the skills you have learned through 4-H. Completed records will allow you to easily recall information in the future when completing applications for jobs, scholarships, or awards. Record keeping also allows you to track how your interests, goals, and responsibilities have changed over your 4-H career. Ingham County 4-H Horse Camp June 17-20, 2013 Ingham County Fairgrounds Registration $75/rider (discount available for families) Deadline: May 31, 2013 Come to camp and bring your horse!! What better way to kick off your summer vacation than attending Ingham County 4-H's Paul Wolter Horse Camp. 4-H members will have the opportunity to brush up on skills that may have gotten rusty over the long winter as they prepare for the summer show season. 4-H leaders and volunteers will host a large array of clinics including demonstrations and information on

horse care, horse behavior, training techniques and various other horse related topics. Participants will also spend time honing their abilities in their riding discipline (disciplines offered are Hunt Seat, Western, Gymkhana and Dressage), while working with an instructor at their skill level. Classes will be offered for riders at all levels from walk-trot through advanced; there will even be one day of Cloverbud activities. The camp takes place at the Ingham County Fairgrounds and consists of two days of clinics and riding lessons. The final day is a practice horse show where participants apply what they have learned at camp. Participants must be current members of a recognized Michigan 4-H program, 9-19 years of age by January 1, 2013. Non 4-H members will be allowed to participate upon by paying an additional $10 participation fee. Participants provide their own horse, tack and supplies and are required to care for their own horse during the three day stay at camp. Horse must remain on the fair grounds for the entire duration of camp. Campers are allowed to camp on a first reserved, prepaid basis. Due to limited camping spots. Parents/guardians/leaders must be present at all times at night with campers in the camping area. This three day camp was dedicated to the memory of Paul Wolter for his outstanding service to the 4-H members of Ingham County. 16th Annual 4-H & Open Show Circuit Hosted by Ingham County 4-H Horse Clubs Season end high point prizes Show bills are now available for the 2013 Ingham County 4-H summer horse show circuit. Leader Show Sponsorships Just a reminder to all 4-H horse families that you are required to obtain at least $10 in sponsorships for the Leader Show. Horse Project May 1st Form The Horse Registration Form that is due annually on May 1st can be found at the link below. All horse exhibitors are required to complete and submit the form with their negative Coggins test and color photographs. Please note that the Coggins test that you submit with your registration form must be valid through August 31st. Registration forms should be submitted to your club leader in a timely manner to allow the club leader enough time to get forms turned in by May 1st. Club leaders may schedule a time to bring the forms to the office; the forms for the club may be scanned and emailed to the club leader when they are delivered (printed copy charge 2cents per printed page if you prefer a copy). Michigan Beef Expo

April 5-7, 2013 MSU Pavilion Youth involved in the 4-H Beef project may have interest in participating in youth educational activities at the Michigan Beef Expo April 5-7 at the MSU Pavilion.

Through the course of the weekend there will be shows, contests, and sales happening. A schedule for the event can be found at http://www.micattlemen.org/michiganbeefexpo.aspx. Individual breed organizations may be sponsoring shows and/or sales throughout the weekend; check with individual breed associations for details. 4-H members are specifically encouraged to participate in the educational contests taking place Saturday of the event. You do not need to exhibit an animal at the event to participate in the educational contests. On Saturday, April 6, the MI Cattlemen’s Association will be offering a youth beef judging contest as part of the MI Beef Expo. The event will be held at the MSU Pavilion and details about this contest as well as other youth contests are available on the Animal Science Youth Events page. This workshop offers a variety of training sessions including rifle, shotgun, archery and hunting and wildlife which are partial fulfillment of the requirements to be a MI 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor. Join us and see all that the 4-H shooting sports program has to offer! Learn how we foster positive youth development through the shooting sports, and try techniques that effectively help youth learn safe and proper use of guns and archery equipment. You do NOT need to retake the training unless you’ve been inactive for more than 3 years or your certification has lapsed. management topics including dairy cattle nutrition, health, reproduction and cattle evaluation. Practice for state dairy management contests such as the skillathon and quiz bowls that will focus on dairy cattle health. You’ll also tour area farms. Open to youth ages 13 and older.

Great Lakes and Natural Resources Camp Go charter fishing! Hike through forests! Wade through wetlands! Explore dunes! These are just a few of the many exciting activities that teens at 4-H Great Lakes and Natural Resources Camp can do. Great Lakes and Natural Resources camp is designed for Michigan teens who will enter grades 8—10 next fall, you may still apply). You’ll learn about natural resources and management issues, especially those related to the aquatic environment and the Great Lakes. A limited num-ber of camp counselors ages 16 and older will be selected by the camp director and assistant director to serve as camp counselors.

4-H Outdoor Adventure Challenge Is . . . . . Adults working with young people who are backpacking, hiking, camping, canoeing, rock climbing, snowshoeing, skiing, caving, and learning outdoor safety and survival skills! Applications are being accepted through May 1, 2013 for volunteers interested in completing 4-H Adventure Challenge volunteer certification training. A $100 entry fee covers Level 1 training. There is a $50 fee for each level 2 and level 3 training up to a maximum of $300 for each trainee. The training series will take place between May 2013 and February 2014. Enrollment Deadlines Approaching

The member enrollment period for Ingham County 4-H clubs will be ending on May 1, 2013 for new members; reenrollments for past members were due by December 31, 2012 for the current program year. The 4-H program year runs from September 1-August 31. Youth interested in joining a 4-H club may enroll by contacting a 4-H club leader and requesting enrollment information.
